Do not trust Western Book Publishing
(Prior to placing this review, I have emailed it to Western Book Publishing (WPB), for their info.)
I would urge anyone considering using these incompetent (at best), charlatans, to think twice, and learn from my mistake. I did not want to give them a one star but there are no minuses.
As a new author, based in the UK. I admit to being naive. However, I have a full, chronological email trail which corroborates all I have written.
If I can save others from such trauma, this review will have been worth it.
In June 2025, I paid WBP £1,600 for the publication of my children’s book, three months of extensive publishing, and global distribution.
I chose WBP for their ostensibly professional and informative website.
I was duped.
I encountered numerous major problems, including:
Substandard editing:
This resulted in me completing my own proof work.
Poor layout of my book:
They had obviously not read my book, and so their formatting was not in line with any of the illustrations. Consequently, I had to complete this on my own too.
Inadequate marketing:
I am not referring to sales. This is simply about how and where my book was marketed, as opposed to their promise of extensive global marketing.
Gross incompetence:
Repeatedly, I found myself having to rewrite their publicity narrative because their attempts did either not marry the illustration they chose, or their narrative was grammatically incorrect and/or nonsensical. Even then, on occasion, they would post something completely different from that which I had endorsed!
Furthermore, when they eventually launched my author’s Facebook platform, I noted 1,000 instant followers, who were of dubious character or unreputable. Unfortunately, these are still in situ.
Unscrupulous tactics:
They attempted to extort £1,000 for an ISBN number, telling me the one I had paid for was only for the UK and not global! They also tried to gain a further £500 for a bar code!
After a laborious and anxious few months, I do now have a book, with which I am happy. It is advertised on Amazon, and printed by them,
But this has been hard come by!
I had requested a full refund in August, and latterly a half refund. However, the manager in question turned this around, writing that I am threatening to post this review. It is not a threat!
They purport to be based in Texas, but I have my doubts. English is not their first language, (they are from Pakistan), I did not have a problem with that initially, not until I realised, they were using AI to mask their lack of a comprehensive English language. (They refute this).
