Great Bike purchase and customer service

I ordered a bike for my son through AW Cycles and from start to finish the service I recieved was first class, when I went in to collect my sons bike I also ended up purchasing a bike for myself ( badly let down by Tredz ) and the service given helping e choose a bike was first class by Lewis who served us, when I went in to choose and order my sons bike I also had great service from a chap in a blue AW Cycles top, he also was a pleasure to deal with.

The team in store also checked that a bike rack was fitted coorectly which I hadnt purchased from AW Cycles which they didnt have to do and was an added bit of first class service.

I cannot recommend this company highly enough and the staff in store are great and acredit to the company, no pushy sales just honest advise.

Excellent and quick service

Excellent and quick service, super friendly and amazing at their job. I had really good experience thru a work benefit scheme and met the guys at my workplace. I was assisted with my bike off and back on my car rack, which I won't be able to do so easily on my own! The experience was great from start to finish. Thank you!

They clearly know there sh1t

So like a muppet I put my peddals on back to front and stripped the thread. I was gonna order a kit from amazon but i was told use these guys as they are really good and dont overcharge.
I took my Cube in at about 10.30am and said I ideally need it for Monday.
Its now 9pm the same day and I had a text saying it was all done and for less than £30.....great value.
So that alone gets 5 stars but there's more.
When i was in the shop I asked about a gear issue im having. Now at this point he could of made an easy buck and said he will have a look but instead he advised me how to use hub gears correctly as I was using them wrong.
Now that is honesty.
And honesty earns respect in my view.
These guys are brilliant. Well done A***

Stuck pedal

After a week of trying to remove a stuck pedal and a trip to another bike shop who said they'd have to drill it out, I tried one last attempt with AW cycles as a friend highly recommended them... They I instantly freed up the pedal to my relief with no damage.. and very little damage to my wallet either! Thank you so much! I shall be turning to you guys always from now on

Perfect Service

I have bought 6 bikes from AW cycles over the years and could not have been more imporessed, in the shop I have dealt with Dave who always gives great advice and finds me the right bike even if it was cheaper than the one I was looking at, so I have never felt Ripped off. In the Workshop Lewis gives absolutely brilliant service and looks after my bike wonderfully. Everyone I have recommended has the same opinion, don't go antwhere else!

Above and beyond

I bought a Ridgeback bike from AW Cycles back in 2006. Ridgeback offer a lifetime frame warranty but I no longer had the receipt. When the frame recently cracked as a long shot I contacted AW cycles to see if it was possible to get a warranty replacement after 16 years. They still had a record of the sale (I didn't have the receipt). They contacted the manufacturer and arranged for a replacement bike. When the manufacturer sent the wrong size they were able to sort it out. They built the bike and even offered to service it in a few weeks, all at no charge. They really went above and beyond for a bike I bought from them so long ago.

Brilliant service

We visited the shop today having a problem with our sons crank arm. The guy couldn’t have been more helpful, realising it might be able to be fixed without selling us something we didn’t need. He promptly did so. They could see us the same day and fixed the problem there and then. Old school good service is rare these days, we won’t be taking our bikes anywhere else from now on. Dangerous in itself as the shop was filled with amazing bikes :)

I have to write a review for these…

I have to write a review for these guys, I have been in there several times, often just to ask questions and they have gone out of their way to be helpful every time.
Great level of knowledge and the workshop guys are very helpful.

Thanks AW Cycles.

Another great experience

Another great experience with AW Cycles. My rear brake had stopped working, it turned out something had just got dislodged and it was a really minor repair, so the guy fixed it then and there for free.

Worst Local Bike Shop I've had the misfortune to encounter.

I took my a Giant Power Pro in for warranty service. I was told that it needed to be on a bike for testing, so I went back with my son's bike frame.

A day later, I got the call that the bike was ready, and the power meter was working fine, and for a very reasonable price, I was delighted.

Picked up the bike, and son went off on a ride. An hour later he called me to rescue him. His cranks had fallen off'. I called the bike shop on the way, and the mechanic was mortified, he said 'Did they not tell you on handover' - he had put the cranks on, but not torqued them because there was a bolt missing.

Oh- and the Power meter was still totally useless, reading alternatively zero, or 2000 watts.

I went back to the shop, and had a 'discussion' with the owner, who refused to issue a refund for the work, which had left my son stranded in pouring rain, in the middle of a training ride. He refused to listen to me, refused to accept responsibility, and tried to tell me it was my fault for not checking their work! He was aggressive, patronising and insulting.

As I got back home, I received a phone call from the shop manager, very apologetic, who said that the owner had not been in possession of all the facts (because he was too busy insulting and patronising me to listen). He offered a free bike service by way of apology, and a full refund.

I accepted the offer of a service, since my son was due to race, and we urgently wanted the bike checked over before the race. At some considerable inconvenience, I rushed the bike to them, so they would be able to get it turned around in time for the race. I had been told the service would be same day, unless they needed to keep it overnight to charge the Di2 Battery which they promised to fit for me.

I was disappointed not to get a call back on the day, but called first thing the next day to arrange collection in time for the race. They told me that they had been busy, so had not even started on my bike.

I am astounded. This was supposed to be a gesture of apology for appalling service which left my son stranded, but turned into another fiasco.

Their further response? A curt e-mail to say that they do not feel that they will be able to meet my standards of service in the future.

Well too right. I'm afraid I expect service to involve honesty, doing the job you're paid for, returning bikes in a safe roadworthy state, and being pleasant polite and respectful to customers. These are clearly not standards which AW Cycles can comply with.

Edited to respond to their reply:
Just to correct what AW Cycles are saying.

1. I allowed them to look at a bike which had suffered sudden catastrophic failure of the steerer tube, resulting in a crash, which could have killed my son. When they said they could just chuck another fork on it, I decided to take it to a professional bike shop, especially when they mentioned that they had already got into trouble for insurance fraud, and had a very uncomfortable experience when the insurance company sent an investigator to look at a bike, when they had fraudulently written off a frame.

2. I did give them a chance to make amends for their appalling service and putting my son at risk, by servicing my son's other bike, because of the urgency of suddenly depending on one bike. I made clear that he was racing in 48 hours, and had training to do in the meantime. I was assured it would be looked at immediately, so went and collected it (at some inconvenience) immediately.
3. I heard nothing that day, and when I called the following day, I was told that they had not even looked at it, so arranged for collection.
4. When I e-mailed to express (mildly and politely), disappointment, I was told that they would no longer deal with me, because they could not meet my expectations.

As you can see from their reply, rather than accepting responsibility for their actions or failures, they are trying to slander and defame me, or bully me into removing my feedback review. They previously made any offer of recompense conditional upon my removing my review.

If you don't see many negative reviews of AW it is because they bully and insult anybody who dares leave honest feedback. I will not tolerate this, so have commenced legal action.

Reply from AW Cycles

Sometimes you wish you could leave negative reviews of customers.
David clearly has unreasonable expectations of customer service as you can see from his host of other 1 star reviews on Google for businesses that don’t deserve them.
We were asked to work on a Giant power meter that wasn’t working but that the customer couldn’t provide Proof or Purchase for. After an hour of work updating the firmware, resetting the crank, charging it and then testing it we had it reading power. The crank was loosely fitted to the bike so we could test it but not secured fully as the customer hadn’t brought in all the parts required to refit it correctly.
Yes, we made a mistake and didn’t verbally inform his son we hadn’t made his bike safe to ride but the paperwork handed over on pickup confirmed this along with the customer knowing we didn’t have all the parts. We have apologised for this and offered a refund on the work as David says.
To help make amends when his sons other bike suffered a snapped fork, we offered to get it back on the road FoC by way of a fitting some second hand carbon forks and free service. Instead, David tried to pressure me into writing the bike off so he could claim through his insurance. When he realised I wasn’t willing to commit insurance fraud we instead agreed a free service on his Son’s race bike by way of an apology.
The plan was to look at this Friday and have it back readied for collection at some point on Saturday. At 8:58 Saturday morning David called to see if the bike was ready and then went off the rails when it wasn’t. We then lost our chance to make amends as he was rude to yet another member of staff.
In over 20 years working in the Cycle trade I have never before had to ask a customer not to return to store until now.
