Make your next MTB upgrade a skills upgrade with Single Track School

I attended the Fast-track Singletrack Skills course on 25th-26th August 2018. From my first contact with Single Track School I was impressed by a thoroughly professional approach guiding me to the right course and putting me at ease. The skills weekend was excellent with clear explanations that included the 'Why' as well as the 'What and How'. Through gradually building up from the basic elements by the end of the second day I was comfortably enjoying a level of single track mountain biking I would not have dreamt of attempting just two days earlier. Danielle - was our coach. She was excellent at taking each participant out of their comfort zone in a structured and safe way ensuring we all progressed. There is much truth in the saying that "Life begins outside the comfort zone'. If you are thinking of enrolling in one of single track schools courses just do it. The best upgrade for any mountain bike/er is a skills upgrade with Single track school.

Finding my flow

I did a one day "improver" course a few weeks ago with Danielle,
The course itself is structured very well, and Danielle herself is amazing at her job.

2 years of bad habits ironed out, and lots of riding to do in order to improve my flow.
Will be back for the "roots n rocks" in a few months.

Anyone sitting on the fence? Book it, you wont regret it. (Get to the venue on time, optionally take out "cancelation insurance" to avoid any stress...

Did the SingleTrack Improver course…

Did the SingleTrack Improver course (with 2 mates) on Sunday last week. Danielle, course leader, was hugely knowledgeable, skilled and experienced in coaching, really helping us improve our technique in manuals, cornering and braking. Then did a guided ride around the Surrey Hills which was excellent. A brilliant day out on the bike with plenty to practice and improve!

Singletrack Fundamentals course

Having just completed the London to Brighton off Road challenge and discovered the Surrey Hills area, I decided I'd like to discover more of this area.
The only problem was I was new to mountain biking and realised I need some Lessons.
Having searched the internet, I came across the company Singletrack School , which carries out its courses in this area.
I contacted them by email which they responded to straight away, and I was booked onto the next Singletrack Fundamentals course.
Danielle emailed me all the information about the course and any forms that I need to fill in and send back, which you will need to complete before you can ride.
Make sure you read through them carefully and bring all the stuff they ask you to.
The day arrived and I found my way to Holmbury Youth Hostel car park, which is one of there meeting points. Please give yourself plenty of time to get there as the instructors cannot hang around waiting for late arrivals!! It's not fair on the other participants on the course.
Danielle was taking the course and she provided coffee tea and energy snacks on arrival, if your on time which we all were.
The day started off checking our bikes were all in good working order and the benefits of tyre pressures, all of which I found very informative.
We then head off to an area on one of the fire roads , where the practical side of the lesson started.
Danielle talked as through all the core basic fundamental techniques of mountain biking, like the ready position, effective braking, tackling small obstacles, controlling your bike in turns and down hill, efficient riding and the list goes on.
After each subject we put it into practice, not always successfully but with a lot of enthusiasm.
By the end of the lesson we all had progress and were looking forward to putting are new skills to the test in the afternoon.
Danielle had worked really hard to make the morning enjoyable and informative and was a great instructor.
We had a lunch break, bring your own sarnies and then headed off to tackle some trails.
I had a fantastic afternoon riding the trails, trying to put my new found skills to the test.

Overall I had great day thanks to Danielle and would recommend anybody starting out mountain biking to get on one of there courses, before you build to many bad habits in to your riding.
I've enjoyed it so much that I ride once or twice a week with Horsham Mountain Bike Club in the area.
I will also be going back for the in the spring to do the Skills weekend course.

Thanks again

Weird

Unfortunately I was too ill to attend, and was treated rudely when I asked if it was possible to reschedule, and lost the money.

My friend, who I was supposed to be going with still went, and described riding around traffic cones in a car park for 3 hours before going anywhere near singletrack. He described it as weird and said I was lucky to miss it.

Wouldn't recommend it.

Hi Ian

Thank you for your review.

We must point out that when you booked on the 23rd of September 2017 you stated that you had "read and understood our booking terms & conditions, in particular, those that deal with cancellations".

You were reminded to check you had "read and understood our terms & conditions, in particular, those that deal with cancellations" via email on the 25th of September 2017.

On the 27th of September, you returned your booking forms in which you signed a statement confirming that you "have had brought to my attention the terms and conditions relating to this booking, in particular, those concerning cancellation."

When you rang a few days before your course to say you were too ill to attend you responded aggressively when the above was pointed out to you. Our staff are not employed to be shouted at over the phone when giving out information which you have already been advised of on a number of occasions.

In regard to the content of our courses, we never do any skills coaching in car parks, not even with total beginners. All of our courses are coached out in the forest on forest roads and on singletrack trails. We do use coloured markers, not cones, when coaching as is quite normal in many sports including coaching football at the highest level for example.

It is unfortunate that you did not attend your course with us as you would have had a great time and learned a lot of new skills. Perhaps taking out cancellation insurance would help avoid this situation arising in future with ourselves or other activity companies who all operate late cancellations in the same manner. FYI we did advise you to do this three times during the booking process.

All the best with your mountain biking into the future.

Happy trails!

Single Track School Discover Mountain Biking

"Me and my son are completely new to mountain biking and Danielle was excellent at teaching us good habits.
The Morning session was a technique session which was really good where the instructor went through many things including the ready position, braking effectively, tackling obstacles such as large root stumps, going down hill through narrow paths. All of these things at first seemed frightening but with Danielle's expert teaching we were able to conquer all of these.
The afternoon session - we went on the trails and were able to put into practice the techniques we learnt in the morning.

I feel it has left us in a position where we can now actually go off on a trail and put into practice all the stuff we were taught and then come back for more - once we have nailed all the basics.

Full marks to the instructor Danielle, who put on such a great course.

Regards Bal

Staff friendly but course cancelled at short notice.

Staff have been very helpful. I received a gift voucher early October for Single Track Fundamentals, but there have been limited dates to use this voucher. I confirmed a date with them , but sadly the course was cancelled with only 5 days prior notice.
Now I have to wait several months before they are likely to run the course again.
I cannot rate the course itself until I've taken it, the content looks excellent, just a shame I have to wait so long to benefit from it.

Hi Lorraine

Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated.

We're a seasonal business with our core months being from April until October. We do advertise plenty of courses outside of these months with the exception of December when we have a well-earned rest.

Since receiving your gift voucher we have advertised this particular course on twelve dates and ran it seven times. The next course date advertised is on Friday the 12th of January 2018.

The course you chose was the last but one of the year and sadly we had to cancel the date as it was not viable to run it with just two participants. We gave you five days notice in accordance with our terms of sale which can be found in your pre-course pack and are also highlighted on the booking page on our web site as you check out.

Rest assured that when you do attend your course you'll have a brilliant time updating and improving your off-road riding skills.

Thanks again for your feedback. See you in 2018.

Happy trails!

Great course and great instructors!

This is the second course I've attended with Singletrack School and it won't be the last. Both courses taught me a lot about how to better ride my bike, as well as how to maintain it. All of the instructors were professional and incredibly knowledgeable and skilled - they had an answer for every question thrown at them and were always incredibly encouraging and positive. The Surrey Hills are a great setting for the training too, loads of trails of all shapes and sizes.

Brilliant day out.

As an off-road novice I took the Introduction to Mountain Biking full day course and really enjoyed it.
There was plenty of riding and opportunity to put the lessons into practice and Danielle was nothing if not patient.
The setting was also splendid set in the beautiful Surrey Hills.
Highly recommended.

Fundamentals course goes into why as …

Fundamentals course goes into why as well as how so that you can buy in to what you're being taught. You really have to do the afternoon guided ride to get the most out of it though.

I did the foundations course

I did the foundations course. It was structured really well with individual feedback. It was great to understand how to move around the bike and the time spent on bike set up was very worthwhile. The next day I was out at a bike park singletrack and tried some stuff I would have refused the week before...even a tiny rock garden. Highly recommend!!
