My experience with Best Buy included…
My experience with Best Buy included the purchase of many premium items, computers, iphones, etc, at Best Buy in Columbus, Indiana. The only challenge I encountered in my many visits there, was receiving a thorough explanation of how the billing would take place for extended warranty programs. I found this challenging, and frustrating. Then I realized that the employees at Best Buy may not know all of the ins and outs because the warranties were covered by non Best Buy entities.
Tricked into opening a credit card, impossible to talk to a human
When I bought my tablet, they asked if I wanted to join Best Buy to get discounts. I said ok. Little did I know that they were signing me up to open a new credit card! By the time I figured it out, I just went with it, but I would never have chosen to do that. They wanted my social security number, three times, my driver's license, three times.
Then, I went online because I wanted to know how to pay my credit card bill. Impossible! I haven't received any credit card in the mail or any account number. Impossible to talk to a human being. So I went to the Best Buy in Union Square, New York, and paid my bill by cash to a human being. But the website still says I owe the full amount!
I called robot telephone number several times to close my account (because the only way to escape the labyrinth of their Automated Telephone System they are so proud of is to hang up and start over). The robot said I successfully closed my account, but what about the remaining balance which the robot said I owe but which I don't really owe because I paid it by cash in person? I hope this thing doesn't come back to bite me, with Best Buy saying I owe money!
Plus the deceit of tricking me into signing up for a credit card! Deplorable! I HATE it! This whole experience is everything I hate about Big Business, impersonal robot phone systems, live customer service people who don't know or don't have the power to solve problems. I would give them a negative 10 rating if I could. And I will on TrustPilot.
Best or Worst Buy?
So, who wouldn’t want to be a customer at Best Buy? It is the only place where the service and consideration of their customers are the LAST thing of importance to the store owners! Where you know from day one your time and life are worthless to the store owners. Where the employees ride rough-shod over the customers and do whatever THEY wish to do with there time while on duty, even not show up, lie, just simply dehumanize the customer and literally spit into their faces! Oh, yes, and be able to enjoy the knowledge that the employees can jump up and down and smash the customers as often and as long as it pleasures them!?
TERRIBLE
TERRIBLE. Salesguy sold us inappropriate stackable washer and dryer, for my home. Never asking for drain depths for ventless hose. Needless to say, clothes never dried. This was following their installation contractor's SHOVING a hose into my wall, causing a flood in my townhouse. Months of back and forth with their insurance to reimburse us for the water restoration people to come out for damages!! Baseboards removed, GIANT, noisy dehumidifiers... A complete Disaster. Stay away from Best Buy, unless you're looking for a phone, or TV. HORRIBLE.
Bypass Best Buy
I'd like to find another store in America that has a 14 DAY return policy... even for COMPLETELY unopened items that are not electronics WITH THE RECEIPTS. This is exactly why people do no go to stores like this and SHOP ONLINE. I hope Best Buy continues to close stores.
I bought a two TV mounts, not knowing which would work. When I tried to return the one I didn't use, they told me I was outside of the 14 day window and would not even offer store credit for something that was completely unopened and even had the receipt. WHAT A JOKE
I went into BB to get a round battery…
I went into BB to get a round battery for my PC. There were very few employees and as I approached Nick at the registered, I inquired about where the batteries were. He directed me with little interest to a rack to the left of the front entrance where there was only one pack of 4 of the 2032 batteries left. I wanted to buy only one but since their rack was very low. I think their supplier must not care to make money, having a large selection or the section manager didn't care as well? I live 25 minutes east of the store so I wanted to make sure these batteries had a good charge on them. As in some cases, I would have to drive back if the batteries weren't any good! I asked Nick if they had an ohm meter to test the the items, and he didn't know and in fact, wasn't aware what an ohm meter was. An electronic supermarket as this, not to have an ohm meter sounded kind of lame. I asked Nick to check with someone at the Geek Squad, he did but didn't have anyone available. Instead he called someone I thought (GIGI), would know and after speaking with this young lady, I was told the batteries they would get from their supplier were kind of big and came in a large box. I had to explain to her, the batteries I was looking for were not as big as she assumed I needed. I asked her if she was talking about a Laptop Battery which she then realized her assumption was incorrect! I find the lack of communication today, lacks a lot of work just about everywhere. I was 25 years a Maintenance Specialist in the USAF, and when communication isn't effective repairing airplanes, people can die on the ground. I guess as critical as it may sound, in retail, if customers don't helped as expected, the CFO will have to answer to the share holder for loss in revenue! Glad is not my problem, cause I don't like to loose revenues from this lack of responsibility!
You HAVE TO WORK TO GET ANY SERVICE
We purchased a Insignia refrigerator, it was delivered on time so there is my one star, however, on the front of my refrigerator is a dent when they brought it in so they took the pics of that. They told us to contact Best Buy and they would pay for that by knocking some of the bill. Okay great. They leave then when I go to open fridge I notice my bottom shelf on the door has a large hole that is broken out of it. I contact them and they said to call back the next day which was Sunday today. I have been trying to talk to these guys since 10am its now 4pm and have gotten absolutely NOWHWHERE. I ask for a replacement shelf to which they say we are unable to replace the shelf instead insisting on replacing the whole fridge which would cost me a days wages with me having to miss work to be there so they can bring fridge so I tell them I need just a replacement shelf. They said they would send technician out oh...but 30 mins later they claim there is no service appointments. I tell my husband to contact them he does they said they would contact him back they call him then hang up he waits for them to call back they dont. We have still gotten nowhere after this whole day.
I purchased an annual Geek Squad plan…
I purchased an annual Geek Squad plan which I was told would cover help with and repair of my devices in the store or at home but I have now attempted to use it twice for items (SimpliSafe alarm and turntable stylus) purchased at and installed by Best Buy and both time was told they are excluded. This is a bait and switch and the plan is useless. I spent tens of thousands at the store for audio equipment and installation.
Geek Squad Protection Failed After Catastrophic Phone Defect
I bought Geek Squad Protection for $69.99 with a $240 Motorola Edge phone on November 25, 2025.
On December 2, the phone experienced a battery failure that caused flames to shoot out of the side. The phone, case, and screen protector were destroyed. I returned it the same day and, despite having the protection plan, was charged $45 for a replacement phone.
Less than three weeks later, the replacement device failed and would not charge past 10 percent.
At that point, the support process broke down. The store could not locate my protection plan and sent me to Geek Squad. Geek Squad confirmed the plan and sent me back to the store, which then stated they do not replace Android batteries and instructed me to file a repair or replacement claim.
I filed the claim. The insurer, Assurant, told me the model was discontinued and could not be replaced. The only option offered was a “buyout,” which required me to pay $218 upfront so they could then reimburse me. Multiple calls to Assurant ended with the automated phone system disconnecting the call.
The protection plan ended up costing more than the phone itself while failing to deliver a functional device. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Geek Squad Protection.
Worst customer service
Best buy failed to deliver the tablet I ordered for same day delivery. Instead they delivered someone else's order to me. They then expected me to return the order at my own cost, while making me wait a week to receive my tablet. Every attempt I made to get customer service to simply provide a way for me to give the items back without personal cost was rejected. I chatted multiple times with different reps who all expected me to pay out of my own pocket to correct their mistake. When I informed corporate of this they made no genuine efforts to make it right in any significant way besides finally agreeing to pick up the items, despite being 100% in the wrong from start to finish. Customer service is a nightmare to deal with, and corporate does not value customer retention or company accountability at all. You could not pay me to purchase anything from online or in a Best Buy store in the future. It is worth paying slightly more if necessary for items to avoid having to deal with this company.
No one authorized to help me!!!!!!
My Best Buy Account is in my deceased wife's name ). I have been trying to change to my name . The Geek Squad told me to call 888 237 8289 and Headquarters will make change. Headquarters Not authorized to change!! Can CEO make change for me???
Best Buy Warranty Breach of Contract
Best Buy customer service has reached a new low. I have been a loyal customer for years, purchasing untold thousands of dollars in products over the years. I am also a Total Tech member, paying $199/year for this service. One of the major benefits Best Buy touts for becoming such a member is the 2-year warranty you are provided on any purchase made from the company. In late May 2025, I purchased and HP LaserJet Printer that had a retail value at the time of round $600, but was on sale for around $500. I used $265 in Best Buy cash back reward certificates I had earned from the company from prior purchases, with the balance, approximately $240 out of pocket. Just after a year, the printer stopped functioning and I returned it to the store to swap for a new one, with the same exact model I originally purchased still in stock in the store. I was informed that the terms of the "warranty" that was in place at the time of the original purchase had changed, and the store would now no longer honor a "swap" for a new product. Instead, I would be required to pay the difference between what I paid out of pocket only ($240) and the current price of the printer, which was not $750. In addition, they would no longer credit me for the $265 in store certificates I had used to purchase the original printer. I consider this an absolute BREACH OF CONTRACT in that the terms that were in place at the time I purchased the product were no longer being honored, making my Total Tech membership essentially worthless to me. I cannot believe Best Buy now treats their most loyal customers in this manner. I am so appalled and insulted by this treatment, I am vowing never to purchase another product from them again, will cancel my Total Tech membership, and will now make my purchases elsewhere, such as Amazon. Instead of Total Tech, I'll use my money on Amazon Prime and will no longer support the local retail Best Buy store.
I saw the reviews and your ratings
I saw the reviews and your ratings. I should of looked at them before i bought my computer. I was happy till I was told about your lottery. I was $charged $50 and If the priced dropped any time with in 60 days, I got the difference back .My computer dropped over Memorial Day $200 I was working and came in the next day. I was told I had to come in the day of the sale. Most reputable places it's an automatic, most of all when they charge $ 50. When I had $200 dollars they said I could have my $50 back?? What a scam
Made a google review for Best Buy…
Made a google review for Best Buy located at 131 Mall Woods Dr
Dayton, OH 45449 regarding my request for a return which was outside of the 2 week return window. They responded to the review asking me to reach out by a social media response which made me believe that potentially they were going to advocate for me and assist in the return! Forget that it was a waste of time and only to get the following message “I am happy to document your experience, and your case number is xxxxxxxx. If you have questions or concerns about other issues in the future, please feel free to reach out.”

Like what the hell Best Buy not only do you have a crappy return policy - you like to waste time! I will gladly do business elsewhere and ohhh this was all about a product that was less than $25.00! Way to treat your customers - Amazon now will have my business no longer going to give business to a brick and mortar - good luck keeping customers if that is the way you treat customers refusing a return and not granting an exception due to being out of the country for over 3 weeks after we made the purchase which was attempted to be used but the product did not work appropriately because it was too heavy! I’m over it - buyers beware of this Best Buy and wasting your time on taking action on their responses!
Great Service at Best Buy!
I have purchased many items from Best Buy. A week ago I purchased a IPAD PRO. The representative that helped me was very knowledgeable, courteous, and helpful. Then she walked me over to The Geek section and a gentleman helped me set up and transfer apps from my IPHONE. I also purchased an iPhone 15 plus from Best Buy. I ended up also having to buy $180.00 insurance and if I have any problems it's no charge to me. The overall experience was very good! I definitely would purchase washer, dryer, refrigerator, electronics from Best Buy!
We visited the Best Buy store in…
We visited the Best Buy store in Skokie, Il. today with intention to purchase some type of new I Pad for my wife. We were initially approached by one of the staff working the area, or so it appeared. I began to ask some questions relative to the Apple models here and what are the pro & cons to each. This particular staff person was not impressive, nor did he seem to interested in assisting us, and at some point walked away. Determined to make this purchase we were then approached by another staff person, who we came to know as Les Trinidad, who immediately went into action, and showed is willingness to assist, and also his vast knowledge of the products we were interested in. We asked many questions relative to the different models, capabilities of each, warranties and so on to make a informed and good decision. He was a great listener, and had a very congenial attitude that we could immediately relate to here. We wound up purchasing a new Apple I Pad, the Apple pen to go with it, and also the keyboard associated with this I Pad. Les, was thorough and skilled in his knowledge but was not forcing anything, and in some cases showing us why one and possibly not the other model. He was patient, courteous and a great example for many companies on the importance of your staff who are the face of the company in these moments. He over extended himself with patience in handling all of our request to make the conversion to the new I Pad, adding Facebook back onto the new I Pad, showing all the operational features, right down to the moving of all information from old to the new, and checking us out to be sure all was complete.
Please recognize this great example of a team player, a great associate of the company, which is reflective one would hope of the entire company. We could not have been more pleased with the entire visit, and would recommend this associate to our business colleagues, our friends, and all of the folks we know of which is thousands of people in our business & personal world.
This is gold for any company when you have associates who shine bright when it is time to go work. Congratulations to Les Trinidad on making this a great experience today.
Best Buy is a Joke
Overpriced, clueless staff, and a nightmare for returns. Online orders take forever. Save your time and money—go somewhere else.
If he were white it would of have been racist!
I was accused of theft by someone named Green that is a theft prevention employee! Green is African American and he claimed he my kind because I am African American. I had Green call the supervisor and white supervisor did not correct Green in how he address me and situation. I never stole anything and Green could not prove it. Green first excuse is that I put the item in my pocket and then toke it?!?! If I did do that (which I did not) then the item would still be in the store and that would not be theft!! Green needs to be fired! I have recorded evidence of what happened!
Dishonest practices (sent us a used TV with previous owner's profile still intact)
We purchased a new 50" Toshiba smart TV today as a Christmas gift. The TV was delivered from Store number 1444 in Williamsburg," VA. Much to our deep disappointment and shock, the TV was used, repackaged as "new," still had the previous owner's profile, and had no manual, warranty card. We immediately contacted the customer service to arrange for a pick up. We tried to contact the Williamsburg, VA. Bestbuy store to speak with the manager about the store's dishonest and unprofessional conduct, but Bestbuy customer service told us that there was no way for us to call the store directly unless we drove to the location. This was our first time buying anything from Bestbuy. We are shocked by the inefficient, sub-par, dishonest practices by Bestbuy. We will not shop at Bestbuy. Unbelievable that a company like Bestbuy would tolerate such practices by one of its stores. For the record, our case number is 3493526306.

Purchased a $436 Dollar Samsung Ring. Was to be delivered in two days. Fed Ex gave the ring a tour of the west coast of the USA. Arrived very late.
