Legal Account – Breach of Contract by Codified Lab

I, Andrea Waddington, entered into a contract with The Codified Lab for the purchase and development of a website. All accompanying paperwork, which has been reviewed by my solicitor, explicitly states: “The website belongs to you.”

Despite this, Codified Lab have repeatedly breached contractual obligations, most notably by:

Removing my website and closing associated emails prior to the expiry date of the contract. These services were contracted until 10th September 2025, yet were taken down prematurely.

Preventing me from renewing the domain, despite my willingness to pay for a further year but I had just come out of hospital so was on respite from all business, thereby interfering with my contractual rights and business continuity.

Failing to deliver a GDPR-compliant website, which raises significant legal and regulatory concerns.

Changing agreed payment terms, demanding additional monies upfront under the guise of “cash flow,” despite written agreement that payment would only be due at the end of the project.

As a direct result, my solicitor has advised me to pursue legal action through the Small Claims Court to recover monies owed and damages resulting from these breaches.

It is my professional opinion and lived experience that Codified Lab operate in a manner that exploits clients financially, treating them as “cash cows,” creating artificial issues to extract further payment, and withholding ownership rights unless additional, non-contractual “ransom fees” are paid.

Regardless of any response the company may issue, the documented breaches of contract are clear, evidenced in writing, and supported by legal review.

Advisory to Others

I strongly advise any individual or business considering contracting Codified Lab for IT or website development work to seek independent legal advice before engaging with them. In my view, this company should not be entrusted with client projects without significant risk.

After a bit of a rocky start with this company, we were assigned Justin as our project manager, from then on wards we have had a great experience with this company. Justin has made the whole experience so easy, guiding us through setting up our social media pages and posting content to designing our new website. Justin is great with his communication and will respond immediately when we have had any queries. I would recommend Justin if using this company.

As a gas engineer I wanted a cool sleek business card made. Codified lab guaranteed they knew what I wanted and promised they could deliver. I can't even begin to express my utter disappointment and shock with this company when it comes ro designing a business card. Zero creativity, 0 innovative ability, I had to walk through them with the most basic of things. They didn't even know the difference between a boiler and a shower. After a long 2 months they designed for me a very poor and basic business card. Definitely do not use this company.

The team have been amazingly patient with me, and I am thrilled with the finished website. I do wish I had filled the initial questionnaire out a bit more thoroughly - but they helped along the way taking it step by step. After launching my site there was a small hiccup which was put right straight away.
