Just don’t. Dreadful system. Constantly activates even when they ‘fix’ the system.
While the ADT security cameras themselves perform well, my experience with the company’s service has been profoundly disappointing. The staff has been consistently incompetent and unreliable, and there seems to be a significant communication barrier. Despite numerous assurances from the credit control team regarding a refund for my account credit, no one has followed through as promised. The customer service is virtually non-existent, leaving me frustrated and dissatisfied. If you value efficient and responsive support, ADT’s service leaves much to be desired.
STAY AWAY FROM ADT NZ!
When I built my house, I thought I was choosing a reliable company to install my alarm system and CCTV by going with ADT Security in New Zealand. What a mistake! The sales representative was clueless and clearly lacked proper training.
**CCTV:**
I asked for outdoor cameras, but the ones they installed couldn't handle the weather or salty air. They had to be replaced! The technician didn't bother to explain how to use the system, which was a nightmare to operate. Reviewing recordings was a chore, and even live images were a hassle. Nobody at ADT seemed to know how to use the system they installed. When the CCTV server died, they expected me to pay hundreds of dollars for a new one plus ridiculous installation costs. I fixed it myself with a computer and an app, and now it works better than ADT's mess.
**Alarm:**
Their so-called "installation" came with minimal explanations on arming and disarming the system. When an error appeared asking to replace sensor batteries, I assumed it was just the door sensors. But no, it was a motion sensor too—one I didn't even know had a battery! When I couldn't fix the error by changing the door sensor batteries, I called a technician. Turns out it was the motion sensor battery all along. ADT billed me $198 for something I could have done myself if they had just explained it over the phone.
Communicating with ADT is a joke. They ignored my emails and calls, leaving me with voicemail and text messages demanding payment. They have no interest in resolving issues or helping their customers. Their behavior is shocking and disgraceful.
Do NOT use ADT. They don't care about their customers because they rely on their advertising to bring in more victims. Find another company if you value your sanity and wallet!
Been a client for 20 yrs
They are worst company ever
I believe this is a scam
Actually zero rating not 1
They never return your calls
Lie about needing new system
Send account even when it’s not being minitired
ADT is continually harassing us for payment (June- November) after agreeing to credit our account to rectify their own billing mistake. They don’t respond to emails; they don’t do what they say they’ll do; they are continuing to threaten us with service cancellation and credit collection. They are by far the worst at customer service … even worse than our experience with Vodafone.
This has to be the absolute worst company to deal with in respect of a total lack of customer service. They made an unauthorised debit from my bank account and when questioned about it the response is “fine, yes, we’ll organise a refund” but no refund ever appears. Complaints sent via their official complaint form do not get acknowledged, emails are ignored, phoning them is hopeless as you get passed from team to team with the promise of “someone will get back to you by the end of the day”, but no one ever does, messages sent via Messenger are replied with stock cut and paste replies such as “we’re sorry to hear about your experience and would like to investigate this further. Could you please provide us with your account details and contact number so we can look into this as a priority?” But no one ever does comes back.
After weeks of messaging with no meaningful response and only after I posted a review on Google Maps did I get an update from ADT to say that it had been escalated to a senior member of the complaints team.
They contacted me to say that my refund would be processed within 7 days. After that 7 days had lapsed they then changed it to say it would be processed within 7-14 days. After that period had lapsed another update was provided stating the refund would be in my account by 4th November. It is now the 9th November and my emails and messages have since been ignored even to the person that was directly dealing with the complaint and refund. You call them out on their Facebook page as to the issues and rather than acknowledging the issue the block you and remove the comments so no one else can see the issues. They have debited undisclosed charges to my bank account which is a clear breach of the Fair Trading Act. They say all the right things to placate the customer but absolutely no follow through in getting complaints resolved despite their website stating they aim to resolve all complaints within 10 days. This complaint has been going on since 24th August, it’s now 9th November. I urge anyone who has similar issues to complain to the Commerce Commission as they are in breach of the Fair Trading Act for failing to disclose fees/charges that they debit from your account and for unconscionable conduct. Do not trust this company with your security. They are deceitful.
THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY THAT I HAVE HAD THE MISFORTUNE TO DEAL WITH. I TOOK OWNERSHIP OF MY CURRENT HOUSE IN AUGUST 2021. ADT'S ALARM SYSTEM HAD BEEN INSTALLED BY PREVIOUS OWNERS SO I DECIDED TO STAY WITH THEM. 17 MONTHS ON , 30+EMAILS AND 25+ PHONE CALLS I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THEM After numerous promises to refund $500 and cancel my contract I have not received the payment despite having received emails confirming they would pay this, I have emails telling me that the credit note has been raised. I was promised I would receive transcripts of all of my phone calls to them. Received none. Instead, I keep getting phone calls every few days telling me to pay $51 to continue getting the service. The contract, however, was cancelled months ago. I am fed to the teeth of being harassed by this company , Despite being reassured these calls will be stopped, they still chase me.THEY OWE ME MONEY. ---NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. When will this all be sorted out? How can Anyone trust this company to look after their property/alarm system?
I was originally with Vivint until ADT bought them out, and at a later stage ADT came to me proposing to change the alarm system since they don't have replacement parts for the other system. I therefore agreed to this but have had constant issues with the alarm system they installed. ADT confirmed they would replace the system with a different one, but 5 months later it still hasn't been done. For the last 5 months I've been running on door sensors only, since the motion sensors keep triggering the alarm (all 3 both from the house and detached garage). I keep calling them, and do not seem to be making progress. When I speak with them they often state they will call me back, but that hardly ever happens.
Cold called about personal alarm and very insistent. Cold calling and door knocking are forbidden for those accredited by the Dept of Social Welfare to provide alarms for the elderly. Very persistent, and clearly just wanted to get their hands on our disability allowance. I checked and this behaviour has come to the attention of the Consumer organisation who are requesting that their accreditation be reviewed by government. Take care when dealing with this organisation, especially if you are elderly or have elderly relatives who might be vulnerable to pressure selling.
