Friendliest, cleanest and best run gaming store I’ve visited

This store is a gem. It’s bright and clean, great tables and an amazing game library. Owner seems to be a total gent and very welcoming to new people. Good membership scheme and lovely that it’s licensed with a nice drink selection. Equally I’d feel happy taking my children there. I visit regularly and it’s the best in Norwich by far.

Best in Norwich

Best tabletop & board game place in Norwich. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good food and drink options. The Thursday night social is a great space for meeting up with other gamers and learning new games from the huge library. Always has a great buzz.

A gaming pleasure

Some friends and I went for a magic draft, have some beers. Absolutely loved it. The owner Kieran made sure we had enough tables and chairs, and the staff didn’t comment once on my special buddy who turned up in a dinner jacket, and asked for all of his drinks to be ‘shaken not stirred.’

Lack of accessibility

Myself and my partner spent a good 4 hours playing board games and had a wonderful time. However an issue arises with accessibility, as someone who is not disabled, I did not experience the possible adaptations that could be put in place eg. a portable ramp over stairs? However the bathroom is completely inaccessible and there is not an additional disabled toilet. There are no handrails, no way to maneuver to the toilet if a wheelchair user and no emergency cord. I spoke to staff about the issue and they awkwardly explained a lack of money, and vaguely mentioned that something's planned for May, which in no way solves the current issues. This issue makes a place that's designed for you to spend multiple hours in, inaccessible for disabled patrons. I thought this was worth sharing for someone who needs to plan for this.

Hello Ellen, thank you for your review and I am very sad to hear that you didn’t enjoy your experience.

To confirm, this last year has been extremely hard for some businesses, and we were one of them. We missed out on the initial grants and with 3k rent a month, and the cost of being caught between two units, I was forced to sell my home to keep the business going.

I did investigate ramps last year but unfortunately legislation would mean the ramp to get across the front steps would have to be 14ft in length, with 7ft of it going into Lower Goat Lane. Unfortunately as a listed building dating back to the 1700s (I believe it goes back that far) a lot of the buildings along Lower Goat Lane are very oddly shaped spaces. I also looked into a disabled access lift, however the cost I was quoted was over 10k and would require it to take over the entirety of the front window area, which we have seating for over 16 people in. There is no government assistance for this whatsoever.

For the disabled access toilets I have put up a sign saying this is a planned change. However, with debt from last year, a lot of our excess money is going into paying off that debt. A new Norwich City council scheme has come into place to assist building improvements for businesses and I actually had a meeting with a firm today about improving our toilet area, we are looking at at least 25k. It is my next big build out but first I need to endure our business is generating enough to pay my staff and pay off some of our debt each month.

One of my long term hopes is that we can change our Upper Goat Lane entrance into a secondary entrance into the venue. However this will require it to be offset into the building itself, another very costly move.

I apologise again that you didn’t enjoy your visit, but this year has been extremely hard for my business and me.

Kieran

A great local game store

I've only visited a few times but always impressed with the welcoming, friendly atmosphere.
Plenty of variety in games available, with the option of ordering other items if not in stock.
Will definitely visit again.

A great gaming venue

The Games Table is a great gaming venue. Kieran is welcoming and friendly. Since opening the Games Table has continued to improve; tables are getting better; selection of stock is growing. The hosting of Introductions and Demonstrations of games that have recently taken place can only help this thriving community to grow.

Great work Kieran. Keep it up!

A Really Excellent Game Venue and Store

A very friendly, welcoming place to browse, play or buy.

Kieran is always striving to improve the experience for his customers and to create a real community feeling, Regular events are hosted - a boardgames night, minis nights and RPGs open tables. Or you're welcome to just come and do your own thing.

Inclusivity is the watch-word - no-one needs to feel wary of coming in here because they're not a 'proper' gamer or for any other reason.

Wonderful

Owner is fab, the atmosphere is fab and the wide range of products to use/buy are fab. Kieran goes above and beyond in everything to do with the shop. For eg, right now he's holding an item in the back for me to purchase at a later date. He doesn't gain much from this and it simply shows how generous and understanding he is. Undeniably the best place for tabletop stuff in Norwich.
