Ladies pointing, plastering and rendering course

I attended the Ladies’ Pointing, Rendering and Plastering course on Saturday as I wanted to properly understand traditional methods and techniques while renovating my period property.

The team at Womersleys were incredibly knowledgeable, but what really stood out was how friendly, welcoming and supportive they were throughout the entire day. They created a relaxed and inclusive environment where everyone felt comfortable asking questions and getting involved, and no question ever felt too small.

We started with the basic, surface preparation, mixing, application and finishing techniques. Ian explained the different types of materials we could use depending on our preferences and needs, and gave a really clear explanation of the benefits of lime and why it’s so important for allowing older properties to breathe.

At the end of the course we were given information packs covering everything we had learned, which was great as it meant there was no pressure to constantly write notes and we could fully immerse ourselves in the day.

I’m currently pointing a chimney breast and I had been struggling to find the correct mortar match for my stones. I brought along a few stone samples and the team kindly helped me choose the right colour. I was also able to purchase the materials and tools I needed, meaning I could start my project the very next day at home.

Over the years I’ve received so much conflicting advice while renovating that it became overwhelming. This course really helped cut through that and made me realise how important it is to learn from specialists when working with older properties.

I honestly learned more in one day than I have in the past three years of renovating. I now feel far more confident applying the correct techniques to help preserve the heritage of my home. My only regret is not finding them sooner.

Since the course I’ve emailed them for further advice and their customer service has been outstanding. I would highly recommend their courses to anyone renovating, particularly if you own a period property. They genuinely give you the knowledge, confidence and tools you need to do things properly.

Thank you to the whole team for such a fantastic and inspiring day.
