This company contacted me to say there is unclaimed money.

This company contacted me to say there was some unclaimed money from approx. 30 years ago. When I tried to find out, all they could focus on was the security questions which I and they knew I couldn't answer due the age of the old account. Even talked with a supervisor. Again only could focus on the questions. Also they couldn't answer if there was money, why did I not receive a yearly statement in all this time. I finally gave up.

Waiting on pension plan payment

Waiting on pension plan payment, Pushed from one person to another on phone until cut off. After several hours and weeks finally talked to knowledgeable person. She was very good started paper work for administration. Now in administrations hands, waiting game starts again. We are in need of my own money to make financial obligations. They keep you in the dark not knowing when funds will be available. Bills don't wait. Should be a simlpe process to withdraw your own money. Purchaced medical plan with no issues or delay. They have no problem taking money, pension funds should be the same.

This company is crap. They sit there and want information and paperwork yesterday phone you complain to you that we need it
And then wait three weeks to get back to you

Sit there and say we will contact you on a certain day never do
The adjusters or staff working for them have no empathy or sympathy

Definitely doing whatever they can to not pay benefits, long-term short-term, sick time absolute crap company

Absolutely Garbage company

Absolutely Garbage company. I was under a work policy for 3 years in which I provided countless documentation to prove I have the ailments I have.
After losing my job and being harassed into switching to a private policy, I now have to submit new documentation for my ailments in which they already have. They are unable to provide for me the documents in which I have already provided to them. Absolute Garbage. Never ever spend money with them.

Terrible Treatment and Dishonest

Sun Life comes up with whatever technicalities they can to avoid paying claims. I am allotted $750 a year for podiatrists visits, but when I submitted for a minor procedure as a one time cost (saving SunLife from paying out more money long term) they denied the claim because it was over $100. There is no nuance, just any reason they can avoid paying what you are rightfully owed.

When I had to go on a short term disability from my work, the agents who handled my file were insensitive (knowing what the situation was) and interrogated me as if I was doing something wrong for using my benefits.

Their app is well made and does make submitting small claims easy, but how they choose to treat customers is shameful.

Re: Old Life Insurance Policy.
Will need to lawyer up!! No idea why they cant even find policy and then lie about it?. Odd and very unprofessional?!....How can you to

say ' you dont have info' and misdirect client?. No training at all clearly, how do they have jobs?

**** Very unprofessional and unethical they should be investigated by a 3rd party firm re: this type of behaviour and peoples money/assests ( #betterbusinessbureau )

I wish I could give them a negative star.
The advisor took advantage of a man with disabilities, brain injury and mental health issues to gain a higher commission.
They have now kept over 45k of his inheritance because he was never advised properly.
They also have only their in house people "looking into it" which means the outcome is always the same.
I've laywered up because of it.
It has been well over a year, there is no closure and I am unable to grieve the loss.

Very difficult to get reimbursement for covered services!

You have to submit a claim three or four times before they realize they were in the wrong! I even submitted their email response when I confirmed that I have coverage for the service and they don't want to pay! Receptionists are nice, but whoever is handling claims needs training!!!

great service

I'm not sure why alot of people give a negative feedback on sunlife but they are really helpful when it comes to claim. My husband have a sunlife group benefit and claiming benefits is easy and fast. Sometimes it takes time to approve for a claim but it they still approve it which is good!

I hope that claiming other type of insurance is sunlife will be the same when the time comes I need to claim for life insurance! Thank you sunlife!

Worst company to ever deal with

Worst company to ever deal with. They hire a bunch of narcissistic psychopaths that has your life in their hand and can play DR whenever they want to. Cut you off of your benefit just because they think they can do what they want. Cruel people have to be hire for that purpose. Cowards. Somebody should hold these people accountable for ruining your life. Don't deal with this company if I can give them a zero I would.

Worst dealing

Worst dealing. Earning money not supporting people suffering from last 8-9 months. Submitted documents and reports but staff don’t even listen and give their decision and disconnect the call.
They don’t have replies for all the questions of rejection of file. I say a big zero.

Incompetent

Customer Service is once again the worst of the worst.
For such a small request since December 2024, 6 online messages on their portal, the request has still not been handled.
Maybe if employees were physically in the office instead of working from home, the work would get completed within a standard of normal time.

Never again, i might lose the house

I deposited some money into my non reg with Sunlife. nowhere did it give me a warning about the amount I was putting in. Now I'm trying to get it out for a down payment on a new home, and its taking months. they have verified my identity 3-4 times with the same paperwork. one person told me its something wrong on their end said and it'll be fixed in 5 business days. the next person said they need to pieces of ID so i sent that and nothing, then the next person told me its because i hyphenated my name and the passport and ID didn't match, so i sent over my current mortgage document that has my hyphenated name.
This has been such an awful ordeal, no one could tell me that its was the hyphenated name till I'm 4 days away from closing and this is my downpayment, I'm probably going to lose the house because sunlife took my money but wont give it back. never again!

Difficult Claim Process

My Long-Term Disability insurance with SunLife. The premium is deducted from my payroll. There is no receipt from SunLife. That's OK. but the problem is when I claim the premium under my personal spending account (also with Sunlife), SunLife asked me to submit the original receipt. I called and explained to a Sunlife Team member but she seemed to be no knowledge or experience at all to handle my case but promised to pass to someone who may be able to process my claim. Also I re submitted my claim with my payroll deduction paper. A week passed (She promised to feedback to me in 2-3 days ) and nothing was from SunLife.

My case is so easy, the claim form is made by SunLife, the premium paid to Sunlife, my PSA is with Sunlife, the procedure follows up Sunlife claim policy. But it is so difficulty and time costing for claiming a simple and easy case !

I’ve been on hold for an hour trying to access my account only to have an extremely rude representative answer then before I can explain my issue ( registering a new account ) she transfers me where I stay on hold for another hour ( without option for callback ) this company is an absolute joke. I cannot stand dealing with them, but I’m forced to through work.

pathetic customer service

because they got such a big client base, they've got stricter rules and harass people
I lost proof of payments, so they blocked my online access - which is still fine
but even the direct billing option sucks
the provider cannot even claim directly, first I have to make payment and then a lot later I receive the payments back in my account
rather switch to MANULIFE
the EMPLOYERS need to consider other options I believe

THEY LIE CHEAT AND NEVER PAY OUT

I had my short and long-term disability through Sun Life Financial while working at a Ford Dealership for over 5 years. I changed jobs for less than a year and returned to my Ford job in August or September 2007. My back was hurting worse than normal so I saw some doctors and in December 2007 I had my first appointment with a neurosurgeon. On January 12 the neurosurgeon made the decision to operate on me January 21, 2008. I never worked full time again.

After I returned to Ford in 2007 I signed up for short and long-term disability through Sun Life Financial
once again in October 2007. After I was disabled, I contacted Sun Life Financial in order for them to pay out short and long-term disability. They refused to pay me a cent after I had paid them for over 5 years. They had lots of people with lots of time to talk with me about signing up. However, it was very hard to find anybody to talk about the problem I was having. Finally, I was told that since my doctor made her decision to operate on me in December 2007 and they didn’t receive my first payroll deduction until January 2008 they wouldn’t pay. She went further to state that if I would have signed up directly through them in October instead of signing up through my job they would have paid me. There was one problem my doctor didn’t make a decision to operate on me UNTIL JANUARY 2008 which means they owe me. I told them to contact my doctor to receive confirmation. After checking with my doctor for over three months to see if Sunlife contacted them in any way the Doctors office stated they did not. I called Sunlife many times and they stated the Doctor made the decision in December 2007 which is a lie. DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR MONEY THEY WILL NOT PAY. I lost my house of which my family was raised in, I had to move my wife, son and I into my mother’s house all because the stockholders of Sun Life Financial could steal a larger profit.
