AVOID WHEATON/BEKINS AT ALL COSTS — The worst moving experience we have ever encountered.

If zero stars were an option, they would have earned it. What should have been a routine move turned into a month-long nightmare of incompetence, broken promises, and complete disregard for the customer.

We were originally scheduled for a single truck. On the day of our move ,after nearly completing packing we were suddenly informed the truck was already full from a prior move. This forced us to reschedule for a second truck, after already having adjusted our moving dates to accommodate their earlier scheduling failures. Because of these last-minute changes, our family had to rearrange work schedules to cover their poor planning.

The delays continued with both trucks arriving much later than scheduled on multiple occasions. My family was left waiting repeatedly, with no regard for the time and disruption this caused.

The delivery process was even worse. We lost money on hotel reservations due to repeated delays. Despite very clear communication that our remaining items needed to be delivered by March 30th, Wheaton/Bekins failed to meet even that basic timeline. Weeks after a proposed April 21st delivery date, I was still forced to chase them down for updates. Only to discover our belongings were still sitting untouched in their warehouse the day they were supposed to be delivered.

When I was finally handed off by Diane to their so-called “senior coordinator,” Lisa Gilpatrick, any remaining hope of professionalism vanished. I spoke with her once and she never returned any of my calls or emails that she was included on. When I first spoke with her she basically told me since I had my “essentials” that there was no issue. An absolutely unacceptable response after delays and zero accountability.

It took multiple emails and calls just to get any answers, and even then, delivery was delayed yet again due to their decision to use the original driver, a blatant cost-saving measure that put their convenience ahead of our needs. Which come to find out it’s not very typical to have the same driver deliver the second load.

When our belongings finally arrived, we discovered a missing item. They refused compensation because I had previously filed a claim for a damaged mattress, as if one claim excused them from addressing any further losses.

At every stage, Wheaton/Bekins demonstrated a complete lack of:
• Accountability
• Communication
• Professionalism
• Respect for the customer

This company operates with one priority: protecting their bottom line at the direct expense of their customers. The repeated delays, the evasive communication, the dismissive attitudes, and the financial impact this caused my family are absolutely inexcusable.

If you value your belongings, your time, your sanity, and basic customer service stay far away from Wheaton/Bekins. There are far better, more reliable companies out there.

Worst Move Experience Ever

I am not sure even where to start with our move experience. We have moved frequently (usually about every 3 years), and this is by far the worst move experience we have ever gone through. We moved across country and hired All Reasons to manage our move. All Reasons used Wheaton as the cross-country mover. They were referred to us by an acquaintance and were by far the most expensive of our options, but we were concerned about the quality of our move and so followed the old adage that "you get what you pay for." Unfortunately, that is not how this experience worked out at all. I will have to abbreviate a bit to not exceed the character limit for this post.

- Poor communications: The person I was directed to contact with questions could never provide answers and had to check with someone else. Emails were either not responded to at all or would take days to receive a response. Note: We had to move in a short period of time due to selling our house very quickly, so we didn't have the luxury of waiting days for responses.
- Grossly over-estimated: Weight was estimated at 12,000 lbs., but was only 9,000 lbs., and storage was estimated at 11 vaults when it took only 7 vaults.
- Delivery window of July 1-July 10 was provided: On July 9 when we had not received a specific delivery date, we contacted them and were told they "hoped" to deliver to us by July 13. On July 15, they contacted us again to say that they were projecting delivery on July 17. On July 16, they contacted us again to let us know they were charging our credit card. No less than an hour after that call, we received a call from Wheaton (the company they used to complete our cross-country move) to inform us that the moving truck/trailer had been broken into and that some of our items "may" have been stolen. The break-in occurred while the truck was still in CA so it had occurred days earlier, but they did not inform us until the day before delivery.
- Many items stolen and/or damaged: Irreplicable family heirlooms were stolen. A brand-new office desk and dining room chairs were damaged even though they wrapped by All Reasons. Our "high value" items/boxes were clearly marked and All Reasons assured us that they would receive special care and tracking. However, most of those items was also stolen and the few that were not stolen were just mixed in with all of the other boxes.
- Bed assembly: We paid extra to have our bed assembled on the day of delivery. The assemblers did not come until the next day and then did not put the bed together properly. Also, parts were missing even though All Reasons disassembled the bed and packaged the parts. We had to pay for Sleep Number to come out to correctly assemble the bed.

When we contacted All Reasons about the situation, all they had to say was "it was unfortunate." We only ever heard from the lower-tier employee who was the same one who couldn't answer any of our questions when preparing for the move. Neither the project manager, the owner, or anyone at a higher level in the company bothered to follow-up and apologize for what had occurred and what we had been through.

We have since been working with Wheaton to deal with the claim which has been an entire process in and of itself. We still do not know what additional items might be missing.

This was a very disappointing experience, and it is "unfortunate" that we chose poorly in picking these companies to work with. We definitely did not get what we paid for. Worst moving experience ever.

Just don’t.

This was my second and final time using this company. While my first move went smoothly, my recent experience was awful. There was no communication about the pickup time, and the staff was rude and unprofessional. They mishandled my belongings, dragging items in the street and carelessly transporting fragile boxes. I wouldn’t recommend this service. I waited around all day for a delivery that never showed. I didn’t expect to waste half my day for a two-bedroom condo move, especially with movers taking personal calls and complaining about items they had already been informed about.

Moving with this company is a nightmare that keeps on unfolding. My belongings were damaged during the move, including brand new furniture that is now trashed. When I confronted the driver, he became confrontational, insisting the damage wasn’t his fault. I witnessed him dragging my expensive mattress and furniture down a flight of stairs and across the parking lot, yet he denied responsibility.

It’s absolutely appalling that I paid for this service only to have my belongings destroyed, be left waiting all day for nothing, and be treated so poorly. I will never use this company again.

This company is a joke!

This company is a joke. We paid for the full coverage insurance just in case something went wrong and turns out that was total waste of our money. The company denied our claim for items that they lost or stolen, saying it was our word against theirs, and we couldn't prove it. We lost items valued at over $4500. We were not informed of nor given the proper paperwork to document that all items were delivered. The driver was a rude jerk and I caught him carelessly kicking our boxes hard down the ramp, everything was stacked haphazardly in our garage, and we were told that they didn't have time to place things where we wanted because his truck would turn off if he stayed too long. (He lied) This was a terrible experience and I will never use this company again. I would do all the work myself rather than hiring a company as subpar and dishonest as this one. Beware!!!

STAY AWAY if you value your time and…

STAY AWAY if you value your time and belongings. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! There are much better moving companies out there. Believe all the bad reviews about Wheaton.

Don't hire Wheaton if you are moving. They have been giving my family the run around, and failing to pay out insurance on $18,000+ worth of damages/lost items since last October, 2024 (8 months now). They tried to blame everything on their local partner who has been fantastic to work with. There is photographic evidence everything was ok when it was loaded. Their driver also tried to charge me for additional/unused/unnecessary services on the day of delivery. They/I have all the documentation proving everything.

Far From Great

Wheaton moved us from OH to TX with a stop into storage for almost 2 months. In their apparent zeal to take as little space on the truck as possible, multiple pieces were damaged/destroyed. Boxes were completely destroyed. Shelving units I had carefully wrapped came off the truck as loose pieces. Our refrigerator plug was crushed and not working. Local crew that delivered left things not properly assembled and lied that they had done it. The crew actually carried away a bolt on one piece so I wouldn't see it wasn't properly assembled. They had to reassemble our storage beds because they failed to do it correctly. Added an hour to the move. All 4 of our wardrobe boxes were crushed, leaving our clothes soiled and wrinkled. One mattress which was supposed to be boxed, was delivered half wrapped in plastic/tape and with black footprints all over it. Filed the appropriate claims and received a reasonable response except for the fridge. We needed it repaired right away and the movers wouldn’t pay since we repaired it before they could send someone. All in all, I would not use Wheaton again. I completed Wheaton’s post-move survey, and no one even responded to my complaints.

This 1 star review is 1 of hundreds. Use a company that puts you above the bottom line.

I hired WM Meyers Movers out of Itasca, IL, in 2020 to move my Chicago area home into storage for 2 years while my Charlotte area home was being built. I put my trust in the company that touted themselves as “official movers of the Chicago Bears”. At the time, they were not affiliated with Wheaton or if so, it was not communicated to me. Had I known I would have gone with another company as I give good credence to reviews.

Move in date was February 15th of this year. Many damaged items were immediately evident and in the subsequent days of unpacking more and more was discovered. Frustrating yes, but at that point I wasn’t too alarmed. Having made several long distance moves, I understand these things happen and why I opted for the best zero deducible insurance coverage offered. After thoroughly documenting everything with photos, receipts and descriptions, I submitted a claim for 16 items totaling $3,200. The claims adjuster upon learning that I had the damaged items repaired and discarded the broken ones immediately called out a excerpt from their terms of service policy stating that “they have the right to inspect and repair damaged articles”. A clause they used to absolve themselves of fair payment despite the indisputable visual evidence. Upon going back & forth with the adjuster, the contradictory feedback made it clear to me they had no intention of accepting responsibility citing “we didn’t have the opportunity to inspect”.

Here are just 2 of the many aforementioned contradictions:

• 3 of the denied items claimed were observed and noted by the crew chief of the delivery team which to me checks the inspection box.

• They did cover 3 items for $665 based solely on photo documentation with no inspection requested. Yet inspection was their sole basis for denying the majority of the claim.

With moving and storage, I spent over 40K with this company. They used a buried gray area policy with arbitrary application to save $2,300 from their bottom line. And if this all sounds like just one disgruntled customer going on a rant, check out the 100+ 1 star google reviews and 2 star Yelp rating. That should speak volumes about the integrity of Wheaton Worldwide. Do your due diligence to find a reputable moving company that will treat your belongings with the care they deserve and you with respect.

Worst moving experience I've ever had or heard of

Where to begin. I was lied to by the salesperson that visited us in the home we moved from. Bekins will not use Bekins employees to load/unload. Bekins will not place your mattresses in a plastic bag. Bekins will not load the truck heaviest on the bottom. I should know, I weighed every box on a commercial scale and wrote said weight on each box. My mattress looks like it was dragged through the truck. The movers all wore shirts advertising other moving companies! and the icing to my negative experience paying Bekins almost $19k? I financially supported and rewarded a company that utilized child labor. Yes, you read that correctly. Bekins used child labor to unload the truck, right up until I saw this and told the driver to make sure that kid isn't lifting another box or we're done. That poor kid was here all day. He was used as a translator. He was in our home to use the rest room. If he had slipped on the floor or when the movers dropped my dresser on the hardwood floor damaging both, what if his foot was under it? Then he sat in the truck, what if something tipped over hitting him in the head. Bekins corporate replied to my email and said....they investigated and because he was the son of one of the three adults, the matter is closed. Not even an apology. So, $19k and my piano is all busted up with keys that don't work or rest properly, my mattress looks like an old dirty rag, my dresser has had its finish scrapped right down to raw wood, my hardwood floor has a sweeping arc indentation in the wood with the finish worn down to raw wood and my daughters bed support id cracked in half, just to name a few of the things they broke but the president of The Wheaton Group consider the matter closed. Sure, I have a damaged claim in process but weeks later and all they have done is to send an antique toy repairman to my home to evaluate the damages.
I can't upload the pictures I have of the 10 year old that was here but if you look on Yelp, you'll find it.

Won't Pay Insurance on missing items

It is interesting how my issues are almost identical to others I have read. I have read reviews before the move and assumed some of them were just a one off or very picky people. Boy was I wrong.
They damaged 95% of our furniture, and then won't pay for missing items even though I paid for additional insurance. They claim because they didn't know what is in the box we can't pay for it.
Claim we didn't note the missing item on the inventory list. We wrote on it, not all boxes accounted for. We are down to $1500 on a $10,000 claim and they still keep denying the missing items
They said they did a search for the missing items and guess what, they didn't find them so they must not be missing.

Beware of this organization and look elsewhere

We used this company along with Delaware Moving and Storage. It was a disaster from start to finish. Packers did not show up the first day and we were promised the A-team the second day. What showed up was one experience packer, one inexperienced packer and one guy who spent about 2 hours packing and the other 8-9 hours on the phone or in the truck apparently having a mental breakdown. Many items left unpacked when the moving van arrived the next am. Needless to say at the other end there was damage to furniture and some packed goods and some items were just missing (at least so far). We did not have a home at the other end so had to place items in storage. I was there when items were unloaded an identified some of the broken furniture items but it was not possible to do all due to the rapid pace of unloading. I made a claim for broken items and damaged (over several thousand dollars) furniture all of which were then denied by the carrier. I would not recommend this organization by any means.
