I had a terrible experience with…

I had a terrible experience with Triodos. I opened an account based on the positive reviews and expected it to work well compared to my building society account. At first, everything seemed fine — I deposited small amounts and made small transfers to my other bank accounts without any issues.

However, as soon as I deposited £20,000 and tried to transfer it to another savings account, Triodos blocked the transaction. They claimed it was to protect me from scams and for my own security, but in reality, they simply held my money and wouldn’t let me use it.

Avoid Triodos at all costs — they make it extremely difficult to access your own funds.

Finally I feel confident in my bank and its ethics! Triodos communicates clearly and transparently, and hearing about the many amazing organisations and businesses they work with fills me with hope for humanity; people doing things differently, positively and collaboratively.

Best customer service I've ever…

Best customer service I've ever received in nearly 60 years banking! On the rare occasions I need to ring Triodos, they pick up within 2 minutes, are always courteous, and able to answer my queries

I feel very privileged to have been…

I feel very privileged to have been able to see our Triodos Manager giving his wonderful interview. I was in tears because I had to remove my current account with Triodos because of fraud and feel that it is still too dangerous to return, which I'd love to do. I am so pleased to see you are doing a lot to help children, but as an 'oldie' - and there are many of us - I'd like to suggest that maybe Triodos would consider investing in the elderly as well. A lot of the Retirement schemes are I fear, are exploiting the elderly. Because I personally now need to go and live in a community such as these schemes provide, I have been exploring them, but cannot say I trust them. Do Triodos support any of these schemes - ie McCarthy Stone, Churchill and others ? Or can you recommend any of them to me to see if they would suit me? As I always say - keep up the good work! Thank you from my heart for all you are doing.

They invest in a sustainable future

They invest in a sustainable future. A real person answers the phone helpfully when I call them, after a 5-10 minute wait. (The music quality could be better on the wait, but they keep me updated with where I am in the queue.) They keep me informed about scams.

A solid and ethical bank, but room for improvement

Overall, Triodos is pretty decent. They offer ethical banking through an app which is still a little clunky but has kept up with what I've needed it for. Sending or receiving money can take a little longer than mainstream banks, but it always gets to where it needs to go. My bank card doesn't always work, for example in trying to deposit money at the post office or trying to transfer money into my lottery account, which is a little frustrating, but the biggest issue I've found is that I can't make payments to credit cards with other banks, I've had to set-up a 'bridge' account with another bank to transfer money into the make the necessary payments. I've also found I can't link my accounts with third-party apps, such as clearscore.

They do indeed charge £3 a month for the current account, but this was clearly disclosed and explained in the account opening process.

As for the interest rates they offer on their savings accounts and fixed-rate accounts, they're pretty decent, not the best, but not the worst either.

None of these things are bad enough that I'd consider leaving Triodos just yet, but there's certainly room for some improvements. Perhaps I'm just used to mainstream banks and the unethical (but efficient) services they offer! On the balance of things, I'd rather keep my money with Triodos and suffer these small inconveniences.

Unfortunately the Triodos current account is designed to be online and so you won't be able to use the Post Office for over the counter services. There are various other ways in which you can pay money/cheques into your account, the details of which can be found in our FAQs page: https://www.triodos.co.uk/faq/do-you-have-your-own-branch-network-or-an-agreement-with-the-post-office?id=e4c1d7e5cc6f.

We're sorry to hear that you've had to set up a bridge account with another bank to make the necessary payments. In order to diagnose this issue and see if there is a solution, please could I request that you either send us a chat message in the mobile banking app by going to 'More' then 'Help', or by logging in Internet Banking. Or can you give us a call via 0330 3550 355.

With regards to linking your accounts with third party apps, Clearscore would need to work with us to open this feature and initiate it. We have information for developers who want to use open banking here: https://www.triodos.co.uk/open-banking-developers

A truly ethical bank

A trustworthy bank who use my money for the greater good, whether that's investing in community energy schemes, electric bus fleets, playschemes for children with disabilities or solar and wind schemes.
The bank is ethical in everything they do, from the way their Bristol office runs, to the products and services they offer.

Triodos is now in partnership with genocide enabling Google. Project Nimbus provides cloud data services, including AI to the Israeli government and military. I can no longer recommend Triodos.

As with all of the suppliers that we work with, Google has passed Triodos Bank’s due diligence and selection process. By introducing Google Pay, which we know is important to many of our customers, we can help make sustainable banking simpler and more accessible for both existing and new customers – aiming to grow our community of people choosing to bank sustainably.

We do not have an ongoing partnership with Amazon. We have occasionally run advertising campaigns on Amazon Prime, which again are aimed at continuing to grow our community and awareness of sustainable banking. Please be assured that we take all of our decisions on who to work with very seriously.

The best Ethical Bank Account and Financial Products in the UK today.

I’ve had very good service, good communication and clear and helpful customer service when ever I’ve needed it. The banking app works really well as does the online banking service. Their security is second to none which gives me peace of mind. This is all backed up with the knowledge that it is an ethical company run by people who obviously really care about the most important issues of our time.

Really easy to use

Really easy to use, ethical bank. Used the account mainly as a bills account with joint party, so never had a lot of interaction from a service perspective.

Very poor experience

Very poor experience. I forgot my password and instead of being able to re-set it online I had to wait a week for them to send me a temporary password through the post. In this day and age, that's quite ridiculous. I then went to close my account and they asked for a lot of information in online chat about account number (I only have the one account) and nominated account (which they already had on file). Took over 5 minutes to reply each time I gave them the unnecessary information again. Quite frustrating. Wont use Triodos again.
