Great Company

Great projects allow you to pay in installments and give you a lot of information beforehand . They always answer questions if asked quickly by email . Their conservation goals are in line with my beliefs .

My Orangutan volunteering project

I have now done two voluntary projects with the great projects. I have found them to be very helpful, nothing has been too much trouble to ensure a smooth trip. The projects themselves have been amazing, again not disappointing. I cannot rate the great projects highly enough! I highly recommend if you want a guaranteed professional service

Very helpful team

Very helpful team from initial enquiry, through all the booking stages, right to the date of the trip. Answered any questions I had as best they could and were very quick in responding. Fortunately, I didn't need to contact anyone whilst away but I had the contact details if needed. Would definitely use The Great Projects again and would recommend to anyone considering a volunteering trip abroad.

The Greats Project provided an opportunity to engage with the complexity of wildlife conservation in Borneo

The Greats Project provided very helpful information about the volunteer project, working at Matang Wildlife Centre, and ensured that I was well connected with the people on the ground running the project in Borneo. They were also helpful when I had difficulty obtaining insurance that would cover me for volunteer work, which is difficult as an older adult - over 70. They were also available to answer the questions I had over the long period of time when I signed up to volunteer and actually travelled to Malaysia months later. I have recommended The Greats Project to people interested in volunteering on wildlife projects. The actual volunteer experience was wonderful - made new friends, meet extraordinary people seeking to make a difference to rescued animals in Sarawak, and learned about the complexity of conservation.

Visited Nyaru Menteng Orangutan…

Visited Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Sanctuary in March with my husband. Amazing experience!!! Worked with 4 other volunteers at just the right pace that you felt your contribution was valid but you didn’t get overwhelmed by the work. Steffan our co-ordinator / lead was lovely. Very knowledgeable and friendly including everyone in the various tasks. Melda a local lady working there with the volunteer groups was also very welcoming and interesting to work with and the freshly cooked food supplied by Muma Moaña was delicious. Was also great to be taken to the local markets and local places of interest an area not often seen by tourists. The Orangutan’s that we saw were out of this world, a truly awesome experience. The babies were particularly special to see. Well done to the work being done in helping the survival of this species. Can’t recommend enough to visit this Sanctuary. We will be volunteering at other locations following our experience with The Great Projects. If you visit check out the gift list as all contributions are so helpful.

I have just returned from Nyaru Menteng…

I have just returned from Nyaru Menteng Orangutang sanctuary in Borneo. WOW!! What a trip. It was well organised from start to finish (as a solo traveller attempting their first long haul flight, the staff were really helpful and supportive, with Mags and team suggesting flight routes and answering any queries promptly regarding blood tests and vaccines). Once there, the entire programme was well managed and varied-keeping you on the get go from the start with such an assortment of activities all focussing on improving the lives of the orphaned (or infirm) orangutans. All the staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and dedicated to the cause. Highly recommend to anyone-it's hot and sweaty but, oh so worthwhile!!!!

I also went to Coastal conservation week where you experience the stunning beauty of the coastline and the magnificent red dunes that cascade into the blue water . Awe inspiring

I gave been on two projects, samboji lestari volunteering with orangs and sun bears in September 2023, Uganda wildlife safari in February 2026.
Both have been awesome inspiring, especially Uganda for me, as since the famous Attenborough gorilla filming way back in 1978 I have wanted to see these magnificent beings in the wild, and this trip did not disappoint on any level, my bucket list complete
If it wasn't for The Great Projects I would not have had the most exhilarating time of my life. I have found with this company, the staff here and abroad go above and beyond. Communication , organisation, accommodation and experiences are second to none.
I would thoroughly recommend to go with this company, I myself am looking for my third trip with them
Don't procrastinate, book, have a wonderful time and even though it's a tiny bit you're putting back in, remember even a tiny bit makes a difference to our planet and the creatures we share it with.

Great organization, awesome experience

Many thanks to „the great projects“ team. I am very grateful and happy that I was able to take part in the Koskoda Turtle Conservation project together with my children. This experience exceeded all our expectations. We had the unique opportunity to witness baby turtles hatching up close. We were able to feed the sea turtles, help clean water tanks and collect litter from the beach.
Our absolute highlight was the release into the sea. Watching these tiny creatures every evening was a very special and deeply moving moment for all of us.
The moment when a green mother turtle came ashore to lay her eggs was at least just as magical.
A special thank also goes to Dudley and his entire team. You could really feel how much passion and dedication each individual puts into this project.
The food was plentiful, varied and absolutely delicious. We took part in this volunteer program for the first time, but definitely not for the last. As soon as the children Are old enough, we will join more projects! Next we would Like to combine the whale shark project with the Big Five…. Already looking forward.

Hi Manuela, thank you so much for your review!

We’re delighted to hear that your time at The Great Turtle Project exceeded expectations and created such special memories for you and your children. It’s lovely to hear this was your first volunteer experience and certainly not your last! The Mafia Island Whale Shark Project, combined with the Kariega ‘Big 5’ Conservation Project, sounds like an incredible next adventure, and we’d love to help you plan it when the time comes. Thank you again for taking the time to leave us a review.

The recommended project that I participated in was absolutely brilliant. 2 Thumbs Way up and if I had more thumbs, I put them way up too.

The project that was recommended was superior. Divers Azores went way beyond expectations. I would highly recommend them at every turn. Please keep representing them and sending them business.

I appreciated everything with the Great Projects as a referral, but it would’ve been very helpful to have closed the gap sooner with Dive Azores so that all of the information was synced between your organization and their business and delivered to the client well in advance so they can make the proper preparations.

I always believe with agency referrals that the companies are not only reliant on your services, but appreciate your services. There’s definitely a proper percentage/referral fee to be made. I think just be mindful to not feel jeopardized because that puts the client in the middle. I feel this definitely will build loyalty at a greater rate. My gut feeling is when a potential client feels or senses that disconnect they feel dismissed. It may be a factor that you’re actually losing business because of that.

We’re absolutely delighted to hear how highly you rate your experience with Dive Azores. They are a fantastic partner, and it’s great to know they exceeded your expectations. We’ve been very happy to support them since the beginning and will continue to do so.

We also really appreciate your honest feedback regarding the communication gap you experienced. Fine but expensive

The organization itself is great and I liked the communication before booking. How they shared their information online of the project wasn't fully correct. It really depends on the season when you're going and they didn't share that with me while booking. I specifically shared my wishes of work, but during my time in South Africa we did none of that.

They are also quite expensive. Please check the organization you want to volunteer at first, I paid around a thousand euros more for a month than I would've had at the organization itself.

When I shared my complaint with them they kind of waved it off with only a "We're sorry to hear that".

Hi Jinte, thank you for your honest and detailed feedback. We’re really pleased to hear that you valued the communication prior to booking, but we’re sorry that aspects of the project didn’t meet your expectations once you arrived. We will be reviewing how we communicate seasonal differences to ensure future travellers have a clearer picture before they commit.

We’re also sorry to hear that your concerns didn’t feel fully acknowledged when you raised them. That’s not the level of care we strive to provide, and we’ll be addressing this internally to improve how we handle feedback. If you would like to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to give us a call on +44 (0)208 885 4987 or email us at info@thegreatprojects.com.
