Warning!

Warning!
Booked a car of my choosing in advance and pre-paid. We did research in advance to make sure the car would fit our family and our luggage.
On site the person in the terminal couldn't accept my choice, "I simply had to have a better car" and forced me to accept another car.
This in it self would have worked if the car could actually fit my luggage as well as the originally booked car.
But worst of all. On top of this I was forced to pay additional € 400 so I could have vacation as planned. Scam! Breaking contract.
This is the worst I've ever experienced. And no one wants to help. "Someone will contact me" but that was a week ago and no one reached out. Will never recommend this company to anyone. Be aware.

SIXT Mallorca SCAM

SIXT Mallorca: Bait-and-Switch Tactics and Unwanted Insurance Charges
This was by far the worst car rental experience we have ever had, and we would strongly advise others to be extremely cautious when renting from SIXT in Palma de Mallorca.
We booked our car through SIXT's Danish website well before our trip. The rental included insurance coverage, and we paid the full amount in advance, expecting the pickup process to be straightforward.
Instead, the experience at the rental counter was anything but.
Without our agreement, the car model we had reserved was changed. The employee then repeatedly insisted that we needed additional insurance, even though we had already purchased coverage. Despite our repeated and explicit refusal to purchase additional insurance, we later discovered that it had nevertheless been added to our rental agreement, resulting in our rental cost nearly doubling.
The entire experience felt like a classic bait-and-switch: we did not receive the car we had booked, and we ended up paying for services we had explicitly refused.
What makes this even more disappointing is that we have clear documentation supporting our case, including:
• our original booking confirmation,
• proof that the rental was fully prepaid,
• and the rental agreement showing the unwanted insurance that was added.
We filed a formal complaint with SIXT Customer Service, expecting them to correct what we believe was an obvious mistake. Instead, they rejected our claim entirely.
This experience has completely destroyed our trust in SIXT.
If you rent a car from SIXT in Palma de Mallorca, check every single document before signing—even if the employee tells you it is "just the pickup paperwork." Verify that every charge matches your booking and refuse to leave the counter until any unwanted extras have been removed.
Based on our experience, we cannot recommend SIXT in Palma de Mallorca.

They are legal scammers

They are legal scammers. Even for about 30 euros. I booked for an bmw x2, there was options for the audi q3, which was about 20 30 euros less for the week. When i got to the desk, I was informed the x2 is only available for 4 days? Shocker. So where is my excess change? Why have you not reimburse the difference? Becareful of this guys, please be wary, they are crafty and sneaky, this is bad business overall. The audi q3 was so badly scuffed all over, there isnt one panel that doesnt have a scuff or a scratch! That is shocking, i had to spent around half an hour at night time, looking for all these defects so they couldn't hit me with charges! Some of the defects you need a torch as it was late and a good eye as the car was covered in sand / salt! Overall next time I will stick with a more local brand to Lanzarote. I will never ever use sixt again in my life. I will be blocking my card as I do not trust this company, I will be putting a complaint in also as they owe me the difference, which there is a clear difference if you put dates in and check the price from the audi q3 to the bmw x2, you'll see exactly what I am saying.

Not the mention this was all blamed on their new system when I arrived at lanzarote airport and was told theres nothing they can do unless you put a complaint in. What a joke. Avoid at all costs please for your own sanity.

Overall, awful system, which they claim is new. Clueless staff who cant even understand the issue or the fact that BMW is a more premium brand that AUDI and you have to constantly explain yourself. Rubbish cars that are masked in a blanked of salt or sand, clearly not been washed! And last but not least disappointment.

I was disappointed with Sixt Girona…

I was disappointed with Sixt Girona Airport because I was supposed to receive a CUPRA Terramar or a similar SFAR-class SUV, but instead I got an Opel Frontera.

From a customer perspective, these do not feel like equivalent cars. The Terramar is a noticeably larger SUV - around 13 cm longer and about 7 cm wider than the Frontera. It also offers a larger luggage area in typical versions, which matters a lot on a family trip.

I specifically chose this category because the Sixt website showed space for 5 suitcases, as I needed more luggage capacity for my trip. However, the Opel Frontera only seems to have space for around 4 small suitcases, which is not what I expected when booking this category.

The Opel also does not have rear air vents / rear climate control, which makes it less comfortable for passengers in the back. At 32 degrees heat!

Because of this, I don’t feel I received a car equivalent to the category I booked, and I would appreciate either a proper replacement from the booked category or suitable compensation.

Disappointing experience and no customer service

Update (30 June 2026):
SIXT responded publicly on Trustpilot asking me to send all the details to service@. However, I had already sent a detailed email to that address on 26 June 2026 and copied their supervisor. I have still not received any response. My complaint therefore remains unresolved.

I booked a Peugeot 3008 (or similar SUV) almost two months in advance because I was travelling to a wedding in Spain with five adults and luggage.

Less than 24 hours before pickup, SIXT's digital check-in suddenly offered me a Fiat 600, which is a much smaller vehicle and completely unsuitable for my booking.

Because I could not risk arriving at the airport without a suitable car, I felt forced to make another reservation and pay an additional €155.70.

Ironically, the vehicle I eventually received was a Citroën C3 Aircross, which belongs to the same category as the vehicle I originally booked. To this day, SIXT has never explained why I had to pay the extra amount.

After my rental, I contacted customer service several times. At first, they acknowledged my complaint and apologised for the inconvenience, but after that they simply stopped responding.

The car itself was fine. My complaint is about the way SIXT handled my reservation and, even more importantly, the complete lack of customer service afterwards.

I have kept all emails, screenshots and booking confirmations to support my review.

Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend SIXT.

Billed me twice for refuelling a car I have never rented. Had to spend hours on the phone to simply get them to even understand the problem. Now billing me for refueling another car, which I returned full. At this point, I'm not sure if it's incompetence or malice anymore.
Almost forgot to add: I now have a new pending transaction on my card, and they don't even have a record of it. They apparently ran out of fake reasons to charge me.

# Complaint for Google

(They replied this review asking for me to send an email to their support AND NEVER REPLIED THE EMAIL. Their customer service is non existent and I have almost 2k euros charged in my credit card for a Rental that NEVER happened due to a mistake from their side)
Never rent from this company, I will sue them

**SIXT Set Me Up to Fail - DO NOT RENT**

Here's what happened:

My reservation was for 20:30. Flight got delayed and landed at **21:45 instead.**

SIXT sent an email saying they "saw the delay" and that my flight would land at **23:30.** That's a LIE. I landed at 21:45. They probably just made up a later time so their staff could close at 22:00 and go home.

Then they sent another email: "Don't worry - pick up your car via self-service, no problem."

Full mobile check-in instructions. Everything. **Except the PIN for the locker.**

I got there at 21:45. Followed every step. But couldn't open the locker without the PIN.

Office closes at 22:00. I had 15 minutes left. They never sent it.

Called support around 23:00. They said office is closed, can't help.

**So SIXT:**
- Lied about when my flight would land
- Promised self-service would work
- Sent instructions but withheld the critical PIN
- Abandoned me when it failed

I took a taxi instead. Paid for nothing.

Scam & cover-up warning: Charging for Pre-Existing Damage at Valencia Airport!thought was a perfect…

I had what I thought was a perfect 1-week rental experience with Sixt at Valencia Airport, but the return process revealed a highly deceptive, fraudulent practice—followed by an intentional cover-up.

Upon returning the car, the agent claimed I caused two new scratches (>5cm) on the passenger-side front alloy wheel. I wasn't aware of hitting anything, but since the scratches were physically there, I allowed myself to be rushed. The agent pressured me to sign the paperwork quickly because "other clients were waiting." Trusting the company, I signed.

Once through airport security, I opened the Sixt app to inspect the car’s full history. I discovered a total of 5 previous damage claims on this specific vehicle.

Most shockingly: The passenger-side wheel already had a registered damage claim from 3 months prior to my rental. When I compared the photos, the "new" scratches the agent accused me of making were EXACTLY the same pre-existing scratches from three months ago. They are trying to charge multiple customers for the exact same damage. Knowing how shady this felt, I immediately took screenshots of both registrations as proof.

The moment my flight landed back in my home country, I opened the Sixt app again. Sixt had completely wiped the car's history. All 5 previous damage claims were suddenly gone, and only my new "claim" was visible. They actively tried to destroy the evidence to gaslight me. Little do they know, I already have the screenshots saved.

The Customer Service Nightmare
Trying to resolve this has been an absolute circus. My travel companion and I have called Sixt over 20 times.

The Ghost Hotline: Every time an agent tries to forward us to the Spanish "Damage Department," a Spanish automated message plays for 5 seconds and the line completely cuts out.

The Blame Game: When agents tried forwarding us elsewhere, we were connected to damage offices in the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands. All three refused to help because the rental took place in Spain.

Summary: Sixt Valencia is actively exploiting rushed customers at drop-off to double-bill them for old damages, and then scrubbing the app data so you can't prove it.

I have already emailed my dispute with side-by-side screenshot proof of the pre-existing damage that they tried to erase.

AVOID SIXT VALENCIA. If you have already rented from them, SCREENSHOT YOUR APP'S DAMAGE HISTORY IMMEDIATELY before you return the car!

Not the superior service you think you’re getting

We had been long term returning customers of SixT, but are now discovering that the premium prices you pay for this company buys you a swanky office experience but no more. It is no more ease, transparency or peace of mind than most other companies.

We had taken out a rental car to cover for a period when our own vehicle was being fixed. As such i had stated at pickup that I might be bringing the vehicle back early. No problem, they say, they will give me a discount if so. The contract I signed was in Spanish (with no other language offered) and the terms of early return were not explained then even though the agent knew I was planning an early return. They also did not send a copy to me by email and it wasn’t available on the app, so checking the contract was virtually impossible anyway. I returned the car 2 days and 6hours early, and the representative on return said they would process a discount and let me know about it. Later on I discovered they had increased my daily rate on the invoice, and charged me the full amount anyway.

When I enquired about it, the agent responded that I had signed a contract that said I needed to have returned it more than 2 days early (but less than 4 days). This was the first time I had heard this and explained my reasons why I felt it unfair. They insisted it was all my fault, that really what the contract meant was I needed to return it 3 days early, and offered me a voucher for a small amount as a “gesture of goodwill”.

Realistically, as this would mean having to rent from the company again, and pay what would be rates way above the going rate for other companies, I did not see the point of accepting this.

It is such a shame that a company that positions itself as a premium brand, and charging as such, would either intentionally or carelessly not train its staff to explain relevant rules, hide random bits of important information in the fine print of a contract that the customer doesn’t have access to, and interpret its own vague terms to suit themselves.

Sadly a case of a large company that is putting mass profit ahead of consumer care. I actually took out another similar rental shortly after from Hertz for one third of the price, was offered a detailed explanation of everything (including how to start the car!) and am now rather ashamed I even went to SixT in the first place. In the car rental industry, there are enough companies in the same space that would pretty much do the same job. The extra price you pay for SixT does not buy you anything extra, you are at risk of the same practices of hidden penalties, sloppy service and lack of fairness as anywhere else. I would advise you shop more widely and vote with your feet to ensure you don’t support companies with priorities or practices you don’t agree with.

I rented a BMW from Sixt together with…

I rented a BMW from Sixt together with my brother and a friend. When I collected my car, it was parked in a dark area and already had visible scratches. I immediately reported this to the employee at the desk and was advised to make a video of the vehicle and keep it as evidence.
Despite having followed their instructions and having no incidents during the rental period, I later received a claim for damaged wheel rims, which I strongly dispute. Unfortunately, their system does not allow video uploads, making it difficult to provide the original evidence.
I am disappointed with the way this matter has been handled and hope Sixt will review the evidence fairly and resolve the issue appropriately.

Pre-existing damage

[UPDATE: Following my review, they reached out directly to apologize. After double-checking their files, they confirmed the damage was pre-existing (from March) and corrected the error. Really glad this is finally sorted in 2 days, even if it took a bit of a push to get their attention.]

It is engaging in predatory and fraudulent damage claims. Upon returning my vehicle, the staff accused me of a scratch that was clearly documented in their own system back in March! They knowingly hid this pre-existing damage, hoping I wouldn't notice or wouldn't have the proof to challenge them. This is not a mistake; it is a calculated, dishonest, and predatory practice designed to scam customers.
The reality of their "Customer Service": The local phone number (+34 971 704960) is effectively non-functional.
If you value your money and your peace of mind, DO NOT rent from Sixt at this location. They are untrustworthy, deceptive, and completely unprofessional.

Big disappointment

I chose Sixt at Alicante Airport in advance in order to avoid speculation and unfair practices that cheaper car rental companies often use if you don’t purchase expensive insurance. I turned to Sixt with confidence, expecting professionalism and quality for the money paid.
After my evening arrival, I went to pick up the car. The employee initially spent a long time looking for the keys to the vehicle, which he was unable to find. The whole situation seemed very unprofessional and chaotic. What surprised me was that no one actually handed over the car to me or prepared a report on its condition and any existing damage. The employee simply pointed in the direction of the parking row where I could find the vehicle.
I told myself: okay. I was tired, it was evening, and I still had a long journey to my final destination ahead.
I extended the car rental twice during my stay, as I originally didn’t know how long I would need the car. When I returned it, I made sure it was clean and in the same condition as when I received it. The employee took the keys from me, and when I asked if that was everything, she said yes. No one inspected the car with me upon return. I found it suspicious, but I thought—this is Sixt, not some shady rental company that will later invent problems.
Unfortunately, the exact opposite happened. Four days after my return, I received an email showing scratches on the vehicle, and the rental company requested my statement. I returned the car in 100% condition and have no idea what happened to it during the four days after my departure. No one inspected it with me, and no one showed any concern at the time.
Are these the practices of Sixt? Showing no interest in the customer and then accusing them of damaging the vehicle and trying to extract money from them? I truly did not expect this from a brand like Sixt.
I documented the entire situation and responded to the email, also sending my complaint to Sixt headquarters in Spain. A week and a half later, I received a response stating that suddenly there was no problem.
I was prepared to use all legal options under European consumer protection law to seek justice.
If you still decide to rent a vehicle from Sixt at Alicante Airport, keep the following in mind: always insist on a vehicle inspection both at pick-up and return, and on having a written report prepared. Otherwise, you may end up as unpleasantly surprised as I was.
As for me— Sixt never again. And I believe that personal responsibility should be enforced for the employees involved.

Horrific experience

I have used Sixt for years because it has always been reliable. Based on that experience, I decided to book a monthly rental and even called in advance to confirm that the vehicle I had reserved would be available upon arrival.

I was assured there would be no issue and that the car would be waiting for me.

After travelling from Norway to Spain, I arrived to find that the vehicle provided was not the one I had reserved, but the smallest electric car in their fleet. The explanation given was simply that it belonged to the “same category.” The vehicle was not suitable for my needs, as my dog could not safely fit inside. I therefore had no choice but to refuse it.

What was most disappointing was that no meaningful solution was offered. Instead, I was left to deal with the consequences of Sixt’s mistake.

When I contacted customer service, I was connected to a senior manager whose attitude was dismissive and unhelpful. After trying to explain the situation, I asked how she would feel if she had travelled for hours only to arrive in a foreign country and discover that the vehicle she had specifically reserved was unavailable, leaving her stranded in the Barcelona heat. The conversation was so unproductive that I ultimately ended the call.

The situation was made worse by the fact that the rental office is located approximately 30 minutes from the airport by Uber. As a result, I found myself stranded with luggage, personal belongings, and my dog, without transportation and without any practical assistance from the company.

After reluctantly agreeing to accept the unsuitable vehicle as a temporary solution, customer service then informed me that they could not understand why the booking would not process correctly. By this stage I had spent hours making repeated calls, my phone battery was nearly exhausted, and no one seemed capable of resolving the problem.

The final outcome was that I was left without a vehicle despite having prepaid for the rental. At the same time, my deposit remained tied up, making it significantly harder to secure an alternative rental elsewhere on short notice.

This experience fell far below the standard I expected from Sixt. What should have been a straightforward vehicle collection became hours of stress, inconvenience, and uncertainty. Unfortunately, after this experience, I no longer have confidence in the company and would not trust them with future bookings.

I did not get to work on time, or arrive at my final destination on time. All because of Sixt.

The Worst Rental Experience of My Life – Avoid Sixt at Mallorca Airport

Sixt Mallorca Airport is the worst rental experience I’ve ever had. Friendly at pickup, but when you return the car, no one checks it with you. Hours later they claim a “damage” on the roof — something invisible unless you open the rear door, which I never used. Their platform is cold, automated, and impossible to talk to a human. They simply blame you. I rent monthly and never had issues with any other company. First and last time with Sixt.
Update on 3rd July: I’ve contacted them by email as per their reply to my opinion on Trustpilot. Never received a reply!
Once again: never trust Sixt! Worst customer service ever!!

Clutch went out after 50 km on a rental car with about 31000 Km on the odometer and Sixt billed me 704 Euro for a clutch repair!!!

On 19.March.2026 I rented a Renault Captur from Sixt at Gran Canaria Airport with 31000 Km on the odometer and it developed a clutch problem after about 50 km. I contacted the company on 21.March.2026 and they sent a tow truck for the car. I went back to the airport (my expense!) where they apologized and replaced it with a different car. End of story? No. on 28.May.2026 I received a bill for 704.59 Euro for the clutch repair!!!

Anyway, it seems like musical char. If a wear and tear problem develops during your rental contract, you pay for it! So be aware.

P.S., The replacement car was nice and the airport counter people were sympathetic...that's about the only nice thing I can say about this experience.

Charged for damage I did not do and took payment without consent

Absolutely terrible experience with Sixt Barcelona/Tarragona.

I returned the vehicle exactly as instructed and even attempted to contact Sixt on the day of return so the car could be inspected before I left the car park - nobody answered. Then, 9 days later, I received an email claiming there was damage to the vehicle.

I immediately disputed the claim within 24 hours and requested evidence including timestamps, inspection reports, and proof the damage occurred during my rental period. Despite multiple emails and calls, I received little to no meaningful response.

The most concerning part is that Sixt’s story does not add up. They claimed the damage was identified on the same day as my return, however the metadata attached to their own photos and inspection report shows a date 10 days later. When questioned on this discrepancy, they ignored it completely.

Their email also clearly stated that if I responded within 14 days, my card would not be charged while the matter was being reviewed. I responded well within that timeframe, disputed liability immediately, and explicitly stated that I did not authorise any charge. Despite this, they charged my card anyway without resolving the dispute or providing proper evidence.

I have now escalated the matter to the European Consumer Centre Ireland and will continue pursuing the issue formally.

Based on my experience, I would strongly advise anyone renting from Sixt to think twice!

Very disappointing handling of a customer dispute and extremely poor communication throughout.

Absolutely one of the worst car rental experiences I have ever had. Arrived at 9:20am for a 9:30am Audi Q8 booking through a corporate arrangement and ended up wasting almost four hours due to massive queues, poor organisation, and an obviously understaffed branch. Customers were standing outside waiting in the heat while staff seemed more focused on upselling insurance and extras instead of processing bookings efficiently.

The staff were extremely rude, aggressive, and dismissive throughout the entire process. After waiting close to an hour to finally reach the counter, my partner was asked to bring her passport and ID because the credit card was under her name. She came downstairs immediately, only for us to then be told to go back outside and rejoin the queue from the very beginning again. When I explained that this made no sense after already waiting so long, the staff member became confrontational and ultimately refused to give us the car altogether, while constantly changing the explanation from “account blocked” to “credit card issue.” Even the Sixt hotline confirmed there was no block on the account and that the reservation could easily be amended. Completely unacceptable customer service and far below what anyone would expect from a premium international brand.

Unhappy Experience with Sixt Car Hire in Palma,Majorca

When we returned the car on 8.3.2026, a Sixt German male staff member said, " Car was fine and you will receive an email confirming this."
I trusted him so I only took photo of milometer to demonstrate that I had returned the electric Mini Countryman full of electric charge the number of Km I finished the car on.
On 8.3.26, I received 2 emails from Sixt and did not open them because the German Sixt man said the car was returned fine.
On 9.3.26, I received Damage report & I replied car was not damaged when I returned it. The German Sixt man who checked my car had told me, " Car is fine. You will receive an e-mail confirming this." I replied to say that Damage was done at the airport by some passenger forcing their suitcase past the car because some palma airport car hire spaces were small and that passenger was too lazy to walk all the way around the airport to get to their hire car. So he/she forced his/her suitcase around the driver's side of the car. ( I only know this after I accessed the car damage photos.)
A spanish lady Sixt manager then contacted me on Sixt App for an explanation of the how the damage arose. I told her what I thought happened. She replied back to say she believed me and nothing will be charged. She then asked me if I would book car hire with Sixt again. I replied," Yes" because she finally understood my situation and agreed with me. However, now I cannot not find her name and the conversation we had exchanged on the Sixt app, after 263.39 Euros for the "damage" was charged to my credit card on 7.5.2026!
There are no email records of the conversation I had with her because the whole conversation was recorded on Sixt app.
Looks like the Sixt app can be amended by Sixt staff to reflect what Sixt wants to portray.
Am I upset? Of course, I am. Very upset.
I want to warn others not to book with Sixt car hire because I will never book with Sixt Car Hire ever again.
