Do not trust Backblaze with your data

Do not trust Backblaze with your data. Maybe you'll be like me and pay for their services for 6 years, finally need it when my laptop was stolen, and then have my data deleted after 30 days because said laptop was no longer in my possession.

And the Data Restore experience is terrible - incredibly slow download times and multiple crashes. This business model is like paying insurance premiums every month and then not actually having coverage when you need it.

But hey, at least they gave me a protracted refund on my year subscription after I gave them money for 6 years for absolutely nothing. Thanks guys!

My drive failed, all my data is gone from Backblaze

I have been using Backblaze for more than a year now, i had many problems with backups before, but at the end they always worked out, until yesterday when my drive failed and attempted to download my files, when i logged in all drives were gone altogether, no way to restore, i always made sure i don't cross the 30 day limit (but support is saying i crossed it, even though i didn't get warning emails), yet now i am supposed to upload the still working external hard drive with a 100Kb/s connection while in lockdown while the data from my other drive is presumably forever gone and was paying for nothing. While it may seem like a good deal to have your whole computer backed up for just $6, it is not worth it if the backups just randomly disappear at the worst time.

Backups - straightforward and fairly reliable; customer service - terrible.

Backups - straightforward and fairly reliable; customer service - terrible. Same as what lots of other reviews have said. The customer service team must be working in a terrible environment, because they just never seem to have time to pay attention to what you're saying to answer your questions. Typical interaction goes something like: "I have these 3 questions can you help", response: "The answer is no" (to which of the three questions? Why is it 'no'? What can I do instead?)

I use B2 to make backups of my QNAP NAS using HBS3. Works great without breaking the bank.

Ran into an issue due to a configuration error on my part and customer service exceeded my expectations. Recommended!

They do not offer automatic billing receipts over mail. Considering that businesses needs these in order to manage the book-keeping it's not really business friendly.

Otherwise full score from me.

Their customer service is filled by…

Their customer service is filled by millennials, so basically nothing is ever Backblaze's fault.

I tried the service two times, in 2018 and today to see if they improve at all. The first time I discovered that they throttle upload speed. They refuse to admit it, but with 900 mb/s speed on my desktop, Backblaze UL speed never went over 2.5 mb/s.

They refused to acknowledge the many time their software git stuck on tiny finals uploads for hours. Their answer to their many problem was to cancel my service and refund me. That hardly compensated me for dying of old age because of the time it took to finish backing up my files. It was easier to refund be than do minimal work to fix their servers

I decided to give them another chance to see if anything changed.

Once again, their software got stuck on a 2.5 mb photo. Upon going into a support chat, their manager came on line and told me that they agreed to refund me and banned me from using the service again because I complained too much about upload speed.

The reason why Backblaze is such a pathetically run company is that a MANAGER is to dense to figure out how a person would miss out on anything if they did use a company that is utter crap.

STAY AWAY FROM BACKBLAZE EVEN IF THEY BECOME THE LAST BACKUP COMPANY ON THE PLANET

Run--don't walk--away from Backblaze

Run, don't walk, away from Backblaze. So called computer expert gave Backblaze glowing reviews. I will never know why. My computer crashed and it took days to retrieve everything from the Backblaze cloud. Their tech department is nonexistent. After my crash Backblaze decide to close my current and paid for account and bill me for a new account even though I had several months left on the old account. I ran back to Carbonite the second I could. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Hoax Backup Software (Worst ever)

I've used them initially to backup my storage drive and external drives. As soon as I unplug the external drives, the cloud backup delete them automatically. Its a moronic backup software. Who would delete the files after the drive is unplugged? What is the purpose of getting such backup software if it couldn't do simple things as backing up the files properly and waiting user confirmation before deleting files. Its the worse software ever created. I would give negative 10 stars if that's an option.

Terrible. I signed up as a reseller and they’ve done everything in their power to avoid paying me. Delay tactics, additional paperwork, passing me round departments. I am appalled at their behaviours.

I read several outstanding reviews for Backblaze in 2019 by professionals in the computer field. HOW WRONG THEY WERE!!! My hard drive crashed and it has been a complete nightmare for my tech to manually retrieve all the information from Backblaze. I have very little data on my computer when compared to other users so it should have been a very simple process as it had been in the past with Carbonite. RUN DON'T WALK IF YOU EVER CONSIDER BACKBLAZE AS A CLOUD BACKUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BackBlaze is not a good service

Extremely unhappy with BackBlaze.

Have no access to an old phone number attached to my BackBlaze account. Had to do a fresh install of Windows due to a crash. Boom, no way of accessing my account. Might have been my fault, but support are incredibly stubborn and unwilling to even entertain me suggesting there are other ways to prove my identity. Just so black and white. Really blunt and unhelpful. And at the end of the support email, info about cancelling my account. Cancelling means the backup is immediately deleted.

20 years of data lost.

And when you do need to access and download your backup, forget about it. Painfully slow and not worth the while. Forget about these guys, buy yourselves a NAS drive instead.

My EHD crashed and burned and I had to…

My EHD crashed and burned and I had to rely on my BackBlaze back up to recover years and years of photos, videos and photoshop work. The process to download it all was tedious because I had to break up chunks due to large file sizes. Now that I'm several weeks past the final back up, I'm realizing that I'm missing tons of individual files (mostly seems to be photos) and I'm devastated that I don't have them. The backup through BackBlaze was supposed to ensure I had them.

I've had BB for a few years now

I've had BB for a few years now. I only recently have had an issue. My iMac hd crashed after 10 years! I have a new one now and need my info off the old backed up HD. I did the inherit thing they suggested and it is taking forever.
I thought I would just be adding anything new to the old back up in the cloud, but, it has been backing up my new hd for over a week. It only hasGB of data on the new HD! What is going on!? I have gone over my data usage and it still isn't done! I can't talk to anyone because they don't offer "talk to a human" customer service. I am not happy about this. Now I have to pay data usage overage to my cable company. They need a customer service team to help with questions and problems. All that being said, I need to talk to someone from BB that is the reason I didn't give them 5 stars.
I read the customers complaint about 200 dollars for them to send a hd with your data on it. What the reviewer failed to mention is that they refund you the 200 dollars back when you send back the HD within a month if I remember correctly. I know this because I had to have them send me the HD to back up a failed external drive with client photos on them. It was almost 2 TB of files.
I am thrilled that they back up external HD's, other cloud storage programs either charge or just don't offer it. I will stick with BB but they again really do need to have a human customer service center!!

Simply not fit for purpose

Simply not fit for purpose. Unreliable and inconsistent, constantly dropping the connection and not reliably backing up files. Has taken up a huge amount of my time attempting to resolve all the various issues, and help/support was poor. Online backup needs to be fit and forget, otherwise what's the point? Honestly, this software fails on pretty much every count. I've wasted my money as they lock you in for 1-2 years and won't refund unless you cancel within the first 30 days. Avoid.

Can't trust backblaze

I have been using backblaze for 6 months but can no longer trust it. First there was an inconsistency in November, resulting in a system freeze that I spent about an hour sorting out.

Now, worse, I have an email saying 'missing computer - 14 days' which should happen if you are disconnected from the internet for a period. However, I have NOT been disconnected from the internet and Backblaze on my Mac says I am completely up to date!

I have gone online to check and sure enough, recent files are missing.

Firstly, 14 days is far too long for a first alert. Secondly, why is the backblaze app saying I'm up to date when I'm not?

This is all about one thing - trusting a back up system and I don't have that trust after this.

They didn't held what they promised

They breached what they promised - I was on a long vacation so after my debit card was not fully charged they deleted my whole data. (They only tried charged my card once)
I was only informed twice 5 and 1 day in advance.

I asked for a full refund, I will post updates here.

On their info-site "articles/219361957-B2-Non-payment-procedures"
here they state they would inform me every 5 days!
NEVER AGAIN!

Also, their client sucks hard! You have to wait hours in order for the update process to start. They claim it's because of they want to keep it "light weight" but its more about the bandwidth I suppose.

Very happy so far

Very happy so far.
I had them for about 3 years.
I never had to restore anything yet. But the software and the tech support are very good.
I just reformatted the computer and their response was less than 24hs.
The value too.
Pretty impressed actually.

Immediate deletion of data after renewal doesn't go through

After 1 year subscription there was an issue running the payment (because yeah new cards get issued all of the time). They literally sent me one email to remind me, then the second email threatened to delete my data. This is ridiculous, in the past I've lost ALL of my data before due to this ridiculous fast escalation tactic. Of course if you try to get in touch with the company about it you just get robo-email. Add to this the fact that it may literally take an entire week just to backup your computer, this company isn't worth the time. Do yourself a favor and keep walking.

Very poor interface, worse support

No phone support at all not even in the case of trying to do disaster recovery. Interface and processes are *not* intuitive, making the lack of support even more onerous. - process of trying to recover files is a time-consuming nightmare, requiring DAYS - yup, that's right, DAYS.

They lost my data

They lost my data. There was a billing issue with the credit card on file and I did not receive any email warning that the account was in jeopardy. I am fairly certain it wasn't a spam filter issue because I had gotten account related and payment emails from them for previous credit card failures due to re-issued credit cards.

The big issue is that they don't archive your data and there is no way to recover it once your account and it's data has been deleted. So whether there's a user or company error, once they have deleted your data, its gone and there's no recourse. That is an issue for a service where you are relying on them to back-up your data and you may not be closely monitoring the account because you really only need it in time of crisis.
