While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

The best free tax collection service anyone could ask for. Integrates with Shopify nicely after a few setup hiccups.

TaxCloud will my charge my CC, and every once in a while they have an issue with being rejected. No one knows why, but TaxCloud will then charge me $100 penalty fee, which they charge to my CC, and have no issues receiving payment. This has been very frustrating. They will not issue a credit, even after it is clear that it is indeed working.
Server failures occur too frequently. Customer support not very responsive. Lookups lost causing errors trying to capture taxes.

If you live in a state that has automatic compliance, then it's a good product. If you live in a state that is not in the SST, they will charge you a fee for every transaction in the state. Apparently there is no way to turn that off and we are continually billed for transactions in our state that we do not want. We are currently looking at options to move to a different company as it was not clear when we signed up that this is how it would work.
Update: It's nice that we can receive a review response within 24 hours, but customer service responses take days and weeks a time. What is not transparent is that we apparently are not allowed to opt-out of automatic calculations for certain non-member states. As we calculate and file our own sales taxes in the non-member states, we do not want to pay for a service we do not use and have no need for. This is especially considering our home state, which is a non-member state, is our primary sales location. The fees add up and hurt our small business. We have updated our recent experience rating from 2 to 1 stars.

Although taxcloud is a decent price, their customer service is atrocious. Any time I call I always get an answering service that will send support a message. Then I never get contacted by support. If I email support there is maybe a 50/50 chance I don't get a response and I have to loop some personal emails into the mix to get any answer.

Takes a very long time to get answers to our questions. It also seems like your API service is down far more than it should be.
Got charged monthly fees by them when it was only supposed to take a percentage of tax collected. Complained and was lied to that it would be taken care of. I would never recommend this company to anyway.

I like using TaxCloud because it's easy and worry-free. Recently I had an issue with the Simple Sales Tax plug-in on my website and I was upset because I dreaded trying to learn enough to fix it. I called TaxCloud support, got through immediately, the fix was simple, and it was emailed to me in a timely manner. That's the only issue I've had, but knowing that support is accessible and accommodating has put my mind at ease about using TaxCloud.
Your support and service are almost non-existent. I have been unable to get help of any kind. Pricing is obscene. We will be changing as soon as we are able.

Great service and really nice API but the customer service is almost nonexistent and I get random, unexplained charges.
We were contacted by a faraway state saying that we filed a "negative return" and that they don't allow negative returns. Of course, TaxCloud filed the return. The state should not have contacted us directly, they should have contacted TaxCloud as they are our Certified Service Provider (CSP) for that state. We did have a slow response from TaxCloud and I wish they had better follow through. Frankly, I wish they had a system with trouble tickets that we could see so that any and all interactions for an issue would be shown there. We could mark a ticket resolved or reopen it.
Eventually, after several ways of contacting them, we got the issue resolved. We are remaining with TaxCloud and they do provide an excellent value (they have filed 684 returns, over a 27 month period, and all we've paid was $13 for that service). I wish we could add a reasonable amount (say $5/month) and get trouble ticketing that would guarantee that no issue went unresolved. Their competitors charge an obscene amount that and those fees would crush us.
Can not get support , over charge for api issues latest bill is $400 for a $49 selective compliance plan. even developer have not been able to fix and just push blame. Stay away customer support does not exist. Will be leaving as soon as possible.
Update
All I want is the API to tell customer how much to charge And it does and that’s not a month late. I am on selective compliance you are not reporting my transactions so why should it matter if you received them at all ?
Please reach out to my developer because I have had zero luck getting a reply unless it’s been sent in this review.
(Shocking)

California reports are bad, many tax districts are inaccurate or expired or unknown. Don't see how it could be worst.
We have a very rough time getting any responses from support
