We used Wheego car hire in Malaga, they are fraudsters, cheats and thieves, I am not sure if the whole company is corrupt or just this office, I think, judging by the companies lack of responses, it is throughout. The staff find slight damage to returned cars which they insist was caused by the renter, withhold excess and claim massive costs for minor blemishes. Fortunately my credit card company recognised the dishonesty and returned the bulk of my charge.
I was subsequently asked by Wheego customer services for more information followingmy review, so they could investigate my complaint, which I did, but received no further response, I think that sums up how bad and uncaring this company is.

⭐️ 1/5 – FRAUD AND MONEY EXTORTION – AVOID!
Definitely the worst car rental company we've ever dealt with. What happened to us at Malaga airport wasn't a "mistake," but a deliberate attempt to take money from customers.
The car was pre-booked, paid for at a good price, and fully insured. After arriving, we waited a very long time at the designated location for someone to pick us up. No one showed up, and no one informed us of any problems. Only when we called were we told to continue waiting.
Upon arrival at the office, we received shocking news: our reservation had been canceled because we were supposedly about an hour late. According to the employee, "that's what it says on the website," and in such a situation, the reservation is forfeited and the money stays with them. This means the customer is left without a car and no refund. We were offered a new car rental... for a much higher price, of course, with a generous 15% "discount." This seems like a typical scheme: cancel the reservation and force the customer to pay much more a second time.
Furthermore, the employee started making up absurd excuses that there would be a problem because we had a British driving license and a Polish passport (which wasn't a problem at other rental companies).
When we asked to be driven to the airport, it turned out that another group of people were waiting for transportation and were likely to be treated the same way. No one answered the phone at the office, and it was chaotic and completely unprofessional.
At the airport, we found another rental company where we rented a car for less without any problems and with normal service. The employees confirmed that this company is known for such "tricks" – they cancel reservations for early or late arrivals to keep their money.
To me, this is fraud and theft. I warn everyone: DO NOT USE THIS RENTAL COMPANY, because you may lose your money and be left without a car on vacation.

!!!Avoid this company!!! We tried to rent a car and at the beginning the gentelman behind the desk was very happy and polite. At one point she told my wife 'please tell me you have a credit card with you full name on it'. Turns out all the different credit cards my wife had only had her first name as an initial.I have to be honest, even if it was written in the small print somewhere, I did not see it. This has never been an issue with any other company we have rented with (and believe me there has been loads). The guy said this is very common and claimed most other companies have the same policy. He name dropped Greenmotion & Drivalia. As we had literally just come from Greenmotion to drop our car off we knew for a fact this was not the case. Caught him red faced and he mumbled something and said the Liverpool one definitely has that policy. Again, a lie we know for a fact. He insisted of us taking a £50 per day insurance to get the car. We paid £45 for 5 days rental so of course we refused. Went to Drivalia instead who did a same day 5 day rental for £40 and had no issues accepting the credit card. As we are generally using our own excess cover, we dont mind using companies that are cheaper and know all the tricks they are trying to get money off you. This was next level though and I honestly can not stress enough to please not use these chartalans!!!!

Presumably a deliberate scam. We arrived and were told unless we paid an additional 210 Euros we had to return to car fully washed and cleaned. When we said we would return it clean, they then refused to accept either of my credit cards because they both had my first initial rather than full name. Just like every other Santander MasterCard. Amazingly, if we agreed to pay the additional 210 Euros, then the credit card was fine. Total scam, and a shame because we had rented from Wheego for years without issues (and using a credit card with my first initial). I would guess they are struggling financially and so finding ways to force people to pay more.

They additionally charge for the processing of traffic violations. The charge is made through a debt collector company. For example, if you get a fine for parking ticket in the amount of €20, you will be charged over €100.

If I could go for 0 starts , I would. I would not recommend anyone renting with this company. We were 45 min late and they gave the car we booked to someone else and when we arrived they said we have to pay extra for another car. They also left us with no fuel and on our return almost charged us for a scratch that was not ‘our’ fault. Thanks God we took a video of the car before renting so we had a proof.

0/5. Was told when I arrived that my third party insurance was not valid and I would have to pay the deposit, however they would not accept my credit card ( valid less than 6 months), an AMex or taking the deposit from a debit card. I was therefore told that my only option was to pay for their insurance. Was told the amount, I clarified that there was no other way for me to get the car, which they confirmed. The add. Insurance cost 2x what I had already paid for the car. They then tried to tell me I’d use a whole tank of fuel for where I was going (2 day hire) and it would be better value for me to pay for the full tank and return it empty as petrol prices are increasing daily, thankfully I had the sense to decline and only ended up using 1/4 of a tank.
I have today received an invoice that includes add roadside assistance I didn’t want or need and a broker fee. Not disclosing what people are paying for is unlawful and unethical. I will be disputing the payment. Avoid this company at all cost. I’ve rented a lot of cars from many different companies and never been deceived like this

They didn't give me a car. None of the three reasons they gave in turn were objective. I'm very disappointed.
Oh yeah! When my arguments proved stronger, they offered to pay an extra 180€ so we could pick up the car. It was the worst car rental experience ever!
My vacation was ruined. I don't recommend this company.

Once you rent a car with them they treat you like an ATM. Charging once 80, once 150 euro, for forwarding tickets (which were appealed and cancelled). They also change the agreement which you signed at beginning of rental with suggest signing new one afterwards where they enter different fees... the car which i received was the weakest possible in this class, very long pick up in Liverpool

Shameful scam disguised as a car rental – AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I rented a car from Wheego at Manchester Airport on February 14, 2026. What I expected to be a simple deposit turned into a fraudulent charge of €1,242.56, taken from my card without any explanation, document, or consent.
At the counter, the employee explicitly told me I was simply authorizing a security deposit. I was handed no contract, no breakdown of charges, no explanation whatsoever. I signed blindly on an electronic pad with no screen, no visibility, no receipt, and only received a so-called invoice after returning home, showing an expensive insurance I NEVER accepted, NEVER saw, NEVER discussed.
Let’s be very clear:
No written consent.
No verbal offer of insurance.
No documentation provided at pickup.
Just a dishonest tactic to charge customers without informing them.
This is deceptive, unethical, and possibly illegal.
I have filed a formal dispute with my bank and will escalate the case to the relevant financial and consumer authorities in both the UK and France.
If you value your time, money and basic transparency, stay far away from Wheego.

Dont bother. Hired car before going to poland. Flight details passed to them. On arrival to Krakow, we had 3 hr delay to get through passport control. No signal in side terminal. Once outside, waited for transfer to their office. Then told as 2 1/2hrs late that car no longer available and I have to rebook...you guessed it...at 5x the original price. Told them to stick it and took an Uber. Totally unprofessional and just conned us.. However...after reading reviews, I think I dodged a bullet! My advice would be to skip hire cars in Poland and just Uber it. Its so cheap, I cant work out how they make money but anyway...stay away from Weego! Update: spoke to bank of Scotland credit card and they refunded in 20 mins.😁

AVOID THIS COMPANY WHEEGO AT ALL COSTS
Manchester Airport at Clayton Hotel inside.
DO NOT book your car through EasyTerra or Wheego.
I rented a car for for 3weeks from 9th February 2026 at Manchester Airport, and the experience was extremely stressful and unacceptable.
The website does NOT clearly explain that the credit card must show your full name exactly as it appears on your driving licence. In the UK, most credit cards only show initials and surname due to data protection. This is completely normal.
I first used a company credit card — refused.
I then provided my personal credit cards (Monzo, Amex, HSBC) — all in my name — refused again.
Their excuse? The name was not printed exactly how they wanted it. This is their own internal policy, and it was NOT made clear at the time of booking.
After putting me under pressure at the desk, their “solution” was to charge me an extra £400 on top of my rental that i purchase full cover insurance on the website. They tried to justify it by saying it would still be cheaper than booking direct. They also “upgraded” me from a Fiat 500 to a Corsa — which I did not ask for and did not need.
This felt like a tactic to force additional charges once I had no other option at the airport.
The whole situation caused unnecessary stress and completely ruined my trust in this company. Policies like this should be made crystal clear before payment is taken — not when you are standing at the counter.
Save yourself the hassle and book directly with a reputable hire company. defo NOT Wheego
if i can upload image on here of the picture they impose i would. to show you how they scam people over there card name.
Learn from my experience — do not make the same mistake.

Birmingham Airport Office. Be very careful! The cheap price attracts customers but they failed to collect me from the airport and telephone number supplied doesn’t work. When I eventually got to the them, they are a bunch of cowboys. The car was filthy, had no windscreen wash, and the tyre pressure lights started flashing. On returning the car they tried to make out I had damaged one of the wheels. This is where they make their money, fraudulently. I told the guy he need o check the tyre pressures as the warning lights were on. He laughed and just reset it! So dangerous! He then drove me back to the airport in the car at very high speeds breaking every limit along the way. I’m amazed that they haven’t been shut down. It feels criminal!

Absolutely would not use this company again.
The car was not fit for purpose, It was absolutely filthy. Was highly pressured into taking their expensive insurance Late at night and in an unfamiliar place, yet, When I had an issue, they would not come and replace the car, They told me to bring the car back, even though the engine was failing. All the lights were coming on and they told me it was okay. I said I would make the four hour journey to take the car back, They didn’t reply for ages and left me waiting when they finally did reply they didn’t let me know in time if it was okay to bring it back they told me an hour before they were closing to bring it back, which was impossible. The car went to limp on the motorway, almost causing a crash, The car wouldn’t start on the morning I had to drive to the airport so I nearly missed my plane. I barely used the car as was too scared to go far. Despite numerous attempts to get them to come and change the car as I was assured would do by taking out their extra insurance. They just kept on telling me that it was safe to drive even though it kept on going limp and saying that there was an engine failure.!
A Friend of mine also used this company within this time and they refuse to give them a car as they wouldn’t take out the extra insurance and left them stranded on the side of the road.
After 25 years of hiring cars in Spain, this has to be the worst company. The whole experience left me very anxious and worried about driving it.

If i could give 0 i would, had 2 bookings with them in January and in February they refused to give me a car as i did not had international driving license, but January was everything perfect with that. and by the way while i was still in their office i booked another car with different company, and i mentioned to them, so he said in Spanish to the driver do not stop by that car rental company as they go past to airport, let them get another shuttle and waste their time,( i do understand Spanish) complete wankers, would never recommend anyone to rent a car from this company.

SCAM ARTISTS……. Beware!!!
1st they scam by insisting that a credit card is absolutely needed and 3 months in date, to get the quoted price. Then they nearly triple the quoted cost.
2nd they quickly walk away, when handing over the car, NOT giving you a walk around to see any damage. ALWAYS MAKE A VIDEO.
3rd when dropping off they usher you away saying they will check the car in, again without giving you a walk around, later calling you with supposed damage.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - YOU WILL REGRET IT!
Hi
I spoke to one of your agents earlier about this booking.
On arrival at the hire car offices (Wheego) in Malaga I was asked if I had an International Drivers Permit, which I don't and which your booking documents say I don't need if I have a UK Driver's license. He insisted that an International permit was a new requirement from 1st January this year, which I know it isn't.
It became obvious that this was a prelude to insisting that without an International permit I would need to take their (expensive) excess insurance in addition to paying the balance of the car rental amount.
When I told the agent that, as a regular traveller to Spain, I had never needed an International permit and I had my own excess insurance, the discussion became heated and he refused to provide me with a car. I told him I thought this was a scam, offering a low rental price and then forcing additional costs onto their customers.
It was at this point that I called your team, who agreed with me that I didn't need an International permit and that I was perfectly entitled to refuse their insurance.
The Wheego agent refused to speak to your team member, or give me his name, so I cannot give these details but he was a young man with black curly hair (not much to go on I know) and he finished by insisting that my wife and I left the property. He also refused us permission to use the transfer bus to get back to the airport where we could hire a car from another supplier.
As it happens we didn't have any luggage with us at the time and we were able to walk to another car hire firm nearby and rent an alternative vehicle.
This company are located away from the airport and I suspect this is a common tactic to force additional costs onto tired travellers who would otherwise be stuck, with luggage (and children?) in a remote setting in a foreign country.
I only paid 2 euro deposit for this rental and I would like this refunded but more importantly I suggest you consider whether this supplier is someone you want to be associated with in future.

Contacted support team weeks ago as requested, still no response from them.
Wheego Wuppertal - Scam
Car pick up was okay. Paid at the till, including the deposit. Brought the car back. All okay.
This was 8th of July 2025. I just received a letter from a collections agency that I have to pay double, because "I didn't pay the bill" with Wheego. No calls, no emails, no bills, no "I'm sorry, but in the end the payment didn't go through, we made a mistake", but a "pay now or your credit score will be affected", which it probably already is.
So because of these scammers, my perfect credit score now has issues.
And trying to contact them through customer support will probably not do anything.

They are scammers. Normally each company takes a deposit from your credit card, in this case it was 990 euros. When i arrived they explained that for some paper reason they will splitt it in two 199 and 791. After i returned the car they unblocked only 791 , after contact they say they will keep the other 199 for 6 months until they find out for sure if i don't have police tickets. Never heard of this before, blocking 200 euros for this reason for 6 months, we don't know if this company will be around another six months. Its same comany as Dryvve

I renting the car in December and after 3 month they give my money back, no accidents, no penalty from police nothing. Phone no response emails no response 0. Be far from them.
