Had Argos card for years and loved it

Had Argos card for years and loved it. Now changed providers and it is a total shambles. You have little or no control which plan your payments get assigned too. Tried to pay it off with credit card but won’t allow that so took out a small loan to get rid of it. No more Argos for me another loyal customer theve lost

Zero benefit for the customer

I rang to pay off a bnpl balance. The woman assured me it would clear that balance and not be taken off the main balance. After payment of £269 went through she said it had not been taken of my bnpl balance after all but just off the main balance!!
The argos pay app is an absolute joke! You can't choose to take amounts of different plans so they take money off where they choose!
I will never use the argos bnpl card again as the customer is not in control of their payments!
I also received a message to say they were watching my account as I have only been paying the minimum amount which is absolute rubbish! I pay triple the minimum amount every month!
I have used the argos buy now pay later for years but never again and I advise others strongly to stay clear!
You will end up confused, have trouble understanding exactly what you owe and it will cost you in terms of affecting your credit rating

Nightmare company

What went wrong? What went right!?
I got rid of Argos Card some years ago after an attempted fraudulent use on it. A couple of years down the line I then found they had added an Argos Pay card to my credit file. They had no right to do this. I have written to them on two occasions 18th May 2026 and 19th June 2026 in an attempt to get them to remove it. They have totally ignored me. Absolutely no help or support from them and no reason given as to why they had done this. Luckily I had support from Equifax and Clearscore and have been assured that this will be monitored on my behalf. Argos are the only ones who can remove this apparently. Why don't they do it? Why don't they interact and support customers?
Useless company! Yes I still buy items from Argos but not with any card of theirs. My advice to anyone is don't go near an Argos Card in any shape or form because if there are any issues like I've got and had in the past, they will do nothing to help you!

Paid off argos account in full & still being charged.

Paid off argos account in full. Keep getting monthly payments still. Cant get in touch with any human at customer services to stop it. Just keep going round in circles with their automated robot on the phone lines. Will never take credit with them again. Awful service that penalises those that refuse to build up interest and debt.

Terrible, absolutely terrible.

Useless, absolutely useless. Its extremely difficult to make a payment . the app crashes, doesn't interact with my banking app. Last month I received a late payment charge, the 1st time in many many years, but it was not for the want of trying, I simply couldn't make a payment
Thankfully this months payment isn't due for another 7 days, as it will probably take that long to get a payment through. It's as if they don't wish you to pay.
Had the old style Argos card for many years and no issues whatsoever, but now... Will probably settle the account next month, cancel my account and never buy anything from Argos ever again.

Unusable

Unusable! It asks me to open my.banking app to make the payment, so I do this, then, nothing. Nothing happens, no way to approve the payment. Argos Pay Times out and says the payment has been canceled and asks me to go back for alternative ways to pay so I go back, but it doesn't give me any alternative ways to pay, so I go round and round and round in circles, till eventually I get an option to pay with my bank card, but how did I get to this option? I have no idea, so next month we go round and round again. I won't be buying anything on credit with Argos again. The old app was perfect I could make a payment within seconds. This new one is useless, sort it out!!

App Failures, Misallocated Payments and appalling treatment of vunerable customers

DO NOT trust the digital Argos Pay system. Since the transition by NewDay the system has been plaqued with severe glitches, app login errors, and broken automated phone lines.

The biggest danger for customers is payment allocation. Even when staff explicitly promise that your payment will go toward an existing Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) plan, the system misallocates the money to plans months/years into the future, manafacturing unfair interest rates and defaults.

Worse still, their customer service shows a complete disregard for the FCA consumer duty rules. As a declared medically vunerable customer, I was given misleading financial advise then completley hung up on by an agent while in distress.

WARNING TO ALL CUSTOMERS If Argos Pay or NewDay rejects your complaints or blames your bank for errors, do not give up!

If you have had a final response/rejection letter or have waited over 8 weeks for a response to a complaint, Bypass their customer service entirely. Take your case timelines and any call recordings ( it is important to record these calls to customer service agents ) straight to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). The Ombudsman can force them to wipe out unfair interest, clean your credit file, and pay compensation.

Many cases are already finding there way to the Ombudsman for investigation. The FCA are also aware of the multitude of complaints from customers. Argos Pay NewDay credit is setting people up with charges, and interest by mis allocating your money, causing foreseeable harm.
Reporting them to higher authoritys for investigation is the only way to get this problem sorted for everyones financial safety.

Awful payment gateway

Awful payment gateway. I was unable to register my account for 2 months due to not recieving an access code in the mail. Numerious attemts to resolve via vhat bot and sitting in telepho e queue. Ebded up with Argos saying I was 2 payments behind and added negative info on my credit file. Took half a day to finally get access to the portal. Complained to Argos and asked for negative info to be removed as it was there fault they refused. Today I got an email sayi g I was in default even though my account was upto date over a week ago. Terrible service never had this issue with old system. There glitchy useless app and poor customer service has left my credit score in tatters.. thanks Argos I never asked for your new rubbish app.

Absolutely terrible

Absolutely terrible, I am trying to pay my bill, can’t access my account as it won’t let me put my password in and has now blocked me. I have used Argos for years and always paid on time, last month I was charged £12 for late payment as I couldn’t get on the system. Absolutely shambolic, what have Argos done. I think when I’ve paid my bill, if I can get it to work that will be it for me. Such a shame I think they will end up losing a lot of customers.

I paid the amount they requested way…

I paid the amount they requested way before the deadline
Then the day after I paid another amount
Way more than what was needed just so I would be in credit etc
They then asked for £1.68 interest payment I paid £10.00 instead of the £1.68
They then blocked my account from me spending until the balance was cleared
The amount they asked for was £1.68
So I paid just the £1.68
Then few days later they are now asking me for 0.03 pence
And they also threatened me that they would inform third-party like credit history if I didn’t pay it I’m not happy
I spoke to on live chat and they were not bothered in one bit and also couldn’t give me a straight answer they couldn’t see what the fuss was about. I said I didn’t want it to go onto my credit history as a non-payment when I paid it.
I’m going to be paying up and leaving this
Not very well run company
It was all good until Argos pay took over

the final time i use argos

I will NEVER be using my argos card ever again. They have completely ruined a good service. I never had a problem, paid on time always, got all the emails about the company moving over, i was having problems so i emailed and emailed no response, by the time i got a letter in the post i was unable to log in to either applications and finally got in to see id been charged multiple late fees! unbelievable and the fact i still haven't received a single email back says it all. aside from that ive had multiple problems with different orders, claiming they are in stock right now and once the order was placed “available to collect next friday” (and then obviously you cant get the money back for 3 years and until you give them your firstborn child) thanks argos!

Worst company I have ever dealt with.

I returned an item to Argos that I had bought on credit, and for whatever reason £9.99 was left remaining on a payment plan of 9 months. Contacted Argos and they told me to contact Argos Pay, and Argos Pay said it was an Argos problem. Long story short, the next payment made was used to clear that £9.99 balance on an item I returned. Also noticed Argos Pay had removed the end date of payment plans from the app so it was very easy to miss final payment dates. Account closed, card cut up despite the account being held for 20 years. Done with both companies - thankfully.
