Say Something in Welsh excels at what it promises to deliver- a shockingly efficient tool to mould you into a Welsh speaker. Unlike other language learning alternatives, far less attention is paid to long, drawn out explanations of grammar that is overwhelming for a beginner, instead focusing on what is most important about language- speaking! I personally find it works amazingly as a supplemental tool to increase the amount of speaking I do whilst learning, but it can easily be used by itself!

Its an incredible tool for language learning- offering not just Welsh, but Spanish, Dutch, Manx, Cornish and very soon far more languages! It is currently priced at £10 a month, which is an incredibly fair price for just how much content it offers.

As well as being a tool to learn language, it is also supplemented by the SSiW Forum, which is highly active with many helpful users always willing to help out, no matter how trivial or simple the questions you have may seem.

For those curious if it really works, there is a three day trial available, and you will be shocked by how much you can learn in that period of time!

Where to begin? First: if you want to learn Welsh outside of Wales and without patient native speakers around you, you absolutely need to use SSiW. But even in Wales I'll bet that this beats by a country mile anything offered in the dosbarth line, which, like evening classes elsewhere, is painfully slow and has a well-earned drop out rate. If you use SSiW you will have to work hard. But you will understand why you are doing it and will feel the progress you are making. Of course you will still need to read and listen to Welsh in the wild. SSiW is as close as you can get to intensive lessons in Welsh.

The chance to listen and speak Welsh has given my language learning a tremendous boost, and greatly enhanced my confidence in speaking.

I NEVER thought I would be able to learn a language beyond just memorizing words. Being able to actually SPEAK a language was unimaginable. My brain just doesn't work that way. I was shocked when I found that I was able to comfortably speak an astounding amount of sentences and phrases in Welsh with enough comprehension to change them around as needed to carry on a conversation after just a couple months. Now that our family is beginning to learn German, I've realised what a gem Say Something in Welsh is. I've tried every German listening/speaking program I can find, and none of them even come close to Say Something in Welsh. They're just not sticking for me. I can't wait for Saysomethingin's German program to be released. They are doing so much good in the world to make fun and easy language learning accessible for so many people.

After building a basic foundation in Welsh studies elsewhere, I felt I was drifting into the learning doldrums, but coming across into SSiW made a substantial difference to my entire approach, not only in terms of learning, but also of motivation.
The evidence of such an active community, so comprehensively supported, provided just the catalyst I needed to keep at the studies and to want to expand both knowledge and experience. This really is 'Living Welsh'.

This is an amazing learning experience. Through their teaching method I learnt Welsh (to communicate with a Welsh lady in a nursing home in England suffering from dementia and losing her English) and from there I went on to learn Cornish and this year Spanish. Seriously, they are the best language teachers online.

It has a very user friendly, encouraging and confidence building approach, and builds skill intuitively.
Personally I found it worked far better than classes or any other online method I tried, and enabled me to achieve my goals.

This is a wonderully natural, intuitive way to learn a language, the tutors and staff on the forum are friendly and helpful, and I'm having a great time; it barely even feels like work!
Their free trial is REALLY free. As in, they haven't taken my payment details!!! It's not a trap, hoping some people forget to cancel, it's a no strings freebie. That is so refreshing!
When my free trial is up I will very definitely, very intentionally, be paying for a subscription!
I've been using the "challenges" audio files for about a month now, and I've got through challenge 15 of level 1. I can say and understand heaps, and each challenge builds on the last to increase not only the words I can say but the ways I can combine them with *everything* that's gone before, thanks to strategic repetition of earlier vocab and phrases in new contexts.
I'm driving my family nuts with how much I'm singing SSiW's praises so I thought I should do so here, too.

I have learned more Welsh in the short time I have been using the SSiW method than I did in all my school years! It has been a large regret I have not learned Welsh and this system has allowed me to do change that in my own pace! The subscription is super affordable and I have been able to have small conversations with my welsh speaking friends who are also shocked at how fast I have progressed.
As someone with ADHD I have been able to keep up with this everyday and be consistant! It doesnt matter if you do 5 mins or 5 hours with the MagicTutor.

A great tool to learn welsh. First of all, there aren't many resources in my country to learn it, so online is a great way to get to many people. The content is well designed, not too much, not too slow. With automagic you can even adjust how you want to learn, quite like the feature.
Also that you can switch between a North/South Welsh dialect is really nice.
I'd give easily 5 stars if the Android app was up to date, so I could listen to welsh e.g. in the supermarket, but can't even install it (apps Android version seems to be too old).

Say Something in Welsh is brilliant, far bettervthan any other on line language tool, its funny, clever and really motivating. I have been using it for almost two years now, both Spanish and Welsh.

Say Something in Welsh is a very effective resource for getting to grips with the language. You can choose to learn Northern or Southern Welsh (or you can mix and match and do both), and you can pace yourself. The format is supportive and encouraging. The audio lessons are supplemented by live chat sessions that you can opt into several times a week if you wish, and by a learners' forum where people help each other with queries and problems. Through the forum you can access special interest groups, meet-up groups (even if you're not in Wales) and language professionals. One of the greatest and earliest gains with this programme is acquiring the confidence to speak. Getting your tongue around a new language is rarely easy, but this will certainly help. You will find little Welsh phrases going around your head - and coming out of your mouth when you least expect it. Perhaps the greatest strength of this strong programme is the support. If you have a query, it will be dealt with within a few hours at most, in my experience. This programme will give you a good grounding for conversations in Welsh, and it is enjoyable too. Sometimes it will drive you crazy when you hear something that you think you can't possibly deal with, but that's the nature of the challenge; and you will get there if you just grit your teeth (not too much, or you won't be able to speak at all) and keep trying.

I’ve got flu, just gone through a family crisis and not had time to practice for a week. Now, ok this is the longest I’ve not practiced since I started (I’m on Level 2:18) but I’m just back from a dog walk, where I do most of my learning with the wonderful Aran & Catrin, only to find I am still responding in Cymraeg to things I didn’t know I even knew. That’s the key to this method: none of us remember learning to speak, we just absorbed language without even realising it and that’s why SaySomethingIn works. I cannot rate it highly enough and am so very glad I found it. I started with the mini course on Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau and then signed up to the full course. It’s nothing short of miraculous and I’m so excited to be moving back to Cymru next year finally with a knowledge of yr hen iaith. If you want to learn Cymraeg then please, please try this course; I did classes (in college as well as pubs!) and followed various courses online but only SaySomethingIn has made me confident that I’m becoming a Cymraeg speaker. What this company is doing for Cymru and her language is beyond comprehension, I do hope their program is used throughout all schools and colleges before to long. A huge thank you to Aran, Catrin and everyone at SaySomethingIn and to anyone reading this: go for it right now! You'll amaze yourself!

These people might be the most underrated language teachers on the planet. I've successfully learned Cornish with them - and was delighted to see they now offer Spanish. The experience of learning with them is even more painless this time, since they've jazzed up the interface a little. I've shocked a Spanish friend at choir practice, she thinks I'm a language learning genius. I can already read and understand well, and pick my way through conversations. That is after a week. Seriously, give them a go. I can't wait to see what they do next.

I've waited three months before giving my verdict on SSiW.
In the flush of the first months, I would have come up with a picture of golden sands, clear water and easy living, a honeymoon period for anyone wanting to learn this intriguing language, for language enthusiasts, for those people living in Wales (lucky them) who never dared to start.
The support beginners/learners get is astonishing: a set of videos, learning and motivational support I've never come across before.
Normally I'd not attempt to speak a language from Day 1, all my languages, apart from my mother tongue were learnt the hard way: achieving a grammar base and slogging through endless vocabulary lists. For me speaking was never on the cards, I only wanted to be able to read the respective literature.
Guess what, the SSiW approach has shaken it all up! I'm making mistakes, am not beating myself up about it and I'm talking to myself in Welsh. The honeymoon is continuing. I'm 78, started to learn Welsh from scratch, not a word of Welsh, except “heddlu”, a perfectionist afraid of making mistakes even in speaking to myself. Now I'm doing daily listening to the amazing “Automagic” which combines reading and writing.
I also from time to time follow the spoken-only courses, am now on Level 2. I no longer miss grammar explanations, because I can find those on the SSiW Forum. It provides hints, tips, support and is an incredible place for learners of all ages and levels. (I've also secretly gone and bought grammar books and beginners' novels.) Language heaven.
Any technical questions get speedily acknowledged and solved via the admin team. I've tested their patience! As to cost, for the determined learner, it's unquestionably worth every penny and more. Go and learn from the best. You'll never know, it could change your life. It has enriched mine.
