Avoid SoLo Funds as a Lender – Money Stolen From Richard Freshwater
I lent money through SoLo Funds expecting the platform to be secure and transparent. Richard Freshwater (their General Counsel/Head of Regulatory Affairs) personally assured me that my account and funds were safe.
My account was frozen and no one from solo has responded or given me access to my money and its been over 5 days.
They platform forces you to lend to unqualified borrowers to meet made up ratio however those borrowers defaulted, "protections" turned out to be worthless credits I couldn't easily withdraw or use effectively, and my funds effectively disappeared. Support was unresponsive, and I feel the assurances about safety were misleading at best. As a lender, I lost principal with little recourse.
This peer-to-peer setup sounds community-oriented but carries high risk for lenders with poor safeguards. Multiple reviews echo similar issues with defaults, withdrawal problems, and hidden costs shifted to users. Borrowers may like the "no interest" marketing, but lenders beware – your money isn't as protected as they claim.

We understand our model does not follow traditional lending models as we wanted something different, something more human. So we are happy to provide some additional information regarding the loan funding process.
Once a Borrower submits a loan request to the Marketplace, it will then need to be accepted to be funded by a Lender (a user on the app such as yourself). This time period of waiting for your loan to be accepted can vary in time. However, when a loan is accepted to be funded by a Lender and both parties agree on the terms, it takes only minutes for the funds to be deposited into the Borrower's SoLo wallet.
Here are a few points to keep in mind:
1. Funding a loan request is up to the discretion of individual lending members. Borrowing members choose how much and when they pay, including if they want to add an optional tip to the lending member or donation to SoLo. Borrowing members have 100% optionality and control over the terms of their loan, and any amount paid in addition to the loan principal is voluntary. Electing not to tip or donate has no impact on a member’s ability to request a loan, nor does the SoLo platform give a member preferential treatment for including a tip or donation.
2. You can increase your trust in the platform by paying your loans back early or on time. This will increase your SoLo Score, and will also be visible to lending members in your loan history. The higher your score, the more trust future lenders will have in you.
3. Your loan will be active in the Marketplace for up to 3 days. At that time, if it remains unfunded, it’ll be automatically canceled. Upon cancellation, you can immediately create a new request.
4. We offer a SoLo Protection Program to Lenders which provides additional protection for your investments. Regardless of whether you choose to enroll in our Protection Program, we always make our best effort to recover funds for our Lenders.
5. We offer a grace period on all loans during which no late fees are applied.
