A well-crafted scam – avoid at all costs

I subscribed to SonicBook Pro ($140) thinking I could test the platform, with the promise of a money-back guarantee. The result: no service provided, a categorical refusal to refund, and support that deliberately ignores any attempt at dialogue or amicable agreement.

After minimal use (a few pages generated – and no downloads: about 50 to be exact, which is less than the 100 pages included in the Standard version), I requested a legitimate and documented refund. The response: silence, then outright refusal, on the pretext that “the eBook had been generated.” No clear warning at the time of purchase, no transparency.

Worse still: Trustpilot has suspended SonicBook's rating because the company displays customer reviews in a misleading way on its website. A real scandal: they sell you a product based on false or misleading reviews.

I have decided to report this company to the DGCCRF and SignalConso for deceptive business practices and unjustified charges (French platforms for reporting online scams). I am prepared to file a class action lawsuit.

Avoid this platform: it is a well-oiled scam with no intention of honoring its commitments. No amicable solution possible = no credibility.

I used to watch others publish and get clients while I stayed stuck. This flipped the script. My eBook now works for me 24/7. Last weekend I was on a road trip with my family and when I came back... 7 new sales notifications. That's freedom.

My biggest fear was that nobody would care about my book. But the feedback has been incredible: 'clear, actionable, inspiring.' People now see me as an expert. This didn't just five me a book.

I've tried Canva, ChatGPT, even freelancers... nothing worked. I finally found the structure and speed I needed. In just 15 minutes, I had a professional eBook ready. My wife was shocked when she saw it published. It gave me back confidence in my business.

Ordered basic service, Ai is poor. Asked for refund within a week of purchase well under their 30 day guarentee. Emailed customer service three times. Still no response have not gotten my refund.

Update: They processed the refund. Took 3-4 emails. Should be more responsive.

I paid €27 for the basic service, which already didn’t work properly (technical errors with YouTube to PDF). Then, by a simple misclick on a feature, I was automatically charged €119 for the “Pro” version without any confirmation screen, checkbox, or recap of payment.

According to EU consumer law, a payment without explicit consent is unlawful. Yet, SonicBook insists this is “compliant” while refusing any refund. I never gave valid consent, and I’m now in a chargeback procedure with my bank and have reported their practices to the consumer authorities.

After researching, I discovered I am not the only one, many other users have faced the same problem. That makes it even more shameful: this is not how a serious company should earn money.

Customer trust is earned with transparency, not with hidden tricks. Very disappointing and I strongly advise others to be extremely cautious.

I created my first audio series in days, not weeks. SonicBook’s AI voices are crisp, expressive, and easy to direct. Can’t imagine producing without it now.

SonicBook made turning my script into a professional audio drama effortless. The voice quality and production tools are mind-blowing—felt like working with a full studio team!

I initially left a 1-star review due to disappointment with the basic $29 subscription on SonicBook.ai. I expected to access features shown in the promotional videos, but found that many of them — including the exact template used in their ads — were only available through further upgrades.

I was also surprised to see a watermark on my eBook, as that detail wasn’t clearly mentioned before purchase. To remove it, I would need to upgrade again.

At the time, I felt the experience was somewhat misleading and lacking in transparency, especially for a paid plan. However, after some reflection and interaction with their team, I’ve decided to update my rating to 3 stars. While the service didn’t fully meet my expectations, I recognize the potential of the platform and I appreciate that they are trying to build something valuable.

I still recommend that new users carefully review what’s included in each plan before purchasing, to avoid confusion. I hope the SonicBook team continues to improve clarity and customer experience in the future.

After my previous review that was negative, I was contacted by Valentin and told that my review was unfair as they have now made one of my books into a pdf off of the platform to help me and sent it to me, and asked me to remove my bad review. I cannot do that as the platform system is still not properly operative wrt the fact that it still cannot do the pdf's in proper fashion. I made some more changes to my book and asked Valentin if they could possibly in the meantime then also save the book again for me off of the platform so that I can at least go ahead. It now seems that I am being completely ignored. Valentin have not answered me in three days now. As I got onto trust pilot again today I saw that there seems to be problems here as well of how they are presenting and/or using the trust pilot reviews. Trustpilot flagged them for that.

Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about using AI for my ebook project but SonicBook changed my mind completely. The content flows naturally and the design options are way better than what I expected.
