SDCCU Accepted My Pay-for-Delete, Took My Money, Then Denied Me a Checking Account — and Reddit Silenced My Story
I want to share my experience with San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) in the hopes of helping others avoid what happened to me.
In July 2025, I went in person to a local SDCCU branch and submitted a pay-for-delete agreement to settle an old charged-off account. The agreement was acknowledged, stamped, and accepted. I paid the full amount via money order, and I was told that after five business days, I could return to open a checking account.
When I returned in August, I was denied a checking account, even though the agreement had been fulfilled. I was only allowed to open a savings account — and to make it worse, they ran a credit inquiry without telling me. The reason for the denial? The same negative account they agreed to delete was still showing on my credit report.
Even after multiple attempts to follow up, SDCCU has failed to honor the agreement. My credit continues to be affected, and no formal explanation has been provided.
I originally shared this story on Reddit, hoping to warn others. It was respectful, detailed, and honest — and it was removed without warning or explanation. I can’t help but wonder if institutions like SDCCU have the power to suppress criticism on platforms where people go to speak the truth.
There is no transparency, no accountability, and no justice here — just silence.
This is not just about money — it’s about trust, dignity, and fair treatment. If you’re considering banking with SDCCU, please think twice.
