I trusted my bank to protect my…
I trusted my bank to protect my consumer rights, and they violated that trust.
I’ve banked with Wells Fargo for many years.
Recently, I noticed that there was a recurring subscription on my account. I contacted my bank, as I have in the past. As part of our California consumer protections regarding subscriptions, consumers have the right to be protected against unwanted recurring subscriptions.
Imagine my shock and surprise when my bank suspended my debit card privileges for 12 months, basically penalizing me for making the report. When I asked if the decision could be appealed, they said no. I was told I had to reach out to Investor Relations, and I received a call from the Executive Office, who was sincerely apologetic and very helpful. However, the banking side was not.
The Executive Office opened an investigation and told me it would be completed by the 30th. Before that date even arrived, I got a call from Wells Fargo telling me that not only were my current debit card privileges revoked, but my new debit card connected to another account—which wasn’t even associated with the disputed charge—was revoked as well, leaving me with limited, if any, access to my funds. I can’t even conduct an electronic transfer to another bank.
I was told this was because I made a report. It triggered the system to classify me as a high-risk client. How is exercising your consumer rights consistent with being a high-risk client? I filed a couple of reports, and I’m still waiting to hear back from Wells Fargo.
It’s clear that Wells Fargo doesn’t concern itself with protecting the consumer rights of its clients and instead penalizes clients for the actions of other institutions. When you have a relationship with your bank, you trust your bank to work with you and evaluate your banking history as a whole when examining complaints.
What Wells Fargo proved is that not only is it unhelpful to clients, but it also has a disjointed, confusing internal system where departments aren’t even clear on who made a policy decision and can’t articulate it clearly to clients. Leaving a client without access to their funds while claiming the account is still open—when most people no longer use checks—is a tongue-in-cheek way of saying, “We’re avoiding the scrutiny that comes with closing your account, so instead we’re effectively disconnecting you from your funds for a year.” It’s a crafty way of getting around regulatory scrutiny.
As a result, I have been unable to freely access my own money despite having done nothing more than report a disputed recurring charge. The practical impact has been significant. Paying bills, moving funds, and managing everyday financial obligations have become unnecessarily difficult because of a decision Wells Fargo made—not because my account lacked funds or because of any fraudulent activity on my part.
Again, my mistake was that I trusted my financial institution. Given their track record, I probably shouldn’t have. But throughout my relationship with them in the past, they had always tried to remedy mistakes when they occurred. Once the federal regulations were lifted, it’s clear that Wells Fargo returned to being the same institution it was in 2017.
I had a wonderful experience with the…
I had a wonderful experience with the 2710 South 3rd Street branch! The manager Jose went above and beyond to help me even stayed after hours to insure I was satisfied with everything.
Even though they did need appointments he still took me.
I cant say enough about him and the staff! All so sweet !
The fraud department on the phone another story! No good with them!
Complete turn around
I make a daily cash deposit. Of the three branches in Anderson, the Main Street branch was always my last option of choice. It was always slow, non energetic and non customer friendly. With the introduction of Haley, Thomas and the rest of the staff... all I can say is what a complete turn around with everything. Excellent staff. It now says "come on in and bank here." Good job!
Zero Customer Support Services
The 2X points offered with the Well Fargo Active Cash is not enough to offset the wasted effort of miserable support services. Specifically, Wells says they offer international car rental insurance, claims which are processed by Virginia Surety Insurance Company. This is a company that specializes in rejecting claims by requesting duplicate documentation and other requests for information not available. They use this as justification for rejecting claims. Have AI give you a summary of the Virginia Surety reviews, ...its appalling. To get them to respond I filled a complaint with the state insurance regulatory (every state has one). Separately, I received a duplicate charge on my credit card and requested a credit and chargeback. Wells refused and insisted I contact the vendor despite having clear documentation of the duplicate charge. This not a credit card for anyone who values their time or appreciates competent customer service.
Zero fraud protection- Zero service
I have been with them over decade and worse all the time. Customer service nonexistent for fraud. Zero interest if youre existing client, regardless balance. Two fraud cases that were obviously NOT investigated and I lost about 2K. Never going back to them. Zero benefit.

I don’t think wellfargo is doing anything for me I personally pay off my account in full they didn’t reconsider to give me a good credit score
Radika is amazing
I just wanted to take the time to let everyone know that Radika in the Springfield NJ branch is amazing. She has been assisting me with a situation that started months ago and helped me straighten it out. She is truly an asset
Can't open an account
I wanted to open an account with Wells Fargo, but I was told I needed to visit a branch to verify my identity. The problem is there isn't a Wells Fargo branch anywhere near me, so I have no way to complete the process. It's frustrating that they collected my personal information but couldn't offer an alternative way to verify my identity or open the account. Because of this experience, I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
I am writing this review to warBeware Small Businesses: Hidden Fees, High Balance Requirements, and Terrible Servicen other…
I am writing this review to warn other small business owners and individuals before they decide to open an account with Wells Fargo. In November 2025, this bank implemented a drastic policy change that directly hits those of us operating on tight budgets and real cash flows. The bank disproportionately increased its daily balance requirements. For business accounts, the daily minimum jumped drastically from $500 to $2,500 to avoid a $15 monthly maintenance fee. For personal accounts, they now require you to maintain $1,500 daily just to avoid fees ranging between $5 and $15 a month for simply managing our own money. This measure leaves small businesses completely without options. In our day-to-day operations, we do not have a fixed "direct deposit" like a corporate employee; we constantly use our money to pay rent, buy ingredients, and purchase work materials. Cash flow moves all the time, so freezing $2,500 in an account just to avoid getting penalized by the bank is unfeasible and absurd for a local business. On top of this financial abuse, their customer service has plummeted. They have reduced branch staff to a minimum, and most of the remaining employees are not trained to resolve complex issues. Now, if you do not have a prior appointment, they simply will not serve you. If a financial urgency arises in your business, you have to book a mandatory appointment and wait to see when they have availability, which is completely unacceptable. Trying to resolve anything over the phone is just as frustrating: you spend too much time waiting to see if the automated machine will finally transfer you to the right department. It is shameful that these types of institutions run advertising campaigns claiming to support small businesses, when in reality they profit off of them. Everyone knows Wells Fargo is a giant corporation that already generates billions in profits by charging high interest rates on credit cards, mortgages, and loans. They have no need to squeeze the pockets of independent workers with petty account fees and such a deficient service. For this very reason and because of their terrible customer service, I had to close my account with them immediately and move to institutions that better understand our situation, such as Credit Unions, where the treatment is more human, they serve you right away, and the fees are fair. I am leaving this review solely so the community can analyze and consider these abuses before trusting Wells Fargo with their money
Never dealt with a worse bank
Never dealt with a worse bank. They can't afford or just won't send a return envelope with your mortgage payment. Went in person to pay they said they couldn't accept a mortgage payment today, please come back tomorrow. Takes more time out of my day. Other than the mortgage that they bought from another institution, I would never do business with Wells Fargo.
If I could give them a ZERO that is…
If I could give them a ZERO that is what they deserve. This really is the worse bank in the USA. DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS with them! I have had to do so three times in my life time and all three were HORIBLE. The latest is the worse. They do not care that customers complain or hate them. Look up how many times their own employees have stolen customers monies and accounts, how many times they have been hacked, how many times they have violated the laws. The latest for us is the pool/hot tub company ONLY used them with a recreational credit card. They offered 12 month no finance on the balance but you had to have a WF recreational CC. I did not want one but the sales guy and my wife pushed me. I figured best if something happened to do regular finance because if not paid off in 12 months they add HUGE charges and interest hoping that something happens. Then you can pay DOUBLE and throw thousands away. It did. They had no mercy. They do not care. I paid half off but they added in as much as I paid and more. DESTROYED our credit. Tanked our credit. We hired a company who negotiated it back to the balance after thousands I paid. They then STILL did a charge off the rest (all phony charges and huge interest) so as to continue to ruin our credit and tell us even though THEY suggested and agreed for the lesser amount which was actually the TOTAL cost of the pool/hot tub that they would STILL make us pay the EXTRA $13K in fees and interest before they would change the damage. Their customer service people are total morons know nothing when you call. They tell you wrong information and are always rude. The past I had a car and a house loan years ago with them. Same service back then HORRIBLE. Was so glad when I paid off these loans. NEVER EVER AGAIN no matter what WILL I EVER use them. Just had a car loan through MT&T bank and they were excellent. Just paid them off. DO yourself a FAVOR run when it comes to WELLS FARGO.
Wells Fargo has no honor
Wells Fargo is unethical, dishonest, and lacks any type of customer service skill. They continually fail to honor the agreements and contracts made with their customers. Hopefully they will be thoroughly investigated and shut down soon.
Worst bank ever
Worst bank ever! Violates EFTA (Fed electronic funds transfer) laws and the employees who answer the phone at the bank cannot help you with your account over the phone unless you go inside! Lots of stupid rules and a pathetic bank. I closed my acct soon after opening after i got the promo... terrible, awful bank
Terrible terrible bank
Terrible terrible bank. Ordered new checks from them, which i never recieved. Called to report checks missing and for them to not accept any written checks. Instead they put a hard hold on my account. I couldn't pay bills or make purchases. Called them several times over a month period for them to correct issue. Never was resolved. Had to make an appointment to withdraw my own money. The process took 2 hours to get a cashiers check and cash even though I had my driver's license, passport, deed to my home, and temporary license from DMV showing my new change of address. They were holding my money without giving me assess to it. I am cutting all ties with this bank. Not customer friendly.
Irresponsible and unpredictable. have an account with them for more…
I have an account with them for more than 30yrs with the stock market , I had an advisor before they took away my advisor now if I want to buy stocks I have to call they put me on hold for 30mts then I hang up , I don't know if they do it because I am a female or just because, I have been trying to find some one to answer my call since June 12th, very horrible service , irresponsible, I have the right to buy what I want like their wealthy customers, I am very very unhappy with the service.
My accounts were hacked into last week…
My accounts were hacked into last week and it has been time consumng and stressful having to open all new accounts. I must say ther personal banker was not all that friendly and kept yawning while i am sitting there. I thought everything was all set. I called customer service to ask for the routing number that goes with my account to make sure i had the correct one and the girl verified me and all then puts me on hold and 5 minutes later come back and tells me she is still checking then come back again to say it will be a few more minutes and I say why does take this long to verify a routing number? Of course no explanation and I then asked to speak to a supervisor and she argued with me that the supervisor has the same information and I said you are giving no information i want a supervisor. After 5 minutes she comes back to say it will be another 5 minute wait then comes back to tell me no supervisor is there and she would take my information and have one call me. Well of course that has not happened. There customer service sucks. Time to find a new bank that has employees that are polite and can answer simple questions.
This company Automated service is…
This company Automated service is horrible and it’s always been horrible it cuts out on you when trying to make payment I have been complaining about this for years! Fix your phone service for what you consider Loyal customer it supposed to be convenient, static, incomprehensible, it’s terrible, Shame on you Wells Fargo this has been going on for years!
STAY AWAY from Wells Fargo
I have over $200K with this bank for my business and working on closing accounts (6 accounts icncluding personal). The WORST and most UNCARING customer service in the industry. The employees are are untrained in customer service. Their polcies are "unfocused" for customers.
Stay AWAY from Wells Fargo. They should be called "left on hold" bank.
