If I could give ZERO stars I would

If I could give ZERO stars I would. Closed my account then offer to try to increase my credit limit they just decreased without even a warning or word to me. Humm…. Let’s think on this… I told you to close my account if you could not fix the mess your business caused. Then you all tried to keep my business by and increase after you closed the account. Amazing that didn’t work. Unethical behavior for a business.

Synchrony will screw you over.

They will decrease your credit out of the blue, right when you start to make real progress paying down debt. When you confront them about it, their excuse doesn't even make sense. Then your credit score drops. Do not get a credit card with this bank. They have done this to me twice now, and I've seen/heard other talk about the same experience. Worse yet, I've seen/heard others discuss having their accounts closed for no reason.

WARNING: BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WITH CARECREDIT

WARNING: Be Extremely Careful With CareCredit

🚨 I made every required monthly payment and was NEVER late. Yet after the promotional period ended, CareCredit charged me $2,254.15 in interest in a single transaction.

💥 BAM! Over $2,200 added at once.

What makes this even worse is that I was also charged $111.33 for Card Security, a product I do not recall knowingly authorizing or requesting. Customers should carefully review their statements for add-on products and fees.

⚠️ WARNING TO ALL CUSTOMERS:

Making your monthly payments on time does NOT necessarily protect you from massive deferred interest charges.
If the promotional balance is not paid in full by the expiration date, CareCredit can charge interest retroactively from the original purchase date.
Review your account for optional products such as Card Security and verify that you actually requested them.
Keep track of your promotional expiration dates yourself—do not assume regular payments are enough.

I used CareCredit for healthcare expenses and paid my account every month as agreed. Being hit with a $2,254.15 interest charge despite making payments feels unfair and misleading. Then seeing an additional $111.33 Card Security charge only added to my frustration.

🚩 Read the fine print carefully before signing up.
🚩 Monitor every statement.
🚩 Know exactly when your promotion ends.

1 Star. Would not recommend. There are better financing options that are more transparent and customer-friendly.

Synchrony feels the need to charge a…

Synchrony feels the need to charge a paper statement fee of $1.99. That should be a part of doing business. I have reasons not have email based statements. Then try customer service. Virtual Assistant? That's what they call their useless software chat! Only thing it can says is Oops. If that's AI, it was modeled after the management of Synchrony Bank. I'm tired of having a descent credit card with vendor only to have them switch to Synchrony. I don't know what Synchrony offers these companies from a descent bank to their bank, but I keep cancelling the cards that switch. I've decided to now keep the card and not charge anything with it, Synchrony can keep it on the books until hell freezes over and not collect anything for it. They would make more on the service fees they charge companies when I charge something than they would ever make on a paper statement fee. So be it.

Deferred Interest Trap

They do not make it clear about the deferred interest. They do not mention this when you sign up. They're VERY predatory and not willing to work with you about this. When you call customer service, you're put on long waits and it's hard to understand the employee. Just read the rest of the reviews, this bank is heinous.

Bad business to deal with

I would advise anyone to stay away from Synchrony when applying for a credit card, I paid two of my credit cards off and as soon as I paid my credit cards off- they closed my account. As long as I had a balance I was in good standing with Synchrony. Be careful when applying for any credit card with Synchrony.

Falsely Accused Of Being A High Credit Risk

I had several credit cards with them for many years and never had a late or a missed payment. Then all of a sudden they closed ALL of my accounts at the same time saying it was due to "unusual activity" on my accounts. There was no such activity going on and they all had very low balances on them (less than $50). They also said that I was at a "high risk" of not being able to repay my debts to them. Really? Something needs to be done about Synchrony Bank once and for all. They have been getting away with these types of activities for way too many years.

Horrible and shady

Horrible and shady. Had several accounts with them. Never missed a payment. Never was late. Over the last few months, I noticed they significantly reduced my limit on a few accounts. Recently, I was fortunate enough to pay off most of my accounts leaving a very small balance on one or two. Last night, I received a letter that one of my accounts was being lowered from $10K to $100. They’ve collected thousands of dollars in interest from me, and this is what they do in return. Due to all the limit decreases, my credit score has nosedived. This is a horrible thing to do to a consumer and bad business. I’ll never do business with them again!

They are not trustworthy

They are not trustworthy. They simply withdrew money from my checking account without my authorization. And worse, they said they would only return the money in approximately 2 weeks! I have US$641.00 and I need to pay other bills! It's outrageous. Don't do anything with this card.

Synchrony Bank could never improve

Synchrony Bank could never improve. Back in 1997 (Phila., Pa.) I tried to open a bank account with them and was turned down because of my credit score. In 2024, I was offered a chance to get a PayPal credit card ($2500). It was used on my Cruise. Within that year, I received an email that they lower my credit amount to $1390- what I had spent on the card, and I had $25 available credit. This caused my credit score to go down, made my Credit Utilization 75%. My credit score was in low 700. Getting back on track with credit score, I got an Amazon store card ($2200), and a Walmart spend card ($1000). Within 6 months they have dropped both accounts down to the credit I spent on the cards Amazon ($931), Walmart ($601) and available credit is $25 & $31. Now I have to get ready for the credit score to go back down, Credit Utilization to go up. I wish I would have remembered about how they did with PayPal card. I read under BBB; this person is trying to start a First-Class Action Lawsuit and wanted people to join in. Something needs to be done; they are messing up people credit score. I never missed a payment, never late and sometimes paid more. This is reported to agencies like (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion) so it seems as if we can't handle credit how we spend, makes it hard to do other things that some companies may have to check your score. They are a very BAD Bank. I have let everyone I know about this Synchrony Bank. Run, Run Fast. Customer Service is a Joke also.

This company only accepts payments by having access to your checking account. They refused every other payment option we gave including a direct wire. Then you cannot get access to account details. Extortionary fees. RUN from them.

Worst Bank to deal with

This is probably the worst bank that I have ever had to deal with. Customer service does not help or even understand the issue. I had credit on my card left, got declined twice, called them to find out why and was told due to card not being activated but had a balance due of $1700. Customer service was horrible, and i did not want to deal with such poor service, asked them whats balance due to close account - was given the total and I paid it. You would think that was the end, Oh No not with this awful bank. The call it trailing interest even after you have paid your sum. This was in April. Got a note today from Transunion about a late payment. Called bank, they took the late payments off and to find out trailing interest was lower than what they told Transunion BUT Customer Service would not assist to clear the issue with Transunion...their words - its your problem. Never again and I cancelled the two other charge cards i had with this bank. Good Bye

Horrible company to work with

Horrible company to work with. We just cancelled our Lowe's credit card with them due to the awful customer service. I went online weeks ago to make our payment just to find out two days after the due date that it never posted, due to there being too many digits in the account number I entered. Their site doesn't give you any indication that there were too many digits and when going online to check the payment, the site kept saying "pending" or processing. Apparently there is no algorithm on their site that indicates when an account number can't possible work and we never received any notification that there was an error. Once I realized that it wasn't going through I immediately called them to find out what happened. Not only did they charge me a $35 late fee, they also charged me a $35 returned check fee, despite the fact that no check was ever processed. I spoke to their customer service rep and then the supervisor and then to an "escalation specialist" and no one was willing to help. We cancelled the card so now they aren't the least bit interested in helping. I have never in my life been late on any payment; never wrote a bad check - never delinquent ever on any payment of any kind. This was especially disturbing to me and we were put off by their lack of understanding and willingness to help sort this out.

Pulled money not due

I have a pay later loan through them. Fell behind one month but was still on autopay so didn’t notice it missed one month until I checked And had over 200 in late fees. They could only credit one months worth of late fees, even after speaking to the manager. Very upset but it was my mistake so I paid Everything up to date on 6/9. Next autopay was scheduled for 6/12 but 2 different reps assured me that nothing would pull on the 12th since I was At a $0 balance. Well it pulled anyway! Called and spoke to them and asked if that would just go towards July payment. They said no, it would just be considered an extra payment. So I said I need It refunded then! She just put in a refund request but said she wasn’t able to email me to confirm this. I have To wait 24-48 hours for the automated email. Then to top it off, they can’t just refund it to my bank. Has to be a check sent in the mail. So over $100 that they said was not going to be pulled and was not due, pulled and now I have to wait around 2 WEEKS to get my money back. Predatory and disgusting! Just hoping they actually send me my money back and I dont Have to deal with them again. In the future, I will NEVER do anything with synchrony again!!
