Incompetent reps who just direct you to the website

Incompetent, lazy, poor customer service. You'll find this out when they decide to deny authorizations for care that you need and you call to appeal. You'll get dismissive, defensive, and combative representatives when you try to hold them accountable for the low level of service.

I pay nearly $9000 per year for Select Health monthly premiums, copays, and for medications they do not cover, but should. I'll be switching in the next open enrollment.

Be ready to spend HOURS trying to find in-network care

I just switched to Select Health, and all I can say is ... be ready to spend a lot of time researching what's in-network. Their provider directory is mind-blowingly bad and difficult to use. I'm pretty insurance savvy (have changed a few times over the last few years), and it just took me two hours to figure out where to get a screening mammogram in-network. I scheduled something, but still not 100% sure it's in-network because the hospital is listed but the outpatient breast imaging center is not. I called their customer service, and the agent was literally searching on their platform, doing all the same searches I had just done and reading me a list of radiology providers. None of which were actually did mammograms. I had a similar experience with trying to get an ortho appointment after dislocating my finger. They really need to step up their customer service game and learn their own networks better.

They promise a $20 wellness reward for…waiting waiting waiting

They promise a $20 wellness reward for a flu shot on their website to be given 4-6 weeks after the service, and here I am FOUR MONTHS and still getting the corporate runaround, obfuscations, and unfulfilled promises. Stay far far away from selecthealth medicare, they are junk insurance in a junk national healthcare scam.

Exceptional Customer Service

I live in Idaho and had a Medicare advantage plan through Select Health for two years. I chose something like a HMO plan. The first year I had zero premiums which is not unusual for a MAP. The second year I paid $38 a month. The plan, like an HMO is a little restrictive and yet, with a lot of choices in providers. Select Health really shines in their customer care. When you call you are on a good clear connection with a person you can understand and they work hard at solving your issues and explaining things to you. Exceptional service. This plan is way better than just plain Medicare. Imagine trying to get ahold of a government employee about a problem you're having.
