Initial poor customer service with a dismissive response to complaint

I ordered a handrail from this company which was to be a cap free wall hand rail. On arrival the oak colour and finish was a perfect match to my furniture. Unfortunately the rail arrived with one end painted black instead of being left to the wood, there were lacquer bubbles on it and a mark. The initial response I received to my raised concerns was far from satisfactory;

"As to the problems below:

The ends are cut when the handrail is fitted so it's of no consequence.

The lacquer bubbles are unfortunate but they will be able to be lightly sanded out

The mark isn't clear from the photo but if I'm not mistaken it looks like a medullary ray? Does it have a texture?"

This was not a satisfactory response in fact I felt I was being dismissed and told to go away! Just a short fired "tough luck." Many would have given up at this point however I was not prepared to be dismissed!

My response was;

"It certainly is of consequence! This hand rail is to be used as a wall hand rail (without end caps.)

I find your observation regarding the lacquer bubbles being unfortunate rather dismissive!

I do not believe the mark is a medullary ray which I am quite accustomed to as I have oak furniture. No it does not have texture."

The rail has now been replaced and the faulty rail taken away however the offer to do this should have been immediate on receipt of my complaint which had photos attached. My initial complaint explained the faults that made the rail un-useable.

I am pleased that the problem has now been resolved however feel that Simon who was the company respondent needs to sharpen up his customer service skills.
