Solar-Estimate.org exists to provide an easy-to-use ballpark solar estimator so that homeowners can get a rough idea of the solar potential of their home before deciding if they want to talk to a solar company.Our calculator automatically places panels on your roof and adjusts the production estimate to the tilt angle, azimuth and shading of the best location for each array of panels on your roof. At the time of writing (December 2019) no other consumer website can do this. The only other place such accurate functionality is available is in professional solar design software used by solar companies. Our solar calculator also uses EIA and Genability electric use profiling for each region of the United States to estimate what your electricity use pattern looks like over the course of a day and over the seasons of the year. It then maps that hour by hour over the generation pattern from the proposed solar array. As such it is the only free online solar panel calculator that properly accounts for the effects of time of use billing on solar savings. Most online solar panel calculators just estimate annual usage and production, ignore this complexity and give inaccurate results. This last point is particularly important in California where all residential customers are now on time of use electric billing, making the times of the day you use power and the times of day you generate power critical to your solar savings analysis.

solar estimate process was a breeze
Since I was just starting the process of looking into solar and all that it entails I was pleased to come across the solar estimate site. The process was quick and easy, questions were straight forward and clear. I received a call from a local solar company within minutes of finishing the estimate.

The process was very easy and only took a few minutes. They provided a price range on the spot. This was very helpful for me to make an informed decision. And you don’t need to worry about anyone bothering you after. Once I told them I was not ready to move forward at this time they were very polite and respectful. I will definitely keep them in mind for future reference.

Calculator is pretty intuitive \
The calculator worked pretty well. I asked for some great detail and even added in a very minor ownership/identity check. For the WebUI, i would recommend getting rid of the radial button circles as they dont actually fill in. That combined with the slight selection delay could complicate things for some users. My only other recommendation would be allowing users to select more than one item at the end when asked, What other projects are you interested in. I selected windows but would have added insulation and HVAC to the list if i was able.

The estimator gave me an idea of generally where a solar installation on this house would wind up from a price standpoint.
