I love that I’m learning at my own…
I love that I’m learning at my own pace, because I have two full-time jobs already. I also like my instructor(Meagan) a lot she has good feedback. The first three projects were very fun for me. I learned a lot. I got to use me artistic side. 4 and 5 were definitely a lot harder. I wish that advanced modules weren’t so expensive as I definitely need to take a sketch up class. The you tube videos are not enough. i’m very grateful for the Facebook page as I found that to be a very resourceful.

“Discovering what I'm capable of in Design"
“Modules 1, 2, and 3 were a mind-altering experience in design and helped me discover what I’m capable of achieving creatively. Module 4 was definitely a software challenge for me, and YouTube became my tutor while learning the technical side of the programme. I was very pleased to achieve a high mark in the end.
I have now completed Module 5 and am currently working on Module 6, which is exciting because I can see my confidence and design skills continuing to grow.

Students are welcome to explore the software if they wish, but they can also complete their work through hand-drawn designs and sketches if that approach feels more comfortable.

Self directed
I appreciate the self- directed nature of this program. The way the course content is delivered, the tutor and direct messaging system, and the flexibility are all positives in my experience.
However, Module 4 was completely disappointing. I was able to complete the module thanks to Alyssa Nga on Youtube and her step by step videos about using the design software 'SketchUp' for the IDI Module 4. I think it is The Interior Design Institute's responsibility to teach students how to use interior design software as we are paying for an education. I think this is a major gap in the course content.

While students are welcome to learn and use software tools such as SketchUp throughout their studies, these are entirely optional and not required for successful course completion. Assignments can also be completed by hand if preferred, allowing students the flexibility to work in a way that feels most comfortable and suitable for their learning style.
For those who would like additional guidance and wish to build their software skills further, we also offer an Advanced Module, which provides extra learning opportunities and support for students interested in developing these skills in more depth.

Lacks information
I love IDI don't get me wrong, but I feel like the modules lack a lot of useful information and the instructions aren't always 100% clear. For example Module 4 lacks a lot of measurements that are useful for when it comes to making a floorplan. I lost 3 points out of 10 because the module lacked information and in my opinion every module lacks information in some way. Another down is that the tutors take a while to answer which kind of puts you behind and sets you back when you are trying to complete a module quickly and in a timely manner. But at the same time IDI is helping me open my eyes and understand information, even majority might be a given already.

Passionate about design...
The interior design institute has been such an enjoyable studying experience. It is a lot of reading, which is to be expected with online study, but it is very easy to reach out to the tutors for assistance. The technical lingo can be difficult to understand at the beginning. I have struggled in some areas and excelled in others, but overall the structure is very easy to follow and I feel I am getting good value for money. Knowing CAD beforehand can be very beneficial but the course has been instrumental with teaching me in the ins and outs of SketchUp. I would recommend this course to anyone who is passionate about design.
The only improvement I could recommend would be more videos for those of us who are visual/audio learners over reading learners.
My favourite part has been learning the historical aspect of design and how it has influenced and continues to influence design choices.

Expanding my skill set
Expanding my skill set. Good amount of detail per module. Assignments are correctly done in order to challenge students, without being overwhelming, but not underwhelming and too easy. Amount of content manageable for a self paced course. Unless I missed it, as a student of the Institute, some free video content would be valuable instead of so much paid content over and above the course fee's. Ie: Some short video resources that are not part of the assignment but help and compliment each module, but only available on the IDI platform not on youtube. Something to guide us, but not have to pay more for.

We do currently have a couple of videos that accompany some of the modules, and we can see that you’ve already watched them — thank you for taking the time to explore those resources! We absolutely understand the value of having more complementary video guidance available within the platform, and it’s something we are actively working on creating more of for students in the future.
We also understand the additional fee for the live workshops. While these are optional, we do highly encourage them, as many students find them to be a really valuable and inspiring addition to their studies, with the opportunity to learn directly from industry professionals and interact with other students.

I like the content
I like the content and my tutor. My online teacher / reviewer is Fabulous! Her comments always sharp, accurate and I always learn something new.
What am I missing-
1 software guidance . I ended up using Rayon as could not get clear understanding of other software. And it seems complicated without the need to be. Still, im far from mastering it.
2 I cant yet comment in full, but something within the structure ( order id tge modules) was not clear to me.
3 I feel I miss ' hands on ' experience. Can I really submit plans to 3rd party? ( electrician? Plumber? Carpenter? ) not sure.
Aside of it, LOVE it ! Happy that i chose this course! I think I will continue with more in depth courses, once I feel i can master the various software

Software can definitely feel overwhelming at the beginning, especially when there are so many options out there and everyone seems to recommend something different. It’s great that you found Rayon and are continuing to work through it at your own pace. Many students feel exactly the same way in the beginning, and confidence with software really does build gradually over time.
Thank you as well for mentioning the module structure and order. That feedback is helpful for us, and we understand how frustrating it can feel when parts of the learning journey don’t feel fully clear yet.
Regarding your question about plans and working with third-party trades like electricians, plumbers, or carpenters, the course is designed to give you a strong foundation in creating and understanding design plans and concepts. In real professional settings, technical drawings and construction documents can sometimes require additional experience, local building knowledge, or licensed professionals depending on the project and location. So while the course absolutely helps build those skills and confidence, it’s completely understandable to still feel unsure at this stage. That feeling is very normal while learning.

I love the fact I can pick this up whenever I have some time. I am learning very useful, practical things to help me in the real world. I have taken advantage of completing some advanced modules as part of my study and will continue to add more. It is great to have access to these courses within the Institute so additional enrolments are not required- particularly if you want to specialise in certain areas of design.
