Design process easy, arrived early and patches look great. Deliver what they promise.
I've re-ordered some pins from Aspinline that I've made last year. I was very happy with the quality back then and I really liked their customer service so I've decided to re-order them here. I live in Austria and this time the delivery service (I've asked for it to be changed to Royal Mail instead of DHL because of the lower costs) made the fatal mistake to ship my pins to Australia which caused a huge delay. They haven't arrived yet and it might be that they never will.
Now, why the five star rating? Because Aspinline kept asking me if the pins have arrived yet and finally they offered me to remake the pins without any additional costs on my end. I didn't have to make a claim, it was their idea to compensate for a mistake another company (Royal Mail) did without having me to ask for it. And I think it's incredible, because it shows how much they value their business partners, even small ones like me. They've earned a customer for life with this. Highly recommended!
I'd wanted one of my designs turned into an enamel pin for a while, so I tried this company. They were quick to respond, proofed my artwork and made necessary adjustments, all very easy. My pins arrived two weeks before the estimated date and they turned out great! My design was very simple, I'm very pleased and will probably use again for future pin projects.
The patches came out way better than expected, really pleased. Kept up to date throughout. Would use again, thank you.
I ordered 100 enamel pins from AspinLine. It was a bit more than I had actually aimed to go for, but I was keen on backing cards to go with them and the minimum order quantity for those is 100. They were reasonably priced, reviews were good, and I was impressed by a samples pack.
I ordered in mid-December and the estimated delivery date was late January but everything actually arrived mid-January. Unfortunately, nothing was of the quality I expected.
The backing cards looked like they'd been printed on a home inkjet. They were dull, coarse, mostly mis-cut and not even the right dimensions with my design warped oddly to fit. Completely different to the sample.
The pins were no better. I'd expected a defect rate of 10-15%, maybe 20%. It was over 80%. Most of the pins had chips, scratches and other marks to the plating (a pantone-matched colour coating, one of the reasons I'd gone with AspinLine as no-one else I could see in the UK offers it and it was integral to my design idea). It was pretty crushing really, to have gone out on a new creative venture and have it all come back feeling like a complete waste.
AspinLine were quick to respond to my email and keen to help. The poor cards were explained as being printed in the UK rather than China as per the sample. I'm not quite sure how that's an explanation, but they refunded me for them and pointed out that they're standard business card size and so could be sourced easily enough elsewhere. Wish I'd known that going in as I'd have gone for a smaller order of pins.
They apologised for the pins and said it's an issue with the pantone-matched coating being "very susceptible to issues". I'm not quite sure how true this is, given that black paint coating (as opposed to black nickel plating) is fairly common and presumably uses the same compounds. They gave me three options: a full refund if I returned all the pins; a 50% refund and I keep all the pins (not a good option given less than 50% of the pins were usable); or a 15% refund and they make them again, taking more care with the plating.
I decided to go for the latter. The second run was initially estimated for late February, but arrived at the end of January. Impressively fast. But this batch turned out to be even worse.
Care seemingly had been taken; all the pins were in individual bubble-wrap pouches rather than plastic baggies, to prevent scratches. But this was moot as the quality of the pins was terrible. The colour plating was dreadful; Largely free from chips only because it would be impossible to chip a coating this thin. Even on the best pins, the rough texture of the base metal was visible through the coating on the face of the pin. There was only about 12 that fell in that category though, the rest were so badly coated the bare metal was visible through the plating. Given this metal is brass or copper the result was pins that looked rusty and corroded. Certainly not a saleable fashion accessory.
I contacted AspinLine again, pointed out the problems and just asked for a refund, which, to be fair, they were quick to do without hassle. They again blamed the pantone-matched plating, calling it a "problematic process" and saying that it had previously only been available on special request and not advertised. Which isn't really an excuse, is it? It's openly advertised and available to order now. I had specifically asked about it when ordering my sample pack and they made no mention of it having issues. They were quite content to take my order for it, again without any warning of it producing inconsistent results. If this was a known issue with the process, surely someone should have looked over the results to check for said issues at some point during production, if not on the first run then certainly on the second. They had said they would "take extra care with the finish" on the replacement batch and yet they didn't really do that because if anyone had actually looked at the pins, they would have quite quickly seen the problems.
The only positive here really is that I was able to get a refund quickly and without any hassle. The team are pleasant enough to deal with, but the products aren't up to snuff. This experience has proved to be a waste of time and energy and over all quite depressing. And now I have about 200 unusable pins to work out what to do with.
edit: I'm sorry you don't like my review. I don't believe any of it to be defamatory. I can't review what you've provided Nike or Levi's, only what you've provided me, which was, as you admit, two failed batches of pins and poor quality backing cards, the latter of which in no way matched the samples. I'd love to tell people of your "great success" with dyed metal plating, but I've only had the "problematical".
