Scam or incompetence?

I ordered Madagascan pepper on 5th May and received acknowledgement of the order. It is now 19th and still no pepper. I have contacted them by email, without any response. I have heard of fraudulent scams with spice orders. I don't know whether this is a scam or just incompetence and no idea how to run a business.

Their shipping is abismal

I ordered 4 items for 19.00 and had to pay 4.50 in shipping (23% of the cost of the order.

Order arrived today, they refunded one of the items because it is out of stock, so now I have paid 4.50 to have an order shipped that is 14.00.

They could have said they would send later at their expense, they could have an up-to-date inventory on their website. They have neither.

Now I have to pay someone (definitely not them) to ship me the last item.

I agree with the last 3 reviews as I am a returning customer who had to 'nudge' Magali and get cross with her to finally receive my order. Luckily I was not out of pocket as my order finally arrived.
I knew they were away recently and emailed them to ask if they were back to completing orders. I emailed twice and got no reply. I phoned the number given several times and did not receive a reply - just a recording to say they are working in the warehouse so let's hope they are completing some poor customer's order at least.
I'm not willing to risk losing money on this one.
Shame because their stuff is good when you can get it but they are obviously not willing to invest in better customer service.
Don't they realise how much business they must lose because of this.
Sorry Magali but I've genuinely given you a fair chance.

Order placed on 27 February and not received yet. Have emailed twice, have tried to call (three times) and put message on their social media channels and still no reply or update on order. I can see their social media channels are being regular updated, so someone is working there and choosing to ignore! £50 out of pocket. I have used this company before and was a repeat customer. Now I am a very disappointed customer and obviously cannot risk ever placing an order again.

Can’t recommend

Can’t recommend, still waiting for my order placed in February. Have sent two emails, no replies. I will report them as scammers and get my money back from the credit card company.

No order received

I put an order in on 27th Feb 2026 which said it would be sent out the first week of March. I've called and emailed but no response and not received any of my order.
This is the first time I've used this company. What a disappointment.

Missing item, no refund

Missing item from my order with no prior notification that the order was incomplete. Instead, a note was included with the order saying that I had been refunded for the missing item. However, no refund has been received for my payment method. I wish I had checked these dreadful reviews before I ordered, as it is clear that this company is not equipped to run an online shop.

Slow and disorganised

Over a week with no message, saw order was just received status so cancelled. Over three hours later it was posted minus an item. Very small place, they knew I had cancelled but posted anyway. Parcel well packed and pretty but some spices bit stale. To pricy to send back,, chalk it down as experience.

Never again, better suppliers about.

I GIVE ZERO STARS

I would give them zero stars if this was an option available. I do not know why trustpilot doesn't offer this as a tick box option.

Anyway i placed an order online. The order was recieved and one item was missing. I contacted them by email and received no response. I then later discovered they had written on a small tiny piece of paper in the box that the item was out of stock. Why would you not put a compliments slip or something more obvious to inform me, not a small piece of torn paper. Not professional.

Also noticed the items had a very short shelf life. I know it's best before so you can still use it after the date, but in order to use at their best quality the
dates are too short.

I have since ordering sent them another email to ask if they have any spices available in glass or tin containers instead of plastic. I have just been ignored.

I dont like plastic containers.

No reply from them twice to 2 emails

Short shelf life

Not cheap, so spend your money, but get no real service.

Missing items

Unfortunately we only received part of our order despite being charged in full. Spice Mountain acknowledged our first email but have ignored subsequent emails asking for an update.

Wish I'd seen the reviews before I…

Wish I'd seen the reviews before I ordered. I needed some powdered freeze dried raspberry for a cake. I ordered on 5 Jul, despite paying for 1st class postage via Royal Mail, it still has not arrived, and I needed it yesterday (10 Jul). They are, at best, unreliable

Overall it worked out!

I ordered a range of spices from them as I recently got into cooking, and it took about 6 days to arrive, which was fine. The majority of my order was there, but it was missing one item, and instead of smoked paprika they sent Spanish paprika. I am aware that they tell you if a spice is delayed- but they haven’t informed me at all. They haven’t responded to emails.

Update: 28/06- I’m a bit confused as to what has occurred next…my missing spice + the correct item have arrived today, which is great. But I didn’t receive any email or communication from them at all! I’m glad they rectified the situation, and they do care about their customers.

Misleading Product Photos and Lack of Transparency in Product Descriptions

I’m very disappointed with my experience shopping at Spice Mountain and wouldn’t recommend them.
The annatto paste I received turned out to be a low-quality supermarket product, packed with ultra-processed ingredients (preservatives, synthetic acidity regulators) and derived from genetically modified sources. There was no image of the packaging or list of ingredients on the product page, which gave no indication of what I’d actually receive. I expected something worthy of a specialist supplier, but it went straight in the bin.
I also bought star anise, only to discover from the packaging—not the product listing—that it was a product of China, which I actively avoid. The country of origin wasn’t disclosed on the site, which is a serious omission for customers who care about sourcing.
Too many listings on the site are vague and generic, with no clear information about country of origin, ingredients, or GM content. This experience has completely eroded my trust in the brand.
There are far better spice retailers out there that offer clear, honest product listings. Next time, I will spend my money elsewhere.

Large selection

In terms of quality of the products: it's so and so. Seasoned Pioneers, for example, is better in most cases, albeit with a more limited range. Spice Mountain has a larger selection of herbs and Latin-American chillies with decent quality (among the best in UK!). I would not recommend their freeze-dried fruity ingredients (a bit bland) and ready-made spice mixtures (which, in some cases, stay powdery even when cooked out), but don't have any complaints about the raw unmilled spices. So, 3 stars for the varied quality.

My experience with their customer service, however, has been VERY good: I've never had to return anything or had a delivery gone missing, but they've been good at communicating when the order was delayed, and they respond to emails within a day. 5 stars!

I cannot fault this company so far

I cannot fault this company so far. My first order for spices was ordered and I received it the next day by Royal Mail tracked. Spices arrived in small plastic tubs and well packed in a box. Excellent service, thank you.

BLUE SALT FALSE ADVERTISING DO NOT BUY

The blue salt that is advertised is a lovely blue colour hence the reason it is called blue salt. However, what I received was WHITE salt with very few TINY specs of blue. I contacted Spice Mountain last week and sent them the pictures of the so called blue salt I received stating that what they were doing was false advertising and I requested a refund. I have not not responded. DO NOT buy this salt, do not waste your money
