VOIPO has been a great service provider…

VOIPO has been a great service provider for me since 2011 and I'm renewing my subscription before 10 years is up in 2021! The customer support team is friendly, responsive and quick to resolve any issues that arise. Plus, the call quality is impeccable and I'm able to control all features from my own device. A top-notch service that I highly recommend!

Beware

The appeal of Voipo is the affordable service with a variety of features. But, the overall call quality seems inferior. Caller ID has never displayed the Caller, Date, and Time correctly on any of my residential phones. Although, this is a known problem for many customer accounts, they remain unable to address and resolve the matter. Dialing toll free numbers has inconsistent reliability; it only works sometimes depending on the number. The major issues are the Customer Service and Billing Practices. The customer service agents are friendly. However, they only have limited ability for assistance. The billing department is purely a back end operation. It is not possible to speak with an agent directly for billing issues. A support ticket is created for a later response. Customers are unaware that purchasing their service initiates an automated renewal process. Other major providers (Ex: Amazon, Norton, etc) expressly inform customers of automated renewal. This is not the case for Voipo. They remit an invoice 2 weeks prior to plan expiration, which does not mention their intention to process the fee. Then, they immediately charge the original credit card on file without consent. After the unauthorized charge has satisfied the upcoming renewal balance 14 days early, they will generate a new invoice and charge the card again a few hours later! This should never occur under any circumstance with a confirmed $0 balance on the account! It was grossly unnecessary, inappropriate, and deceptive. Moreover, their concerning billing practices fail to protect customer credit card accounts from misuse. I promptly contacted the merchant to file a fraud claim. I also notified Voipo of their duplicative charge to request a refund. Ultimately, they lack accountability, make excuses, and ignore their various system issues. Let the buyer beware.

Terrible company

Terrible company! You purchase a year's service at a time. When it's time to renew you're sent an email ASKING you to renew for another year, when you say no thank you and don't complete the renewal this company charges you anyway! Then you're told, "it's an auto-renewal," if that was the case then why do they send you information asking you to renew? It's not until you're charged another $185.00 that you find out you paid for another year of service you didn't want!

THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER WORKED…

THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH, EVER, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!

The customer service reps do not help whatsoever, you cannot activate your service without using their hardware, which is sent automatically to the billing address on file, which is often not the same as the shipping address. Now they are not agreeing to refund the order, and are forcing me to pay for another landline phone (the hardware) in order to activate this service, I prepaid for 2 years and they are not agreeing to refund my charge.

I am demanding a refund of the hard earned money that I gave this company, if not I plan on filing a dispute with my credit card company.

Have been on hold for over 30 minutes now with no outcome, very dissatisfied with this service, and after reading the other reviews it seems that we totally dodged a bullet here by using this poor service. I will never use this company again and hope that the owners of it face the legal issues coming to them.

**UPDATE**
2 days later, I receive over $2k worth of unauthorized billings on my credit card on file.

VOIPO sucks ... unreliable, bad support, misrepresentations on service

As a FORMER long time customer, I gave chance after chance and beyond for many years to clean up their act. Reliability and support are beyond pathetic, so my advice is only consider use for a non-primary/cheap backup line or forwarding number as you may not be able to receive or make calls at any given point...
-support can take easily a hold of 20+ minutes to get someone during their advertised hours, nobody responds at times to online chat support from the web site during advertised hours, and then poor support on top of that!
-unreliable SIP server for BYOD devices (e.g. sip client on phone vs. supplied router)
-many events where the service is just completely down with no warnings and not acknowledging most downtimes
-Complete misrepresentation about free international calls for 60 min/month - undisclosed until signed up about severe restrictions to the list of countries plus specifics of carrier and/or type (mobile, landline, etc.) claiming it's due to too much fraudulent calling
-totally botched data center move and lack of redundancy to have stable service - claim that things are fixed and stable that clearly never are and had to fight to get credit for non-working service for several months (e.g. no ring for incoming calls and straight to voicemail, fully down, can't connect to supposedly "working" server(s), etc.)
-made it difficult to switch carriers on the way out claiming they have no control over porting out with nonsense that they don't and can't create a pin for it that many other phone providers require (repeatedly said for the new provider to put in 0000 or 1234 which clearly didn't work in my case and finally I got them to create a pin after several interactions with "support")
-denied my pro-rated refund when I left before end of term

Poor service quality

Poor service quality, missed calls. The mobile app is useless as it does not have push notification service so battery drains very quickly.
Voipo sends you voip adapter that you are supposed to return them at YOUR OWN expense.
Also, they claim billing cycle starts at the day of order but I could not use their service on
first day as the adapter was still in transit. They refused to refund/prorate the cost.
Finally, their customer support is referring to Service Agreement terms that has never been published

terribly slow customer service…

terribly slow customer service response. I have 2 lines for the past 10 yrs. 1 adapter has had intermittently on/off service during the past 12 months. For instance, currently the line has been non-functional for 7 days. I have the 2 lines side by side, same phone with 2 line. Have performed all the tech trouble shooting as requested with no effect. RESPONSE is slow, day between troubleshooting response . only email support . AVOID AVOID AVOID

Unauthorized charge after canceling, poor quality

When at the end of my 2 year contract I emailed to cancel my service, I received an email back with address to return the adaptor, saying I had 30 days to return it or I would be charged $49. Five days later they charged my credit card $185. When I asked for the charge to be reversed they said they charge it until the adapter is returned. They charged a credit card that I had removed from my account for 2 additional years of service that I didn't want. This company has poor sound quality, and poor customer service. I do not recommend them. They could never fix my sound quality issues. They apologized a couple of times in general emails to all customers, but they never gave a credit for poor service. And they still charge you even after you cancel.

CHEAP, BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

Pros: the price is cheap, but don't let that lure you into their den. Service (phone only) is mostly reliable. It is easy to install, but difficult to manage and customize.

Cons: Support is limited, while Customer Service is poor. Mostly they don't understand their own Service Agreement, even when you explain it to them. They are good about collecting your money, and tempt you with 50% off to maintain your account. Albeit, you get what you pay for. Fax capability is poor to non-existent.

VOIPO is terrible

VOIPO is terrible. While I had the service they were fine however I no longer needed it 8 months ago and I cancelled and sent back the adapter. Now 8 months later they just 'renewed' my subscription. When I informed them I cancelled 8 months ago they insisted I did not and requested I send them the adapter that was already sent and are threatening to charge me $50 if I don't return it. I can't return it because it was already returned. They are incompetent.

I have had this service since June…

I have had this service since June 2011. Since the initial setup in 2011, I have had to request support services on four (4) occasions. Once in 2012, once in 2013 and twice in 2019. One request was for a new adapter as mine was eight years old. They sent me one immediately and my service quality was restored. The second was due to equipment upgrade issues which was also promptly resolved. I really like all the features I am able to control myself, the quality of the calls and the very affordable price. Before my first ten years is up in June 2021, I will be renewing my service.

Extremely Poor Service and Not the Likable Company They Claim

I had good service, not excellent, for five years until November 2019 when VOIPO allegedly switched to new servers. I had no service for three weeks and for two weeks after, erratic service. If they actually did a server upgrade, they failed to have a contingency plan in place. I use the company for residential service and I shudder to think the difficulties VOPIO created for business accounts. Today, I was unable to make outbound calls to two international numbers I've called frequently but alas, customer support is only active M-F. When my two-year contract expires next month, I'll switch to a company that really is "likable" and has "Amazing Customer Service" -neither of which VOIPO possesses.

I signed up with VOIPo in June 2019

I signed up with VOIPo in June 2019. Service was good until November 2019. Intermittent failure of phone service for the next two months. Owner apologized for a problem the company was having with an Integration issue. NOT HAPPY! one month refund was given. Poor explanations given by owner. Since I have a cell phone I decided to wait another month. Service got progressively better and I have had problem-free service since late January. If any other problems occur I will find another voip company. Otherwise so far so good.

Avoid this company at all costs

Avoid this company at all costs. When their system goes down (and it will) it goes down in flames for everyone. We had a period of over a week with no service (along with most of their customers). Couple that with many other intermittent times that it would go down for an hour, or a few, or a day, and you have a service that you just can not trust to be working. Never any credit for it... always only excuses. You get what you pay for, but in this case, not even that.

Avoid VOIPO

When we first started with them about 4 years ago we were quite satisfied, but over time the service got worse and worse. Finally the sound quality was so bad that we needed to switch. Getting them to cancel our service turned out to be a nightmare. We told them to cancel last December, but they continued to bill us, responding only in the service ticket (which no one saw, because we had cancelled the service, we thought).
Bottom line, a good service years ago, but no longer. Try Grasshopper, must better service.

You get what you pay for

In late 2019, Voipo was making upgrades to their system. Voipo is a "budget" company (to put it mildly), and so there were lots of outages. A company which charges more might have spent more money to upgrade in a way that no customer lost service. I signed up with Voipo right before this all occurred, and you can imagine now unhappy I was that my new phone company wasn't functioning properly. But now, several months later, I'm happy with them. The service has been functioning properly for at least two months now. I am paying them less than $7 a month, which is a lot less than the $17 I was paying to BasicTalk every month -- AND I am getting more features.
