had a meeting with them with very specific questions and i DID NOT GET ANYTHING OUT OF IT. like 0, the only comment from the "consultant" was its: "had to say yes or no". once again useless bureaucracy, i am starting to get a feeling that its a scam company.

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the registration process and communication from Akademikernes A-kasse (AKA.dk). In practice, AKA.dk appears to operate in a way that profits from individuals seeking job security without ensuring access to the promised benefits.
On August 15, 2025, I registered with AKA.dk. According to the letter “Welcome to Akademikernes A-kasse”, non-Danish citizens must hold a valid residence and work permit allowing full-time work (37 hours per week), which I currently possess, in order to qualify for unemployment benefits. It was also stated that benefits cannot be granted if the residence permit is conditional upon not receiving public benefits, including unemployment benefits—something that does not apply in my case.
However:
• At no point during registration was support provided to help non-European workers verify whether their permit meets all requirements.
• The organization’s statutes were not made available, nor was it clearly communicated that there is a notice period for cancellation (“notice period”), which consists of the current month plus one additional month, regardless of the member’s situation.
Additionally, on September 29, 2025, I submitted an inquiry to AKA.dk regarding my eligibility for unemployment benefits after learning that some non-European citizens had their claims denied. I received no response. Due to the lack of feedback, on October 3, 2025, I decided to cancel my membership.
It makes no sense to bear the cost of membership without having effective access to the benefits.
I request clarification on the following points:
• The lack of support for verifying the type of residence/work permit;
• The lack of transparency regarding cancellation rules and the organization’s statutes at the time of registration;
• The justification for charging fees without guaranteeing access to benefits;
• The absence of a response to my inquiry regarding eligibility.
I look forward to your response and appropriate action.

Process sucks. Website sucks and was broken half the time. Discriminatory against students that are non Danish speaking (you can get benefits when you graduate IF you learnt Danish or have worked during studies, but it's a relatively new rule).
Also if you were a "free" member and graduate, they will send you an invoice the month after you graduate, which has a notice period of 1 month. So no matter what you are forced to pay 3 months of membership even when unemployed and not getting benefits. Yeah technically as a member you should know this, but they make no effort in letting you know what's going to happen. As a company they want your money, not to give you money.
ALSO also, when you submit the form to cancel the membership, unlike ALL other forms, it does not show up in the "submitted forms" section on your "Mit Aka" so it seems like another thing designed to screw with you or webdev incompetence.
Only saving grace is that the staff seem to actually care, and they were nice to talk to, and put in effort trying to help you out.

The whole meeting was driven with the purpose of "what we can find the best plan for you". I left with a clarity that I didn't expect would be possible. I highly recommend AKA.

After several years as a member, I developed significant anxiety related to communications from this company. When calculation errors occurred on their end, I was required to repay the difference after they adjusted their figures. Conversely, if I submitted incorrect information-sometimes based on their own inaccurate guidance-the response was aggressive and threatening, implying potential loss of benefits if I did not comply promptly. This approach was distressing.
A recent issue involved an incorrect calculation of holiday pay by my previous employer, which I reported to the company. Their response was that they could not intervene because they are not a union, despite previously marketing themselves as "like a union." This contradiction was disappointing. Due to the miscalculation, I received less pay during a holiday month. After correcting my hours a year later, I applied for reimbursement of the difference. Despite submitting all requested documentation and multiple follow-ups, the company ultimately rejected my claim, requesting documents I had already provided. Furthermore, there has been no response for over a month, possibly related to my decision to leave Denmark-a decision influenced in part by their inadequate service, where instead of solutions they were creating problems for their member.
The company’s website redesign has also been problematic, with persistent technical issues and insufficient information. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this company for anyone seeking reliable and professional service.

I was previously a member of the Swedish Akademikernas A-kassa. After getting a job in Denmark, I switched to AKA.dk and paid 499 DKK/month for over two years.
When I was about to become unemployed, I contacted AKA.dk multiple times to ask how I could receive my benefits while living in Sweden and working in Denmark. Each agent gave different answers or had no information. After two months of trying, I contacted the Swedish Akademikernas A-kassa, following advice from the Swedish unemployment agency. They informed me that since I live in Sweden, I must claim benefits there—but I would need a PDU1 certificate from AKA.dk. They even offered to request it on my behalf. Despite this, AKA.dk didn’t respond for over two months, leaving me without any unemployment benefits when I needed them most.
Out of frustration, I joined DetFagligeHus.dk and cancelled my AKA.dk membership. Within a week, I received the PDU1 certificate and my unemployment benefits were paid retroactively.
My experience with AKA.dk was terrible. Their customer service is nearly impossible to reach, and the agents are often untrained or uninformed. If you're thinking about joining AKA.dk, try contacting their support first—you may want to reconsider.
