Bait and switch
Bait and switch. Promised the world and agreed upon property care by the owner, Matt Umland, and delivered minimal and sloppy service. Matt made it sound like he has a full team, but It's just him and clear that Backyard Brothers Lawn Care is about quantity over quality.
When we first reached out, Matt responded quickly and met up the same day. Gave a good Midwestern charm, cockiness, and excitement for taking on the property. Communication after that was lack there of and very passive.
Pure volume play:
Matt shows up and is driving away in 20 mins or less. I've timed him multiple times. Essentially charging $195 per hour. And for that pricing, you'd expect your property to look pristine.
Sloppy service:
"We are dedicated to providing you with the best service." Is what their website claims, however, when Matt laid down fresh mulch, he didn't care to take the time to clear any displaced mulch on our grass, patio, and flower bed walls. Random piles just left there.
Lawn maintenance:
Includes blowing as mentioned on their site. What he doesn't tell you is he'll blow leaves and debris off your walkway, driveway, and patio only. And... blow them onto the lawn he just mowed and leaves it there.
Unprofessionalism:
Was told on his first day of service that his ride along mower wouldn't fit through our gate to the backyard and Matt suggested if we got a push mower, he'd gladly push mow the backyard. So we invested in one of his "commitments" to his offered services. Mind you, he told us after he had walked around the house a few times during our initial meeting. A true pro would notice this and say something the same day. Not find out on his first day of service with our property.
We inquired with Matt about the services and asked for a better understanding of what to expect. A week later before he's on the way to our house, he replies vaguely and open ended. You'd think he'd knock on the door and speak with us to get everyone on the same page, but nope, he just did his super fast routine and sped away to his next client.
We, at the time, liked the guy and wanted to keep his services, so we mentioned that to him and politely inquired again letting him know what we're truly looking for and if he could provide us a quote. We understood there could've been miscommunication from the start and we wanted to manage our expectations.
We heard nothing...
Again, the night before he was supposed to service our property, he texted us a long winded and passive avoidant reply. He had the audacity to say "I'm also no longer able to accommodate properties that require push mowing." So he suggested if we purchase one, he'd have no problem mowing the back with a push mower. More checks his mouth writes that he can't cash.
Results:
Check other low rated reviews of this company as they are exactly the experience we had. Overpriced services for shotty quality and professionalism. Don't believe his hype and misleading services portrayed on the website.
