there free valuations aren't even close to being accurate
I was given a free valuation for my Jack Daniels whiskey collection. was emailed shipping labels and a link where I was to purchase the materials to ship my bottles in. shipping costs were never disclosed to me, and when my bottles sold, it was for half of the lowest price on the valuation they gave me, and then what I actually received for payment was $370.00 of the $1,007.00 they were sold at auction for. not much communication except for explaining that they are a commission based sales auction. and if I had any questions feel free to contact them. I have sent 5 emails, all with pretty much same response and left 2 messages for a manager to return my call. I would say they lie to you on the free evaluation to get you to send your bottles to them and once they sell, you have no other choice but to accept the little money they say they sold for.
BEWARE OF EXTORTIONATE STORAGE CHARGES
BEWARE OF EXTORTIONATE STORAGE CHARGES
As I recently learned to my detriment, The Grand Whisky Austion (TGWA) charges a storage fee of £2 per bottle, per day, once the period of free storage has expired. These charges took me completely by surprise and had already reached £82 (20% of the value of my order) when I went to arrange for the shipment of my bottles. I wrote to the company to express my shock and to ask if my unfamiliarity with this regulation might allow them to, as an act of kindness, reduce these fees on this occasion. After a few exchanges, it became clear that they were unwilling to do so, and of course, this is their prerogative.
What is less understandable (at least to me), is that they didn’t freeze the charges while we were discussing the situation, or at the very least, let me know that the charges would continue to mount until I paid them in full. In the end, I paid storage fees of £136 (or 35% of the total value of my order). Ultimately, my appeal to their humanity cost me an additional £54. As the TGWA Team (no one reveals names), so coolly put it, “it is not a case of being kind or friends. We are a business which needs to cover costs.” They also wished me a good weekend.
I realise that this situation can inspire different interpretations. Some of you (if anyone actually reads this), will be thinking “buyer beware” and how could anyone be so stupid and naïve. Others will, like me, be sickened by the waste of money and saddened that the generosity and kindness that is so often characteristic of the whisky community, is so completely lacking here. Whatever their take, I don’t think anyone can fail to be astonished by the unapologetic display of greed that my misfortune has inspired. And, finally, those with business sense will be wondering, customer service considerations aside, how on earth a company can survive if it costs them £2 a day to take care of the storage of one bottle of whisky.
For the record, I never proposed friendship to “The Greedy Whisky Auction” but I did tell them that I would share my TGWA experiences with my friends. With this review, I consider this job done, and I remain grateful that virtually all of my many, many whisky experiences have been so much better than this.

Read the terms and conditions thoroughly!
I've purchased numerous bottles through the grand whisky auction and have been very impressed. Very quick and safe delivery. I had an issue with one bottle which was quickly rectified.
I then thought I would use them to sell a number of bottles but certainly wouldn't recommend. It's my own fault for not thoroughly reading the terms and conditions but they charged me 21% total fee to sell which I think is outrageous considering they are also charging the buyer 12.5%.

I sent 7 bottles to auction here in…
I sent 7 bottles to auction here in January 2025. I believe I was selling in a reputable auction! After the auction I received a notification 4 bottles sold 3 were unsold. I asked for the 3 to be returned. Total price for the sold bottles was £156.00 I was deducted £42.00 registration fees £9.36 commission £9.00 1 reserve fee £15.00 postage fee. £19.00 return post
Total fees £94.36 fees balance £61.64
To my account from £156.00

I honestly feel like I’ve been hit over the head ! And had my money taken !
Not recommended ! Too many charges! That they don’t initially tell you about!
In regard to your clever reply !
It proves the attitude of your company
Isn’t to satisfy the customers!
But to defend your company’s business tactics!
Firstly I’d like to say that my review is factual!
As for my previous reviews! This is Trustpilot!
I feel compelled to write a review for a company, when the service I received I wasn’t pleased with. So that other people are warned of such companies that behave in the way yours does!
So of course they will be mostly negative! That’s the way you warn others. Personally I leave positive reviews on google !
I again add that I have only written
What is factual about my experience with your company’s hidden charges!
You try to defend your company’s clever tactics by mentioning 2 previous sales, both times you did not charge me for the postage? So I presumed you don’t charge! And furthermore it was never mentioned!
I now know it must have been because of the higher value of the items . So you received plenty of commission from the buyers. So must of decided not to charge me for postage, or mention it ?! But on this last occasion my bottles were of low value, you decided to add the postage charge plus the return charge, which you never mentioned before. So as to extract as much money as your greedy clever company can !!!

I found The Grand Whisky Auction to be…
I found The Grand Whisky Auction to be a reliable and efficient service for selling whisky. The process was straightforward, with helpful communication throughout, and the valuation was accurate, even exceeding expectations. Payment was fast, and free collection made things hassle-free. I would happily use them again for future auctions. Four stars!
Consistently fabulous service
The manner in which The GWA handled a recent issue - of my own making - was very professional. I have been using The GWA since 2019 and I have always found their service to be of the highest standard. They're easy to communicate with and very trustful. Here is to many more years of buying and selling whisky!
Wrote a review (gave 2 stars)
Wrote a review (gave 2 stars). At next auction found I was blocked from bidding. Contacted TGWA. A person I believe is one of the owners rang me and said if I removed the review he would reinstate my account. 4 months later still blocked so TGWA here is another review but only one star this time.
Do not bother to leave me blocked as I am unsubscribing from your auctions and buying my whiskey from someone who does not throw his toys from his pram.
