After a long legal battle I’m finally free of Toyota

I bought a brand new white Yaris on finance in July 2024.

The very first issue I had with Toyota was the fact that the first month they charged me for both my old & new car. When I noticed and call them they said “we’ve noticed this and told the finance company”. Yet the idiots didn’t think to inform me. It took them over 2 weeks to return my money and no, no one thought to discuss this with me. What a terrible customer service. Did they think I wouldn’t notice? It only got worse from there.

Within a few weeks the issues began and they NEVER stopped.

The apple CarPlay wouldn’t connect or break the connection randomly, same for android auto.

The reverse camera broke & had to be replaced (so soon after the purchase of a BRAND new car), even then the broken icon would appear sometimes.

The whole radio unit had to be replaced (within less than 5 months of buying this BRAND NEW car). Either there would be no sound or it’ll get stuck on 1 service station. Sometimes the whole system would freeze and I wasn’t able to do anything.

The map system wouldn’t work properly and the map would lag about 30 seconds behind on the car while my phone was perfectly on time.

The traction control turned itself off while driving and kept showing me warning sign. Keri, the service manager, told me it’s not a big deal, I had to push for him to take the car in to make sure it’s ok. Because apparently if it’s unsafe it wouldn’t go over 30 mph. Definitely something I’d like to try on a motorway. Literally a recipe for a disaster.

Bluetooth would turn off so I wasn’t able to connect my car.

How many times have I visited Toyota and wasted my time over and over and over again making a 16 mile round trip while having a full time job for them to “fix it”.

“We just got a new update maybe it’ll work” was said to me TOO many time. Even if it worked, which I DIDN’T do you seriously sell cars SO bad that customers have to come for monthly updates?

They had no idea what to do with the car so they kept trying this updates. Which I’m not even convinced they did.

This went on and on and on. And it didn’t matter how many times they looked at it, tried it, updated it. It didn’t matter that they kept my car for a WHOLE WEEK, it didn’t matter that I had a new update a day before because the next morning I was back to square one. They couldn’t fix the car, there is an issue with it they themselves don’t understand and nothing they do or try fixed is.

I spent ages arguing with Toyota, calling them (and they NEVER answer)*, recording videos (when I was able to) of the same NEVER ending issues. I shared those videos with Keri and Tara but NOTHING ever changed.

*it got to the point that when I called from my phone it rings and NO ONE ever answers, but when I called from my wife’s phone I’ll get the “welcome to toyota” and different options. This was the only way I was able to sometimes get through to them. Even then they didn’t bother.

They constantly went with “we couldn’t replicate the issues” which wasn’t true they did some times. Also they had at least 50 videos of the issues

Before a year of this never ending issues, I told them I want partial refund bc the car is not preforming as it should. I contacted the finance, I waited, wrote letters and eventually they offered me £100 as “a gesture of good will” because I was never left immobile.

Not only was this a complete joke because they very much advertise the car with all its features (Apple CarPlay) but also if a (eg) a boot door broke I would still be able to drive the damn car but it wouldn’t be acceptable. They’re are many ways in which the car can have faults but I still wouldn’t be left immobile.

So I went to citizen advice and followed their steps writing an official letter etc. and that’s when they replied offering me £25. Yep couldn’t even stick to their original offer and said that after 30 days I’m responsible to fix it myself. Except it had 5 year warranty.

So off to the financial ombudsman service it went and of course I won. “Toyota has not acted fairly” the investigator wrote in his decision to them and “issues don’t don’t on command”

So now not only do they have to take this car back, pay me distress, return my deposit, pay me some money back for my monthly payments and pay interest on all the money I paid.

I’ve never dealt with more incompetent, incapable and dishonest people. I am so glad that my journey with Toyota is over and really look forward to NEVER dealing with them again.

Toyota, you lost a long term customer, your staff, cars, services are an absolute joke and it shows based on how BAD your reviews are.

Shocking lack of service and accountability. A carefully orchestrated scam for a £210 tyre, ending in malicious vehicle damage.

I am utterly appalled by the deceptive and vindictive behaviour of Listers Toyota Coventry, specifically Service Manager Ryan Lee. My experience proves they are willing to use high-pressure scare tactics and even sabotage a customer’s vehicle to force an unnecessary sale.

The Setup:
On March 4th, I took my 2023 C-HR in for an MOT. After driving just 2 miles home (a journey of less than 10 minutes with no unusual noises), the TPMS warning light came on the next day. I found a pristine, un-worn screw in the tyre. After I emailed to complain, Ryan Lee replied, stating that because the car had left their premises, they accepted zero responsibility.
Common sense dictates that a slow puncture from a nail takes time to drop the PSI enough to trigger the warning light—hence it illuminated the next day. The light being off when I drove away does not mean the screw wasn’t already there. This raises two major questions: If the nail was there before the MOT, how did the car pass? If it happened after, how can he be 100% certain I picked it up on a smooth 2-mile drive home? Are customers expected to bring a jack and a professional mechanic to inspect their vehicle upon collection?
After I escalated the complaint to Head Office, Ryan Lee called me and offered to ‘attempt’ a puncture repair. However, he suspiciously laid the groundwork for a sale by stating: ‘We can’t guarantee it can be fixed, and if not, you’ll have to pay for a new tyre.’
The £210 Scare Tactic:
On March 10th, I returned for the repair. Ryan Lee handed me the extracted screw, claiming his massive workshop doesn’t use this type of screw (which is frankly unbelievable). He then told me the tyre was ‘actively leaking’ and unrepairable, demanding I pay £210 for a new one.
He used high-pressure scare tactics, claiming my car was ‘dangerous to drive’. While I hesitated, he added further pressure, saying the mechanic was about to finish his shift and I needed to make a decision immediately. I refused and said I would seek a second opinion.
Less than two minutes after driving away, the TPMS light turned itself off. I strongly suspect their technician made a rookie error (failing to warm up the tyre or reset the system) and the light was never on for a valid reason that day. I went home intending to check the pressure myself with my inflator, only to discover the valve cap had been completely sealed shut.
Malicious Damage:
In retaliation for me refusing the £210 quote, they deliberately over-tightened and seized the metal TPMS valve cap on that exact tyre. They intentionally locked me out of my own tyre, making it impossible to check the pressure or inflate it.
Because of their sabotage, I felt incredibly anxious and unsafe. From March 4th to 14th, I drove only 18 miles and was forced to pay for Ubers because I dared not drive the car.
The Proof of Their Lie:
From the moment I left their forecourt on March 10th until today (March 14th), the TPMS light has NEVER come on. The tyre is not leaking at all. Their ‘dangerous bubbling leak’ diagnosis was a complete fabrication. A genuine severe leak would trigger the light well within 72 hours.
Furthermore, today I took the car to an honest, local independent garage (Herald Way Tyres). They confirmed the valve cap had been severely crushed on. They safely forced it open, replaced the caps for free, and confirmed my tyre is perfectly fine. I cannot praise this independent garage enough.
Listers Coventry tried to scam me, failed, and maliciously damaged my valve cap out of spite. When I issued a final complaint about this, Ryan Lee had the audacity to blame the fact that I used metal valve caps, claiming they ‘seize naturally’. He offered to try and open it but stated he would ‘not be responsible if the sensor snaps and I would have to pay to replace it’. Another trap? He constantly deflects all responsibility.
To my absolute shock, Toyota GB Head Office replied stating they had investigated and the dealership had acted ‘in line with company standards’, blindly supporting them. Do not trust this dealership. They will create problems to sell you solutions.
My car is still under warranty, and I have a replacement side mirror on order with them. However, I am now too terrified to let them touch my car again, rendering my warranty practically useless. I cannot guarantee what ‘new problem’ will magically appear next time, knowing this company will wipe their hands of any responsibility.
I am not an unreasonable customer. Had I driven for half a day or 20 miles after the MOT, I would have accepted the puncture without complaint. But less than 2 miles? And to have the dealership wash their hands of it completely is utterly unacceptable.

Warranty not covering

I’m honestly extremely disappointed with Toyota.

I paid a lot of money for this car, expecting reliability and peace of mind. One of the main reasons I chose Toyota was their big selling point — the 10-year warranty. Otherwise, what’s the point of paying for a new car?

Recently my steering wheel started making a very loud noise, so I took the car to the dealership. Initially they confirmed there was an issue and said the steering system would need to be replaced. But then I was told the warranty wouldn’t approve the repair.

So let me get this straight — the dealership acknowledges there’s a problem with the steering system, but the warranty that supposedly protects customers won’t cover it? Why advertise a 10-year warranty if it doesn’t actually cover important faults?

On top of that, it took multiple phone calls and chasing just to even get to this point. The whole process has been frustrating and exhausting.

And here’s the kicker: if I wanted to sell the car back to them, they’d obviously offer less money because the car has an issue… yet the warranty refuses to fix that same issue. How does that make any sense?

Very poor service and a really disappointing experience overall.
If you’re considering Toyota because of the warranty, think twice.

Absolute shower of uselessness

Absolute shower of uselessness. I am on my 13th Toyota, and to say my CHR is the worst I have ever had is the understatement of the century. I have had it back several times to the dealer for numerous reasons but as the faults are random they can’t fix them. I can’t eat for the 3 years to be up so I can get rid of this horrific car. Can you tell it is driving me to distraction, literally.

Safety issues with the Rav4

I am about to spend 29k to purchase a Toyota Approved Rav4 (21 Reg) however I am aware that Toyota has a safety recall for the Rav4 in respect of the 2 HP cables which connect to the batteries under the floor, these cables can corrode causing hybrid system failures.

I have had it confirmed by a Toyota dealer that this recall applies to the RAV4 I want to buy.
My brother has a Rav4 (21 Reg) which comes under this recall and requires new cables. The dealer has stated that if the cables fail when driving then you will come to a complete stop, the car will not start and you will require uplift of the car by the AA. This is a SAFETY recall, if the car does come to a halt on a busy road or motorway then the driver and occupants are at serious risk. My brothers car has been at his local Toyota dealership since December and is still waiting on repair as no replacement cables are available and are on back order with Toyota. He has been told by the Toyota dealership that they don’t know when these cables will be available and that it could be weeks or even months before new cables arrive and the car is repaired. As the car is deemed unsafe to drive it remains at the Toyota dealer until it can be repaired.
As the car I am purchasing is Toyota Approved then it is reasonable to expect that not only has it completed the required 145 point approval checks but it should also be in compliance with the requirements of the Toyota Safety recall and be safe to drive. I do not believe it is the dealers fault that Toyota cannot provide the spares to comply with their own Safety Recall and it cannot be right that a car can be Approved by Toyota whilst having a fault which could put both driver and passengers at risk. I would hope that Toyota would put safety first.
When spending 29k I would not then expect a Toyota Approved car to sit in a Toyota dealer for months waiting for the spares to fix a fault that was known to Toyota prior to sale.
On the Toyota website under Safety Recalls Toyota state “We place the highest importance on your safety and peace of mind” I am asking Toyota to live up to their own values, take responsibility and ensure that the car i wish to purchase is safe and to give me peace of mind that it will not breakdown, something that I don’t have at this time.

I am very keen to purchase this RAV4 and am happy to work with Toyota to find a solution to this issue but have found it impossible to speak to anyone. I am happy to discuss with anyone at Toyota to resolve this matter with the objective that the car meets Toyota standards for approval, quality and safety which will then allow me to complete the purchase.

I await feedback from Toyota.

Regards

Car Service but no customer service!

I have been using Stephen Eagell Toyota at St Albans for a few years. The sales guys are good but the servicing is shocking. I told them about a beeping sound when the car is moving. One of the less intelligent mechanics said it was something rattling around in my boot! I phoned this morning because my tyre pressure light came on. It doesn’t tell you which tyre is the problem. I tested the pressure. All fine. I was told they can’t look at it today but pop in another day. I called again to book it in but was told to go to Halfords or Quikfit! I asked why the light would come on if the pressure is fine. He said “I don’t know. I don’t drive the car”! I’ll be going elsewhere from now on.

Toyota 12v battery problem

Similar Toyota 12v battery problem as outlined by other reviews. Flat for no obvious reason other than the battery being inadequate for the vehicle's needs 3 times for a car less than 3 years old. The AA when attending the breakdowns were well aware of the problem as a Toyota design flaw. The last time my wife was stranded in the dark and missed an important work event. Toyota seem not to have learned lessons from previous reputation harming episodes. Considering whether a small claims court action may be viable to include the missing of the work event and even distress of an unnecessary breakdown in the dark.

Poor Customer Support

The vehicle itself (RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid) has been excellent, but my experience with Toyota UK Customer Support has been disappointing.
We raised a genuine real-world usability issue with official Toyota side steps that were already fitted to a showroom vehicle. They regularly caught clothing when getting in and out, making everyday use awkward.
Despite explaining that this was not a chosen accessory and that the issue related to practicality rather than misuse or damage, Toyota UK stuck rigidly to policy and closed the matter without offering any goodwill support.
This response fell short of the level of customer care I expected from Toyota UK, particularly given how reasonable and specific the concern was.

AVOID Toyota Solihull

I strongly advise avoiding Toyota Solihull (Steven Eagell). My friend, Nabeel Younus, recently had an incredibly frustrating experience at this branch, and it is clear that their customer service is severely lacking. From poor communication to a general lack of professionalism, this location has proven to be unreliable. Save yourself the headache and avoid this branch at all costs.

I brought my car at the beginning of December 2025

I brought my car at the beginning of December from Currie Motor Kingston and although the service was great to begin with, I am now not happy. I have now called 3 times and emailed three times to ask for something in writing about the warranty- it would only be a one sentence email but I just want it in writing that if I go to a non-Toyota garage, the warranty still lasts for 3 years if they use Toyota parts for the service. I have even spoken to the manager Zuzana and have not received a response despite her guaranteeing that she would send me the email.

I also am querying my rearview camera- the position has changed whereby I can now see half of my number plate and although the manager checked with the garage team, they said that it's normal and the position of the camera has changed, but I'm not sure why this has happened, especially as it happened just 2 days after buying the car.

Not at all impressed with them, considering I am a repeat customer, don't think I will be going back in the future.

Toyota yaris 2024 HEV be prepared if…

Toyota yaris 2024 HEV be prepared if not doing a lot of milage or not in use for a couple of days to have 12v battery problems they have fitted a 35 ah and would ideally need a 45ah battery.
In Poland this as been rectified by upgrading their testing of the battery and replacing. BUT NOT IN UK so I understand.
Mine shows 11.90v according to AI the battery is failing but shows good when tested at the dealership.
Contacted toyota uk customer services and seems like I got a generic response.
Try tricle charging etc,the car is around 18m old and it needs a battery charger.
Looking around this problem looks prevalent and toyota do not want to know.

We are sharing our experience as Toyota…

We are sharing our experience as Toyota RAV4 owners following our interaction with Toyota and its authorised network.

Our Toyota RAV4 was stolen silently, despite all keys being in our possession.
The alarm did not even go off.

When purchasing and servicing this vehicle through Toyota, we trusted the brand’s claims around safety and security. Experiencing such a serious security failure has been extremely distressing.

For a vehicle at this price point, this level of theft vulnerability is unacceptable and has severely damaged our confidence in Toyota and its products.

Toyota – when procedure matters more than the customer

The vehicle was regularly serviced within the official Toyota network.
During a scheduled service, abnormal noise from the drivetrain area was reported and acknowledged by the service center. However, any diagnostic work was refused solely based on a formal service-interval interpretation, without a written report, technical analysis, or cost estimate.
Shortly after the service, the defect fully materialized and worsened. Despite early reporting, full documentation, and multiple escalation attempts, Toyota Croatia rejected any warranty consideration or goodwill, relying exclusively on procedure and refusing a proportional or technical review.
Final outcome: approx. €2,500 paid by the customer, with zero accountability from Toyota.
This experience showed a clear lack of customer-oriented judgment.
Procedure was prioritized over facts, dialogue, and brand responsibility.
After this experience, I would not purchase or recommend Toyota again.

I have a Toyota Corolla 2012 with a 1.4…

I have a Toyota Corolla 2012 with a 1.4 diesel engine, it is called the d4d. The car has driven only 180,000 km and in this time first the starter of the car failed, then there is a problem with the suspension and to get to that part which is needed to be changed there is a need to take out half of the parts in the front of the engine. There is even problem even to change the bulbs in the front lights you can't even change it by yourself. You have to take out many details to reach the bulb. I have owned many different cars from Hyundai from Honda from Mazda from Suzuki from Audi, but never did I ever have this trouble even to change a bulb of the car. This is extremely unpractical car and it has been really overrated. Anyhow I had issue with the gearbox of the car because on the third gear the car was not picking up the gear if I would accelerate really hard. I took it to the Toyota service here in Latvia Riga and it is called as the wess motors , while I took it to them the car was normally running on the first and second I had problem on the 3rd gear however after giving it for diagnostic it started having problem even for the first kid that means that they did something to the car which destroyed even the little bit of strength it had in terms of its gears. Toyota is the most overrated car in the world, it's worse it rusts it has the worst suspension it can't take cold weather I live in Latvia and this car is a failed car in this in this country. I hope that this my review will reach those mafias who are running this scam. Asians cannot make automatic gearboxes. If you want an automatic gearbox go for a European car. Get a real automatic gearbox not a cheap Asian version which is called as a robotic gearbox because they are the worst. Beware Toyota is the worst God I have ever driven in the past 40 years of my life

Please 🙏 don't buy

I am writing this review to share my very disappointing experience with Toyota.
I bought my Toyota a few months ago for around 22,000, and I am paying for this car over 5 years, which is a very large financial commitment. On top of that, the insurance costs are extremely high. Unfortunately, I only found out later that the insurance is so expensive because this model is very easy to steal.
Just two weeks after I bought the car, it was already stolen. The theft takes only a few seconds – the car can be broken into and dismantled very easily. I managed to locate the car myself, about 1 km away from me in London, which is shocking in itself.
What is even more frustrating is that Toyota is aware of this problem, but does nothing to improve the security or prevent these thefts. There is no real solution offered to customers, no meaningful action, and no responsibility taken.
On top of that, the police did nothing, and I have had to deal with this situation more than once. The stress, time lost, and financial impact are huge.
If anyone ever asks me for my opinion about Toyota or this model, I will always mention what happened to me:
– the car was stolen multiple times
– the security is very poor
– insurance is extremely expensive
– no real help from Toyota or the authorities
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this car, despite the money I invested in it.
Thank you for reading.
