What made my experience great
What made my experience great? Having the ability to gain a recognized degree without having to waste years of life. I was able to access the material and learn at my own pace, while having a community (Facebook, Reddit, Discord) to help guide me and support me. Being assigned a personal mentor to reach out to when I am feeling down so they can offer guidance for my next move. The only negative towards WGU is the live proctoring that takes place as there could be issues during that process that is hectic.

WGU is what US higher ed needs
WGU is exactly what the current US higher ed system needs. WGU provides access to quality education independent of physical location and the ability to dedicate years abd considerable financial resources into education; it extends opportunity. I wanted to gain a US credential upon immigrating from Europe and changing industries. Holding 3 previous degrees gives me grounds, I believe, to speak to WGU’s academic rigor. WGU offers rigorous, quality education. WGU’s study materials are comprehensive, informative, and very enriching if one properly delves into them. WGU teaches timely, practical, in-demand skills, which I found incredibly useful in my work even before finishing my degree. Also importantly, the possibility to accelerate one’s studies was crucial in my decision to go to WGU and a considerable advantage, still very unique in higher ed.

An Amazing School
The way that I could learn on my schedule helped not only to be able to flexibly learn important details in the courses, but it also allowed me to learn very important skills like self-discipline, motivation, and resilience. The instructors, mentors, and coaches were all amazing and truly helped me to succeed in this environment and helped me get through all of the setbacks I would face.

My WGU experience
I’ve really enjoyed the platform that WGU has created—it worked exceptionally well for me as an adult learner returning to school after more than 35 years. I appreciated the ability to study independently and progress through my courses at my own pace. One of the highlights of my experience was the relationship I built with my mentor. Her support was invaluable, and it was a true pleasure to finally meet her in person at the Commencement ceremony.
That said, there were a few aspects of the program that I felt could be improved. Specifically, the number and type of required courses sometimes felt excessive. I would have preferred to focus more on classes directly related to my degree. A few courses seemed redundant, and I often found myself questioning why I needed to take them—especially when I had already completed very similar coursework within the same program.

Best decision for your wallet!
At WGU I was able to obtain my Masters degree in under a year and propell my career forward. Their faculty was knowledgeable and helpful and the program was cost effective. Competency based learning also helped move the program at an appropriate rate for learners.

WGU is amazing
I loved my experience at WGU! I had always wanted to return to school to earn my Master's Degree, but like so many other working adults, I didn't have the time or money to afford graduate school at a traditional brick-and-mortar university. I eventually found WGU and was able to enroll in a program that aligned with my job (specifically, Master of Education, Education Technology and Instructional Design).
It was an amazing and informative program that let me work on my own time. They had a variety of videos, useful readings, methods for checking for understanding, mentors who checked in with you, and relevant assignments. Best of all, I could work at my own pace. Sometimes I was busy and couldn't even think about school for awhile, and that was ok. Other times, I had more free time and was able to catch up and even accelerate.
I loved the competency based method. There were some classes I was already well-versed in so I just went straight to the Objective Assessment and passed it. The Performance Tasks were also relevant to my degree/job and even fun. It never felt like busy work for the sake of busy work.
I will say that it's important for prospective students to know how to manage their time and focus. You have to have a sense of time management and work ethic. Make sure you have a decent computer and a dedicated space, especially for the proctored tests.
Overall, it was an amazing program. I hope one day to hear that WGU is offering doctoral programs!
