Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 283 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the payment process, encountering issues with rejected transactions, locked funds, and difficulties transferring money. Customers also frequently reported problems with the app's functionality, including crashes and an inability to add money or access features. A significant number of users were unhappy with the customer service, finding it nearly impossible to reach a live person and receiving unhelpful or contradictory information when they did. Venmo froze my account before I could…

Venmo froze my account before I could add a card and make a transaction. Then asked for all this verification stuff and made some kind of case out of it after I sent my selfie with my id in the picture to them. Said they’d get back to me in a few days. Google ai said they’d flag you if you open an account and immediately try to add a card and use the account to send money. Why else would I open an account? I hate Venmo I hope I never have to use it again.

Locked out of account

How are you still in business when people like me can’t access their account because I don’t have access to the phone number attached to it? It’s an old number and I’m sure someone else owns it now. And I just found apparently you can only own one account per individual, which is crazy with how I can’t even log into my account or do anything with it.

After coming here I’m not surprised and they deserve every single 1 star review that is here, they don’t care so I hope they crash and burn hard

This is by far the worst banking app…

This is by far the worst banking app anyone could ever get I opened an account and 3 days later I deposited $800 when I deposited the $800 they froze my account and told me it could not be reopened for 3 to 5 business days that is completely unacceptable and depositing money is not a Cause or should not be a cause for you to freeze my account I am completely dissatisfied with this company and I probably won't use it again I would also suggest to other people not to use it unless you want to deal with a lot of headaches and not be able to pay your bills on time

Hard to reach customer service

Hard to reach customer service. Useless advice. Third agent finally recommended using Paypal or bank wire transfer because they had no clue as to how to make bank verified transaction go through. Says sysem sometimes rejects transaction and does not provide reason. Cause me great incovenience. Closing this useless account.

Absolutely horrible money transfer…

Absolutely horrible money transfer platform to do business with. Customer support is an absolute joke. There is none available. There help line to resolve issues is so poorly designed that they should be embarrassed to call it a help line. Taking money from your transaction seems to be the only thing they have any skills with. Don't make the mistake of letting them handle your money. PS They are holding $1000.00 of my money in a transfer, and I apparently can talk to nobody except Ai (asinine intelligence) to try to get it.

App does nothing to protect its users…

App does nothing to protect its users in transactions. Completed a transaction with client. Later that night client stated the transaction wasn’t done by him and Venmo removed the funds from my account. I provided documentation with receipts from the client with purchase. Venmo says they’ll investigate and two weeks later they stated it’s out of their hands and the clients bank is investigating. It’s going on 3 months and Venmo stated they have no timeline on the return of funds. So basically any body can scam you and say it wasn’t them no matter what proof you provide. Taking no responsibility and leaving you to wait until the third party bank makes a decision.

Fraudulent

I had Venmo for years without issue or complaint. Suddenly, my account was no longer working because my phone number needed to be verified after going through the process of verifying my phone number I got the reply that my number was not verified. My account was disabled. I spoke to customer service who originally told me I was a child on my mother‘s account and they would need to speak to my mother. I’m 58 years old and it’s my account then they told me the name on the account didn’t match my name which is absurd because in the app it has my name and my account information after a half an hour of back-and-forth they finally verified I was who I said I was and then told me there’s an issue with my Verizon wireless phone number that Venmo does not recognize it. They were no help. I asked to have an escalated. They said no ma’am we will not escalate this so then I asked to close my account, but they are unable to do that because there is a small balance in my account. But since my account is not verified, I can’t transfer that money into my checking account. Long story short I am without a usable Venmo account they have my balance and nobody in customer service would help me… Do not use this app. There’s definitely something fraudulent going on here!!!!

Horrible customer service

Horrible customer service. Not possible to talk to someone in person to resolve an issue. I transferred some money from my bank to my venmo account, after 5 days the money still isn't there, and their stupid chat bot is useless, etc. Also, why do they hold on to the money so long? I also couldn't pay someone with Venmo recently directly from my connected account, so I transferred it to Venmo, and now they're not making the money available. Something is wrong with them lately - never had issues until now. Venmo is part of PayPal, so that probably explains it, because PayPal is also a nightmare if you try to reach someone.

Venmo’s "Purchase Protection" is a…

Venmo’s "Purchase Protection" is a deceptive marketing gimmick
Venmo is currently operating in bad faith by collecting fees for "Purchase Protection" and then summarily denying claims that fall squarely within their written policies.
I paid for a commercial transaction using the "Purchase" toggle for a digital item. The "seller" immediately blocked me, resulting in a total failure of delivery. Despite providing timestamped forensic proof that the merchant terminated the contract, Venmo denied the claim (Case #VM-R-DTI-619191752) stating it was "not covered."
Furthermore, they have refused to provide the documentation or specific criteria used to reach this decision, effectively stonewalling the appeal process. If you pay the extra fee for protection, you are paying for a ghost service. They take the fee and ignore the fraud.
I have been forced to escalate this to the CFPB to get a response. Avoid using Venmo for any transaction where you expect the company to honor its own terms of service.

Less than one star

Less than one star. Zero stars. My standards for good customer service are ground level now since most big companies are terrible but Venmo now wins the award for the worst of the worst. So many glitches, customer service is very difficult to contact. The application tries sooooo hard to route you through various terrible AI agents before you can talk to a person... who then cannot do anything. It's wild that this company is still solvent.

Venmo is completely UNRELIABLE!

Transaction services are inconsistent, no genuine customer service, transaction limits appear to be all over the board, and logging in is sometimes a hassle.

My account was "temporarily frozen"…

My account was "temporarily frozen" immediately upon the setup (upon the creation). I have never used it, and it has been impossible to activate it. They ask for a government-issued ID, which I provided several times over the course of weeks. They have no records of that.
At this point, I want to close my account. Ha-ha-ha! To close an account, it cannot be in the "temporarily frozen" status. This is just brilliant. Who are the people who started using this garbage service? Why people ask me to pay them using Venmo? Is this a pyramid scheme where early adopters get a cut from those who joins later? This company needs to be sued big time!

Let me be crystal clear

Let me be crystal clear: Venmo is a broken, unreliable piece of garbage that has no business being used by anyone who actually needs to send money to another human being.
I've been trying to pay my contractor — a real person, doing real work — and Venmo keeps hitting me with "Your payment can't be completed right now." No reason. No fix. Just a wall of incompetence.
I already did their idiotic workaround once before: delete your payment method, re-add it, pray to whatever god you believe in, and maybe it works for a week before it breaks again. This time I added a brand new verified bank account. Verified. By Venmo. Still the same useless error.
Their support is nonexistent. Their error messages tell you nothing. Their app is a masterclass in how to make a payment platform that actively prevents payments. PayPal built this thing and somehow made it WORSE than PayPal, which I didn't think was physically possible.
I'm done. Canceling everything. Venmo is a waste of everyone's time and the fact that millions of people rely on this clown show of an app to conduct real financial transactions is genuinely alarming.
Zero stars if I could. Absolute trash.
