Brilliant!
We have been using The Caker for many years now to decorate our cakes with their toppers. It has been a Godsend enabling us to quickly complete cakes and making friends and family very happy with the decorations especially when they are personalised. Turnaround is fast and communication excellent. I cannot rate them enough and highly recommend them to anyone who wants to save them self some time and trouble when decorating cakes.

I ordered a cake topper and birthday cards on Friday 27th November for my daughter's 11th birthday on Weds 2nd December, paying £7 postage for which The Caker's 'Shipping Policy' 'guaranteed' delivery on Monday 30th November. I was immediately emailed by The Caker and advised that delivery would be guaranteed for Tuesday 1st Dec by 1pm rather than Monday 30th, to which I agreed with the proviso that this was indeed a guarantee in view of my daughter's birthday being the following day.
Having gone to great lengths to ensure that someone would be at home to accept the delivery, I became increasingly anxious as the delivery failed to materialise (cakes and cards are a big deal to an 11 year old!). I made two telephone calls and sent two emails to The Caker asking for an update on the delivery but received absolutely no response.
Having no alternative but to stay up making cards and my own cake topper so as not to disappoint my child, I finally finished at 2.30am and sent an email to The Caker explaining the situation and requesting a refund and compensation to which I received this unempathetic, sarcastic and unprofessional response:
‘My goodness, are you even aware that our country is in a national lockdown????
I am astounded by your message.
We printed and posted your order as promised on Friday.
The rest is up to ROYAL MAIL. Surely you realise that there is absolutely noting we can do once we have posted our order!
We are NOT Royal Mail and it is not our job to deliver mail It is our job to give our orders to Royal Mail (which we did). My goodness, I have never been spoken to like this.

I can see that your item is due to arrive today. You may want to ask Royal Mail where your item has been since Friday.
Perhaps you should have ordered earlier rather than blaming the rest of the world. ALL of your assumptions are completely wrong.

For the avoidance of all doubt, my email contained absolutely no expletives as is intimated in the reply.
Oh Dear… ‘The Caker’, not good, not good at all. I have cleared up a few points below for your information:
1) I am acutely aware of the national lockdown, I am a key worker thank you very much! The world hasn’t stopped turning and Royal Mail are still delivering…what exactly is your point?
2) You really do need to brush up on your understanding of Consumer Protection legislation, my contract is with your company and your company therefore assumes full legal responsibility for the items purchased until they have safely arrived with me (this is why professional organisations provide tracking information and delivery updates). You cannot simply palm off blame onto your chosen delivery service. Your business is of course in its rights to complain to the Royal Mail if you feel its service is affecting your efficiency
3) You can ‘see my item is due to arrive today’? ..Is that supposed to be of consolation? My daughter’s birthday is ‘today’, so it’s too late! Your guaranteed delivery was yesterday! And no thank you, I don’t fancy wasting more of my time chasing this up with the Royal Mail – that’s your job as the retailer.
4) ‘Perhaps if I’d ordered earlier instead of blaming the rest of the world’???...are you actually serious? Pot & kettle are literally screaming here. I blamed your company with whom I made the purchase. You however have blamed a) a national lockdown b) the Royal Mail and c) me, the customer! Oh, and I do apologise that I’m not your ‘model customer’ who ordered a month in advance…maybe you should pop on your website ‘organised customers only!’, or perhaps you should simply stop charging people £7 for guaranteed next day delivery to dissuade us terrible unorganised working folk from having the audacity to order from you!
For transparency, after a further exchange, I was promised a refund if I did not accept the delivery but unfortunately my husband was at home and took in the post.
Shame on you The Caker but as a positive you have provided a great case study for customer service lecturers everywhere on how not to speak to your customers!
