NOT VERY SMART

MY SMART METER ISNT VERY SMART AS WHEN I MOVED IN THERE WAS NO MONITOR SO ITS SMART ENOUGH TO SAVE EON NEXT HAVING TO SEND SOMEONE TO READ MY METER BUT NOT SMART ENOUGH TO TRACK/REDUCE ENERGY CONSUMPTION

Smart meters don't deserve a rating

I've had 2 smart meters at this address since 2019 and have never received properly read metered bill for gas. Every bill has been estimated. The excuse I got for the first one was the meter doesn't link to my provider and with the second meter installation the same but this time the provider says it's because they have the incorrect details for the meter. This to me is so unprofessional for 2 reasons. 1 the company that installed the new meter never sent the details to the provider. 2 The provider knew that had been fitted and did not chase up those details required. I live alone and work full time and don't have a gas cooker. It's only central heating which is never on in the summer or during the day while I'm at work. Yet for some reason I get bills of over £100 per month and have done for a long time. When I had a mechanical prepayment meter in 2019 it use to cost no more than £15 per month to £60 in the winter and then I did have a gas cooker as well. It's so strange how I also has a smart meter for my electricity and that has always worked. Plus the bill have always been in line with price rises and inflation. Smart meters for gas are a disgrace and in my opinion you should by law be able to switch back. I think it impede our human rights to be forced to keep a smart meter system that is obviously useless.

Well I had one installed a year ago…

Well I had one installed a year ago really tried to stay away as had seen previous reviews from US years ago.

The monitor didn’t work since installation and where my bills were low they increased significantly especially when I’m only home 2 weeks in the month. SHOCKINGLY DECEIVING. I think the monitor has to be quite close to the meter bit to work and it’s not always possible in some buildings. You can’t get your money back once bills come and there is no way us as customers can check, only by what we previously paid.
It’s a big con, tried to go but they wouldn’t allow me to I wouldn’t recommend it at all systems better. You cannot trust those metres.

stop giving me the goddamn ad

Right, I don’t have one personally bc I can’t buy one (I’m 14) BUT on Spotify I keep getting the ad and I’m only giving 2 stars bc I used to like the ad at first but now it’s pissing me off fr. I can’t even get premium on Spotify (I don’t have money).

Yall prob be thinking it’s pretty stupid to write a review abt this but imagine every 20-30 minutes you get the same ad twice and it’s like “whether you’re on your sofa, or with your little cherups, or at the shops after they’ve just closed, or if you’re tucked up warm in bed and it’s raining cats and chicos” like no 😭 it’s been on so many times I’ve started quoting it in school.

Please stop 😭😭😭

This smart meter is a scandalous

This smart meter is a scandalous, it never worked after 3 months and no one comes to fix it. Why government is wasting money on it, honestly this is one way of enriching the corporate world which already makes enormous profit charging higher tariffs.More than a year and still not fixed. Typical Scottish power.

Smart meters not communicating with network

We have had a smart metre for over 2 years and it still does not work. After endless communication with octopus and a lot off different engineers.who just keep changing the meter. Now blaming poor signal. This is provided to Octopus by DCC(Data Collection Company who were set up by the government). I asked Octopus to contact DCC as DCC will not entertain enquiries by the public. I was told that Octopus can not do this. I find this strange as DCC are in fact sub-contractors for Octopus. I was offered £100 by Octopus as a means of resolving the issue. This has now been increased to £150 or for me to take it to the ombudsman.
Issues with meters that are unable to send readings mean “added value” tariffs are not available ie cheaper off-peak charging for electric vehicles

IT Doesn’t work

IT Doesn’t work . Will cost you a day of work and pay. I’ve asked 12 people who have a smarty and 8 don’t work properly. And Energy companies only want to fit them and not return to repair them. It’s a complete wast of time and money and cost more energy then its ever going to save. There are cases where it can reduce your cost , YES BECAUSE YOUR USEING TO MUCH.

What a joke

What a joke, that stupid, ridiculous ott advert campaign should tell you what you need to know! That there's something off about it and that it's really for the large companies and government for data and marketing purposes like many digital and tracked tech nowadays. Serves them not YOU.

As for the system, had it installed against my instinct to keep it how it should have been. Over the past months, nothing more than malfunctions (that we had to report with long delays) the interface has not worked for some time and is in continuous reset mode! Also, it will not accept automatic payments, so we have crawl (that's right) under the stairs into that tiny area right on the bottom of the floor just to see the tiny lcd display, (has to be at a certain angle to see it right) it's like a torture lesson in stretching and trying to squeeze by things to get to it. As we now have enter a lonnnnnng pin code to update our electric that's on pay as you go mode. Just easier before with a key system. Had other issues as well. It's a waste of time, don't bother with it.

Smart meters "myths"

Let us explore some myths about smart meters. 1) Smart meters save you money. THEY DO NOT.!!! In fact there are numerous reports of bills increasing after having one of these devices fitted. 2)Your traditional meter is out of date and at the end of its life cycle. NOT TRUE. Traditional meters are certified for the life of the product and as such do not need changing if they are functioning correctly or found to be faulty. 3) Smart meters are reliable and regularly send meter readings to your energy supplier. THEY DO NOT. Given that an estimated 20% of smart meters do not work properly, this is blatant "misinformation". 4) You must have a smart meter fitted by law. NOT TRUE. It is every ones legal right to refuse to have one of these devices fitted. Just tell your energy supplier that you do not want one, they are LEGALLY obliged to respect your decision. 5) You can easily change supplier. NOT TRUE. You cannot change suppliers "easily". Given that many smart meters aren't able to communicate (certainly SMET1 devices). Plus, suppliers make it almost impossible to change suppliers as they are desperate to keep you "tied in". It really is essential that people know the facts about this "failing" government inspired "roll out" which will ultimately, only benefit our profiteering energy suppliers, rather than believing all the "spurious" nonsense issued by the smart meter propaganda team. Choose wisely!!!

WASTE OF TIME

I booked a smart meter installation about 4 month's ago it was about 3:30pm Friday afternoon the engineer turned up and just did my electric meter and come up with some 🐂 that the Gas wasn't working so he couldn't install that one and would rearrange lol.
If was Friday and he wanted an early finish. 2 and a half months later I phoned up again to ask when they were going to finish the job they arranged for another Friday between 3 and 5 as you could imagine I thought that this is going to turn out well and yes I was right I got a phone call at 3:40 of a woman saying the the engineer had been called on a emergency and could she rearrange for the 6th February at to which I told her that when they come they can remove the Smart meter altogether. DO NOT GET A SMART METER WASTE OF TIME.

Smart meter is a con

I do not want a smart meter in the first however I felt bullied when I switch supplier Either have one or not switch at all. So I have one installed. Less than a year and it broke down. I emailed UW and emailed me back to take the following steps to reset the meter. They said if it does not work, blame it in the wifi signal. My meter is located less than 2 meters from my router and our main box is just across street less than 25 meters from the house and my broadband speed is over 149 mbps. A lot of bull. They made no mention of replacing the meter but instead from now on I would send them the reading every end of the month. So all of the trouble installing a smart meter only to go back to the traditional method. I do not know who got conned, me, the supplier or the government. And they are using Einstein to promote the smart meter. Einstein is turning over from his grave.

Smart meter is worthy E on next consumer

I booked an appointment for smart meter in September and two engineers who installed it were very helpful and friendly, overall I am really impressed to have smart meters, it is easy to top up if you have debit or credit cards.
I found that my energy bills decreased because of the smart meter.

More smart meter junk mail.…

Here we go with that "old chestnut" via a circular, "Your meter has come to the end of its life and needs to be replaced". It's yet another futile attempt to bully vulnerable people into having one of these contraptions fitted. The "circular" does not even address me by name or tell me the serial number of my existing meter, in fact I don't think they have a clue how old my traditional meter is, or when it was last safety tested. They have tried to tell us blatant lies claiming that they save you money and are now "scraping the barrel" with the "you need a new meter" scaremongering. Do they not realise that most people do not want these ill thought out "gadgets" thus giving energy companies total control with changing tariffs and even cutting of your gas supply should they choose to do so. I asked a meter fitter some years ago who told me "traditional" meters are good for 25 years plus and ensure that I would be wise to never to change it. In conclusion, I would urge people not to be taken in by this deception that "smart meters" are there to help you. Do your research, look at Trustpilot reviews, then make an informed decision. Throw all these unsolicited circulars (junk mail) in the bin where they belong. Be under no illusion,"smart meters" are purely for the benefit of the energy companies not for it's customers, and it is your right to refuse having one fitted.

Poor service by British gas…

My smart meter supplied by British gas has hardly ever worked. It now only reads gas but previously only read electricity. After several complaints I'm still left climbing on to kitchen work tops to read the meter, I'm 71.
