Cofepic/Epic Course/Training
The reason I didn't give it 5 stars will follow bellow.
The COFEPIC training it's an amazing experience...with very good actors that portray what in real life situations, could different hazardous scenarios be, in regards to health & safety. All that, applies on any of the Tideway sites along the 25km Super Sewer, and obviously the prevention of such scenarios.
As this was my last course before starting work the next day(30/09), I was a bit nervous overall...as I'm never 100% confident I will pass.
After our sweet & 'healthy' breakfast...the Tideway team kindly helped us to get our documents checked for the start of the test...which includes a series of 10 health & safety related questions. Pass mark was 80%...and I got 70%, and here is where the issue arose.
The purpose of the whole course/training is health & safety...and one of the main pillars of H&S is effective communication. After finishing my test the person supervising us clicked on the PDF page of the computer I was sitting to display the results...failing to tell me that because I didn't have a pass mark, I should communicate this back to my employer ASAP, in order for the actual test to be re-booked. But instead I was just allowed to carry on finishing the whole training day without being made aware(in my opinion) of an important detail(clearly a flaw here).
The next day just as I have been instructed by one of my main contacts...after the yesterday training, I went to the main Tideway site to pick up my card and go start my first day of work.
Arrived there early in the morning...to be told(to my surprise) by the reception's personnel that I should speak with my main contact/s in regards to my results.
I called one of my main contacts...that told me I was supposed to let them know immediately after, that I didn't pass...but as stated above I wasn't AWARE of such action being necessary, considering I was allowed to continue.
I failed one question...and maybe the most important one...but Tideway COFEPIC training centre failed at EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION.
Lack of proper/effective communication can create hardship for communities, companies etc...with a domino effect of negative consequences on life.
If this is how we learn then let's take a deep breath...and improve communication.
