Non-Existing Support, Stay Away from TopMaq

I helped a colleague assemble a Terkkin Premium Garden Shed. He didn’t plan to leave a review, so I’m sharing this for him.

The advertised 2-hour assembly time is unrealistic unless you’ve built it before. Instructions were limited, and there’s no official installation video. Finding one under a different product name halfway through helped, but it still took us a full day (we’re both hands-on tradies).

The shed feels quite sturdy once assembled, so the end result was good. However, both air vent covers were missing, leaving gaps.

My colleague contacted support the next day. After multiple emails over 10+ weeks, including delays blamed on Chinese New Year; there was no resolution, and the final message was ignored. It was clear that Caleb from their support wasn't interested in fixing the issue.

He will file a complaint with the Commerce Commission shortly.
I’d avoid TopMaq, Trade Tested sells similar products and has far better customer support.

WARNING: Cheap Materials & Catastrophic Failure- DO NOT BUY!

I purchased a hydraulic tipping trailer for nearly $5,000, and after just one week of light use (hauling partial loads of dirt), it is now a piece of junk sitting on my property.
The quality of materials used is shockingly poor. After only seven days, three of the wheels have bent, the wheel studs have completely stripped, and the mounting holes on the rims have ovaled out. I had a certified Professional Engineer and a reputable local mechanical service company inspect the damage. Their professional assessment confirmed that the steel used for the rims is far too thin—essentially two thin pieces of steel pressed together—which is clearly where they are cutting costs to offer a lower price.
When I reached out for help, the customer service was appalling. Instead of standing by their product, they used every excuse in the book to "guilt-blame" us, claiming it was an assembly error despite the fact that a certified engineer put it together. They even tried to argue that the catastrophic failure of the metal was "normal wear" for a one-week-old trailer.
To make matters worse, the trailer delivered wasn't even the color advertised in the listing (it’s a cheap-looking silver instead of black), and the welding quality is visibly subpar.
If you are looking for a trailer that actually works and a company that provides decent after-sales support, look elsewhere. This company sells faulty equipment and then hides behind technical jargon to avoid their legal obligations under the Consumer Guarantees Act. You get what you pay for—in this case, $5,000 worth of scrap metal.
Avoid at all costs!

Absolutely terrible

Absolutely terrible! I purchased a trailing sprinkler in December. It arrived with a badly kinked hose attaching it to the drum which meant it didn’t work. I was told to take it to the Christchurch store, which I did in January. I was told it needed to go to the workshop to be looked at. Its currently March and no response from Topmaq. I have made 2x 2 hour return trips to the store, I have received assurances someone will call and still nothing. I have tried calling and keep getting excuses that the manager is at lunch, the managae is on another call, the manager is not available. Buyer beware! My next step is going to the disputes tribunal. It's the principal!

I have brought a few cordless tools and things from Topmaq and have found the quality to be excellent . Like everything you buy sometimes something goes wrong ,I contacted the support team and it would have be the easiest place to deal with, send a little video of problem and a new one on its way, in less than 24 hours(with proof of purchase of course)that's customer service

Happy with Tomaq, NOT delivery??

Happy with Tomaq, but very unhappy with your delivery company, over 2 wks now and counting?? due to driver not doing their job and finding our address which is clearly shown on letter box at SH 35 and gate up shared driveway, you said they said the they spoke to people at the address?? no they did not, nore did they contact us or topmaq earlier for non delivery??, not worth the $ 224.50 delivery fee.
Thanks Topmaq for fast dispatch BUT thumbs down to PBT (driver) for slack effort.

Christchurch store is terrible

Christchurch store is terrible. Tryed denying warranty on a pump they sell as “a dirty water pump” for having signs it had been used in dirty water. It was like a scripted how to avoid paying warranty yarn from the staff. Have shopped with topmaq a lot over the years but will never buy anything from them again. Very disappointing to see how the Christchurch store staff/service has declined so quickly,

Platinum pro 310 x 110mm Pneumatic wheel.

Unfortunately the item ordered was no longer available, (as shown, heavy duty bearings) however a replacement was sent, (flanged bearing) The replacement bearings would not however suit the task.

On contacting Topmaq, they were very helpful in all aspects of queries and unfortunately could not offer a solution as that bearing type was no longer available.

As the Christmas holidays followed from receipt of items, further communications were delayed til early January 2026. No problem on my part was experienced.

Thank you for your timely responses.

Topmaq are great

Topmaq are great. I'm not a frequent visitor but when I am it's because they have exactly what I need with no frills or huge brand names at fantastic prices. the stuff they sell is always very solid and great quality. Staff are always ready to help and nothing is too much trouble.

However, one thing put a cloud over the whole experience and is absolutely no reflection on Topmaq directly. That is, their choice of Couriers. While I'm sure that PBT is overall a very good company, unfortunately, the branch in Palmerston North is a shambolic example of very bad customer service. Their tracking system showed my item as "Out for delivery" at 0859 hrs on Weds 14th. Because of the size and weight of this item, I waited in for two and a half days during which there was not one attempt by them to contact me. Eventually after two interventions on my behalf from PBT customer services, it arrived with one small guy on a huge truck from another local transport company with no lifting equipment. Between us we manage to get it to the ground. He acknowledged he would not have got it off on his own.

This is not even the first time this has happened. The last thing I bought from you (Towable mower), PBT Palmy put it on the wrong truck and I had a nightmare getting it to me. Please Topmaq, if you are sending stuff to the Manawatu, use any other couriers but PBT. My rating would have been five stars but for this blemish.

hanks though, I'm still gonna love my bike lift table.

Nordic Cordless 3/8 Ratchet Wrench

Well I had purchased a Nordic Cordless Ratchet Wrench 10 months ago. I use it occasionally at home working on my gear, a very worthwhile tool to have. Today I undid one nut & bolt and it worked fine. Two or three minutes later I picked it up to use again and it would not function. Put battery on charger for two hours, fitted back into tool and still no go. I phoned the Helpdesk at Topmaq and the young lady was so helpful. I took a video of what I had done and an explanation, sent it to them, then got a message to say they were sending a replacement. Absolutely no problems. It is great to deal with a company that treats you with respect as Topmaq have done today.

I've purchased a lot of Nordic items…

I've purchased a lot of Nordic items from Topmaq. Whenever I've picked them up from the Christchurch branch I've noticed there has appeared to be a large turnover of staff.
Today when I went into the store to claim a warranty for items that had malfunctioned I met the Christchurch store manager and now realize the issue which to me represented an atrocious attitude to a long serving customer.
I hope the Dunedin manager has a more approachable and customer centric attitude than what I experienced in the Christchurch branch

Not fit for purpose

Brought home the 72cc Havic chainsaw. Saw a secondhand one on marketplace for $100 and grabbed that too for spares. Engine went well but bar was shot and spreading at the tip and the chain didn't have enough adjustment to keep it on. Thought jeez the owner must've been rough. Anyway that weekend I opened up the box of the new one and assembled it. Wouldn't idle so was going to look at that after a quick test. Seemed to have plenty of power but after 10 minutes the chain was very loose. I stopped and tightened the chain. Topped up the gas with the recommended mix for the new saw and kept going but after 2 hours I'd spent more time tightening the chain than cutting wood. Frustrated I thought I'd return it after the weekend. It was terrible. Sunday I thought I'd have another go and persevered for nearly 4 hours which was half continually adjusting the chain tightness and cleaning the oil feed....as the tip didn't seem to be free. The day finished with the tip sprocket dislodging and jamming the chain.
I live rural and have 4 stihl saws. 2 16" ,1 18", and a newer 20 ". My family had a large firewood business in the 80s and 90s so I've grown up on saws.
I looked at the 24" havik because it came up on my Facebook feed and I'd been thinking of getting a bigger saw. I should have read topmaqs reviews first. Turns out they don't do returns or show any goodwill. The saw is rubbish and in this case you get what to pay for. A cheap saw.
A 100km round trip to return the saw and have them charge me for their technicians time to tell me it's user error...no thanks. It's going to the tip with spare saw with the same issue. It's last insult was the pull cord breaking. Never once had that happen on a stihl and one of mine is 30 years old.

Buyer beware

Buyer beware. Purchased a chainsaw that has multiple problems and now have to drop off and wait for them to decide if I pay or not. System is not to resolve issues quickly but to absolve their liability. Chain continually came loose and bar tip ate itself after less than 4 hours use. Poor quality. 100km round trip to return but had to turn around. You have to arrange a time to return. Laughable system
