Inconsistent recruitment process and disappointing candidate experience
I applied for a Test Analyst role with Ten10 and was extremely disappointed with the overall candidate experience. Despite meeting every single requirement listed in the job specification, including the exact testing skills, experience range, and methodologies requested, I was rejected at the initial stage without any meaningful feedback.
When I proactively asked for clarity, I was told the rejection was due to “commute distance,” despite the role being advertised as hybrid (London / Crawley). I have previously worked hybrid roles in London, have commuted long distances, and have even relocated for work at my own expense. None of this was considered, nor was I asked about my willingness to commute or relocate before being ruled out.
What was more disappointing is that this explanation contradicted the job advert and came only after I followed up, suggesting that the real reason may have been different. It left the impression of a screening process that prioritises arbitrary criteria rather than actual suitability for the role.
Communication felt generic, inconsistent, and dismissive, especially given the competitiveness of the market and the importance of transparency for job seekers. A company that promotes values like collaboration and development should be offering clearer, more respectful candidate handling, particularly when dealing with applicants who fully meet the requirements.
Overall, this was a discouraging experience and raises concerns about how many strong candidates may be filtered out for reasons unrelated to merit.
