This is the best school in the Lansing area!

Good on education, poor on discipline.

My son who is now in 2nd grade has attended this school since kindergarten. The staff is so dedicated to making sure the students achieve greatly to their fullest potential!!! Love WPCA!!!

I have been very impressed with the academic and moral focus of the school. There is an excellent level of communication between the faculty and the families. I highly recommend Windemere Park Charter Academy.

My family came here two years ago, and my only regret is that we didn't apply sooner. A truly smart and sensible no bullying policy that the staff are committed to, opportunities for my children to explore new interests, yearly class trips, and if you run into a problem help is a phone call away. There's only two, relatively small reasons I didn't give the school a five star,. 1- pick up and drop off is challenging, not through any fault of their own, just the way the building is designed. They do the best they can with what they have to work with. 2) I'd like to see more healthy pros available for lunches, such as à salad bar or something of that nature.

But really overall, we've had a great experience here and is have no problems recommending this school to families.

Wonderful over committed teachers helping children to surpass blase potential.

Students are constantly verbally and physically abusing my child. Teachers and staff do not see (or ignore?) too many altercations. We do not feel our child is safe in this school.

I just want to say that I did the referral program and it stated that I would get a gift card for referral children to the school and well I never receive anything. It was false advertisement and I think if your going to lie to me and create falsely hood then can I even trust them with my child and with my child's education?

1. Teachers managing discipline to children - some teachers are not motivational and even detrimental to students in handling classroom discipline. For example, if one or few students are declared by a teacher as unruly, THE WHOLE CLASS is punished by letting them stand next to the fence during recess time. This is so wrong on 3 counts:
a. The whole class is punished instead of the few that needed the discipline - I can imagine the few who did the offense going "wow, amazing power I have to affect the whole class this way!".
b. Young kids get unruly after sitting in the classroom for extended periods of time. it's amazing how the school has turned into a holding tank of some sort compared to the advances in workplace motivation we have nowadays - have you checked Google Corp's main headquarters? wanna know what makes them one of the best place to work? that's right, just google it.
c. IF you want to do the "one does wrong, all gets punished" route, you need to give the whole class an opportunity to TEAMWORK and learn tremendously from it. This means they need to understand why they are being punished this way, giving them time to process that and what it means to them, then time to come up with a solution, then time to implement. Not sure what kind of management makes gazillion bucks in this business of education, but hopefully they know "Plan, Do, Check, Act" process in business world can be used in the kids world with amazing fun and effectivity. Otherwise you are just simply being cruel.

2nd big point - is it a rumour or is it true, that WPCA will not hold back a student for poor performance, that ALL students are sure to graduate, whether academic performance does not reflect acceptability in grade level?
for example, a 3rd grade student at the end of the school year remains in 3rd grade level for reading, science, and 2nd grade for math. will that 3rd grade student continue on to 4th grade? or stay at 3rd grade next school year?

Does WPCA want to continue in this route, and watch their "great place to take your kids to school" trend head in an undesired direction? Personally when we started with our oldest kid, we were attracted to WPCA because we knew the teachers and we heard and saw the quality and standards to be very high and acceptable. we have our 4th and 5th kids there and we are actively seeking to move them out - our feeling have changed from "we are glad to have our kids in WPCA" to "until find another school to make a change, we're stuck". If it gets any worse, we'll just have to bite the pill and pull them out of there. In fact, our 2nd kid, we pulled out and home schooled for a year before she went off to high school.

This school has made my child so comfortable and excited to learn that she comes home and teaches her dolls her daily lessons. I love everyone I have come across in this school.
