Just a bad business

My early experience with the organization was OK. They have hired sub par writers that aren’t worth the money. Worse than that they put our company on a recurring billing and we didn’t use them for years. They are not a reputable organization. I’m sure they’ll be out of business within a year. There’s too much real talent out there and with all the amazing AI tools they will go the way of Blockbuster.

1 Star – Avoid at All Costs

This company makes it nearly impossible to cancel your subscription. Despite multiple written requests to cancel, they continue to insist that I schedule a phone call—no online option, no clear path to simply stop the charges. It’s frustrating and feels like they’re just trying to trap people into paying for something they no longer want. Avoid if you value transparency and fair treatment.

You can't even make an account on the damn thing so who knows what it's like to work for them. You make an account by putting in your info like:
John
Smith
Email

Create account:
AAANNNDDD BAM suddenly it's like "you already have an account and YOU EVEN GET AN EMAIL IN YOUR INBOX SAYING SOMEONE IS TRYING TO GET INTO YOUR ACCOUNT WHEN YOU NEVER MADE ONE. Then you try to reset password which might as well be a blank page because no matter how many times you stick your email in (and you can try multiple emails, or even create a brand new email and the same thing will happen) and then you just, never get pass that. This company is either a scam, or just the worst and in DESPERATE need of website renovations.

Never work for Scripted

Never work for Scripted. I spent a lot of time working on my first job for them. My pay was halved because the editor made a few basic changes and said the original work was not good enough, though the final result was almost completely mine. I complained, and they revoked my account. They never even paid me the halved amount. I'm not sure how they are able to remain in business with practices like this.

Writers Beware

Writers Beware: I wrote for Scripted for over a decade. When I started, they were writer-friendly. Over the past few years, they have been difficult and erratic. I was a platinum-level writer with a 4.7 review average from 1261 reviews when I quit. The work became spotty, and the administration would randomly demote me for unspecified complaints (never offering examples) that postponed my payments. The editors would sometimes force me to make incorrect changes to my copy. Then they would restore my platinum status in a month or so, and we'd move on. Recently, I wrote 8 blogs for a new client. After I had submitted my drafts, Scripted converted the job to AI with an editor and tried to stiff me completely. After some persuasion on my part, they paid me half. Unethical does not cover it. I will never work for them again. Writers, stay away. They are now an AI mill.

Untrustworthy

First, I was foolish, unaware I would be charged monthly. I thought I was using the money I had in my account from the past. My mistake. However, I have been trying to cancel my subscription since February 19th, and the company is just giving me the runaround. Telling me I must do a Zoom call to cancel. I don't want to do it (Zoom) and should not have to do it. I had my card cancel the payment, and Scripted queried this and retook the money. Now I have to wait for the letter from my credit card company, fill out paperwork, find all the emails, and send to cancel this.
I hope they don't treat their writers the way they treat their customers.

I used to be very happy with Scripted

I used to be very happy with Scripted. The work used to be plentiful, the team responsive and all was good in my world.

However, in mid-July, all that changed. They made some changes to their infrastructure (got rid of Smartmatch jobs) without telling their writers, which had a devastating effect on my income. I went from supporting myself to 2 or 3 jobs in as many months. This left me scrambling to find another platform and other clients to fill that void. I’ve never been successful in getting enough volume of projects with their current platform of “pitching” for jobs.

Their “help” desk is also not helpful to writers unless you are a Gold-rated writer. I was a gold-rated writer until I mysteriously got demoted and no one seemed to be able to tell me why or how I could correct the mysterious problem that got me demoted.

I recently requested help with an impossible deadline. I finished the job the afternoon before and upon waking the next morning I saw that I had a message that left me with 1.5 hours to correct a huge list of unnecessary revisions. I don’t usually get revision requests so it was a complete surprise. I’m imagining it had something to do with my mysterious demotion.

I knew there was no way I could complete all of it in 1.5 hours so I requested an extension. I was refused. Flat-out. I was told to message the client and ask. I explained this was an editorial deadline, not a deadline from the client. I was still refused and told to contact the client. I know from experience there was no way the client would get back to me in the time allotted. So, instead of being able to do an excellent job that was up to my standards, I had to half-ass it, just to get it done.

Another issue is their editors. I am a professional proofreader so I rarely make mistakes. I’m not perfect but errors tend to jump out at me. Sadly, some of the Scripted editors are woefully unqualified to hold the title of editor. I have had many issues where the editor actually created mistakes when “editing” my pieces. These aren’t small mistakes either. They are glaring in-your-face mistakes which the writer ends up being blamed for since we have no way of correcting the created errors once they are sent to the client.

They have also started a practice of buying reviews. They pay their writers with a $20 gift card if they’ll leave a review on one of their selected platforms, i. e. Trustpilot, Yelp, and something else. I find this a very shady practice so I’m leaving this review absolutely free.

I truly wish I had better things to say but in my years with the company, they don’t treat their writers very well and the pay is abhorrent. You are better off going with a private company (not a content farm) that needs a writer. That’s what I ended up doing and as a freelancer, I am being paid more than double what Scripted paid me.

No, Scripted, you are not sharing my happy place anymore.

SCAM ALERT

Any company that won't answer the phone and forces you to have a ZOOM call to cancel your subscription is sketchy. No one answers the phone, and to cancel, you must have a Zoom call with someone for 5 - 10 minutes at an inconvenient time for THEM. This is clearly a scam, a way for them to continue to draft subscription charges because they don't offer an easy way to cancel services.

I've got no beef with Scripted

I've been writing for Scripted for over a year and am overall very pleased with the experience. It's hands-down better than other content farms out there. If you're a good writer, and you want to learn more about SEO to optimize your content, you should apply to Scripted. I've found their help desk genuinely, well, helpful and usually pretty speedy to respond. The pay rate varies, but in general it's pretty fair. Good side hustle.

Longtime Scripted writer

I've worked with scripted for nearly 10 years and they've provided consistent income. I've had the opportunity to work with many different kinds of companies and build my marketing portfolio. You can tell they care about making things fair and streamlined for both writers and customers, and there have been a lot of updates to the platform over the years.

I would absolutely recommend scripted over any other writing platform on the internet (and yes, I've worked with a few).

One of the best platforms for freelancers

Generally speaking, Scripted is an awesome platform for freelance writers. There is a consistent flow of work, really interesting clients, and the rates are usually way better than other freelancing platforms. The support team is also very fast to respond and they're understanding if something comes up and you can't complete work for whatever reason (rarely happens, but if it does, it's nice to know they've got your back). It would be better if Scripted opened up the writing jobs across industries/categories, as sometimes the job board gets a bit stagnant. The only thing I don't like about the platform is the Blog Ideas (suggest a blog post idea to a client) feature - I've submitted a few in the past and clients never seem to get back to you.

Awesome gig for freelancers - very lucrative and always lots of work available

I have been writing for Scripted since around 2012 and have had only good experiences writing for their site as a freelancer. At different points, I have been able to secure enough steady work through their platform that it has been my full-time gig and allowed me to travel and work remotely from all over the world. At other times it has been a wonderful supplement on top of other contract work I have.
They work with a ton of awesome clients across diverse industries like Healthcare, Sales & Marketing, Tech, and Travel to name a few. The platform is super easy to navigate, propose jobs to clients, check on deadlines, get edits back, etc.
Things to be aware of, however, are that it takes a little time and effort for a brand new writer to get a steady flow of work coming through. It helps to pitch/propose as often as you can and to start with pretty low rates just so you can build up your writer score and portfolio. Once you have established that you are a solid writer, you can start raising your rates and taking advantage of SmartMatch, which gives you the chance to claim higher-paying jobs as a qualified writer.
Sign up and stick with it! Over time, you can be favorited by various clients and get requests to write ebooks, white papers, video scripts and more. Generally the topics are really interesting (and straightforward) and they have a great staff and customer support team who are responsive and easy to work with. Highly recommend.

Long-Term Scripted Writer

I have worked as a writer with Scripted for around 7 years and have had nothing but great experiences.
The pay is fair and always on time. I love the ability to choose which projects I want to be a part of and which do not align with my skill set. I always receive timely responses from their customer support team and highly recommend them to other writers!

Great platform for freelance writers

I have been a freelance writer working through the Scripted platform for many years. In that time, the platform has undergone many significant changes to improve things for both writers and clients. As a writer, it is easy to get good-paying jobs on a frequent basis, and I've secured several regular clients as well. Support staff are also very friendly and helpful. I look forward to continuing a strong working relationship with Scripted.

Great gig for freelance writers

As a freelance writer, I worked for a variety of content mills. Scripted is the best I've worked for by far, mainly because of the volume of work available at a decent price.

My favorite Scripted jobs are the SmartMatches, which don't require a proposal. SmartMatches are sent to several qualified writers and whoever claims them first gets the jobs.

I'm currently working full-time as an editor, but I definitely would work for Scripted in the future.

I've had a great experience as a writer and have hundreds of repeat clients

I'm a writer with Scripted and have been for about 10 years. When first starting out, I mostly picked up orders from the queue where all invited writers can get work. As time went on and I was able to showcase my abilities to clients, however, I began to get direct requests from clients. In my time, I've written ebooks, blogs, white papers, website pages, video scripts, and more for clients large and small. I've had hundreds of clients at this point decide to request work specifically from me after seeing my writing style and ability, and when this happens, I receive higher pay than projects that are just available for everyone. Scripted has been my primary source of income for nearly the entire time I've written there, and I plan on staying with them for the foreseeable future. I've got several clients who reach out to me specifically now, and I've established great relationships with them in the process. Love the platform!

Good for extra cash, not easy on timing

Scripted is a decent platform to make some extra cash. However, it’s very unpredictable. Clients are usually looking for the cheapest price, so understand that if you charge your worth, you probably won’t get many jobs. Timing is also very tricky. The jobs begins as soon as the client accepts your pitch, even if it was weeks ago when you pitched for the job, so be careful about pitching if you know you have some busy weeks coming up. Deadlines are very quick also, which doesn’t usually leave sufficient time to research, so stick to topics that you know well. Good platform for making some extra cash, but just know that it will not be consistent and you don’t have much control.
