Avoid

I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this company based on what I’ve experienced.

I reserved a vehicle on Thursday 6 November and paid £99 to secure it. When someone pays a reservation fee, you expect the vehicle to be held for you. Instead, just a few hours later, I called them and was told the vehicle had already been sold to someone else. Nobody contacted me to let me know – I had to chase them myself.

I was told the refund would be processed the next day, but nothing happened. I emailed them on 11 November and got no reply. When I called again, I found out the refund hadn’t actually been processed at all, despite being told it had. They apologised and said it would be sorted immediately, but still nothing.

By Friday 21 November I still had no refund, no response, no update – nothing. Eventually I had to raise a dispute with my bank just to try and get my own money back, and I’m still waiting for that to go through because the company hasn’t refunded me directly.
This whole experience has been stressful, time consuming and completely unnecessary. Imagine paying for something and then be told it is sold and then chasing them to get your money back with no fault of mine, I think to myself is this real life, yes it is because I am going though it. Unbelievable

Great service from Anchor Cars

This is the first time I have been to Anchor Cars and couldn't be more happy with the service. From initially meeting with Adrian for a test drive and then having Aston to deal with my purchase and then it being delivered by Nick P I have been very impressed with all involved.
Will definitely trust Anchor cars when I'm next looking for a new car.

Just purchased a used campervan from them. Aston dealt with the purchase from start to finish and was great. The whole process including delivery was very profesional and i would highly recommend this company.

Purchased our camper from Julian

Purchased our camper from Julian at Vanlux / Anchor Vans.

Julian was very friendly from the start, we were looking at a couple of options, there was no pressure from Julian, after looking at a couple of van he left us to discuss which we liked as a family before taking the one we wanted out for a drive. We noticed a couple of minor things wrong with the van which Julian got sorted for us during the prep stage, he even sorted a couple of things we did know about / didn’t spot, which would have resulted in us having to bring the van back at some point.

We’ve had the van a couple of months now and it’s been great, we did have to take it back for a minor issue where the leisure battery wasn’t holding charge. Julian booked us in and it was replaced, (we took out the extended warranty which is good value if you compare it to others) the service team that did this were friendly and it was ready exactly when they said it would be.

We’ve had a great experience and would certainly go there again and ask for Julian.

Awful company to deal with!

Awful company to deal with. Agreed sale through CarWoW of our 2020 motorhome (owned by us from new) and waited over a week for someone to collect it. We met the driver at the airport this morning at our expense (paying airport charges to pick up). Once at our home he undertook a thorough examination of the vehicle and seemed happy that everything was as described after checking tyres, oil, gas, electrics, general bodywork and interior etc.

We received a call (just as we were heading out for him to road test it) cancelling the sale because of a cracked plastic rear light trim and small plastic side trim, which I had photographed and notified CarWow/Vanlux about prior to it going up for sale to ensure they were aware before bidding/buying.

Vanlux’s excuse was they now didn’t want it as they’d have to repair or replace the plastic trim cover and weren’t interested in doing so - despite initially agreeing to buy it knowing it had this extremely minor cosmetic damage. There is absolutely no damage to the chassis or body panels whatsoever and the rest of the vehicle is virtually spotless! We are only selling to downsize as the kids are no longer interested in coming along - we are certainly not trying to ‘get rid’ because there’s anything mechanically or structurally wrong with the vehicle.

They even had the audacity to use all my own photos to advertise it on their website prior to collection (whilst we are still the full legal owners as no monies or deposit had been paid). Vanlux was intending to try and get £60,000 for the vehicle (which is more than a 34% markup) while wanting to do no (or minimal) prep work on it before they cancelled their bid of £44,400!

Wasted our time when we could have advertised elsewhere. This is a company expecting to buy a 4.5 year old motorhome that’s done just 16,000 miles at a low trade price but wanting it to be in brand new condition to flog on at a huge margin - absolute jokers!

As I’m a decent person I offered the driver a lift back to the airport even though he saw our frustration and clearly thought he was probably going to have to make his own way back to Aberdeen to catch a flight home after the way his boss curtailed the sale agreement. He was really apologetic and I reaffirmed it wasn’t his fault in any way.

All in all a very stressful experience for my wife and I in addition to being a huge waste of our time on her day off and all while I was feeling extremely unwell.

A great experience

It’s always a risky business buying a vehicle online, especially a top of the range expensive model. Add to that, the company is at the other end of the country. But I needn’t have worried. Anchor Cars were courteous and helpful from the go, sorting all the MoTs and assessing and repairing any faults prior to delivery. The vehicle was delivered the 220 miles on a Sunday by Steve B, who kept me up to date on progress throughout the journey. All in all, highly recommended.
