Used to be great but now useless due to premium restrictions. It wouldn’t be so bad as a one off cost but for a monthly/annual price it’s too much. I will be looking for an alternative.
Has a daily limit of 4 expenses…
Useless!
This app is now completely unusable because of the 3 expenses daily limit on free accounts. I'm not paying for something I could set up in a spreadsheet in 20 minutes. Splitwise, congratulations on tanking your previously brilliant user experience.
New limit "3 expense a day" makes it unusable
New limit makes it unusable.
I'll have to give 2 starts as I've been quite content with it so far. Its straightforward and easy to use, but as I have a habit of doing expense-overview once a week, it no longer serves any purporse for me, since they added a maximum of '3 expenses a day' to push their paid Pro-version.
I don't like to be strong-armed into buying something, so we'll be looking elsewhere for a new app. Darn shame.
New daily limit makes it unfit for purpose
They've introduced a limit of 3 expenses per day. Makes it unusable for me, so I'm going with a competitior now. I used to swear by splitwise. Shame.
Used to be good now it's just another "freemium app" after your money
Devs....... Please don't be d*cks.
These adverts that you have pushed out are so bad they will simply result in years long users like myself abandoning the platform in favour of the competition.
Neither myself or anyone else is going to watch an advert for every expense they add.
Shame on you for removing core functionality in a push to have people pay!
This is so disheartening as I've really promoted your app to so many of my friends and family and to now have it that I can't even add a single expense without watching some stupid animation that essentially forces me to use the upgraded account because the add, which let's face it, isn't actually advertising anything, is designed to be infuriating to annoy peole enough to pay you.
I get that revenue is important but I think what your doing is a real real disgrace as well as a real shame.
Regards
Tommy
Do not bother to use this app ……..
Whilst the app appears to be good and easy to use it is not long before it tries to “push upgrade” you by limiting the number of expense entries to just 3 in a day which is quite unacceptable.
When I pointed this out to Splitwise they just sent me a long and not relevant reply.
I responded to this over a week ago and have have heard nothing more since.
So until they stop this “push upgrade” policy then my recommendation is DO NOT BOTHER TO USE THIS APP
logging and settling shared expenses…
logging and settling shared expenses with other people has become SO easy with Splitwise. To make it even better, both the app and the website work incredibly well. 10/10 will keep using
Great for splitting expenses! Not so great for paying each other.
Great for splitting expenses with a travel group! My sister and I travel frequently and use the app regularly. You can record payments via cash, Venmo or Paypal manually. The pay option is extremely slow once initiated and then again to transfer to my bank account, so that particular feature gets Zero stars from me.
Okay for Dividing Expenses; Not Good for “Settling” Amounts Owed
While the app might be good for figuring out how to divvy up expenses, I wouldn’t recommend it for paying each other. It took a full week (5 business days) for a friend’s payment to post to my SplitWise account. After the payment posted, I went to transfer the funds to my bank account. There is a maximum transfer limit of $800 per WEEK. The transfer itself took another 5 days (3 business days) to post to my bank account. I still have to wait another 3 days before I can transfer the remaining balance into my bank account. And it won’t post until mid-week the following week.
Another friend paid me via Venmo, which posted to my Venmo account immediately and was credited the next business day after I initiated the funds transfer. She was able to mark on the Splitwuse app that we were “settled” up.

Seems okay if you know the phone number of each one in a group..if not the app won't work...unless I've missed something.??
I'm in a group where we regularly go out for a meal. I don't have their details so they are not in my contact list either...??
Great Software for splitting bills
Great Software for splitting bills! There is a premium version, but you don't need to purchase it for the app to work. Highly recommend.
