Unable to resolve your issues
If you don’t have a representative abroad you shouldn’t “Sell” your products for clients who reside outside Portugal. The fact they can’t resolve my issue even through superlinha, it’s appalling. As soon as I get a chance I will be closing down my account. The customer service is atrocious.
Santander is a very bad bank!!!
Santander is a bad bank because the management of this bank is not smart and is badly educated!!! They don’t understand the difference between nationality, citizenship and place of birth. They denied me to open the account in Santander bank because I was born in the city of Krasnoyarsk in 1954. Now this city belongs to Russia. At the time of my birth there was no country called Russia! I was born in USSSR! The country that now called Russia was born at the end of 1990 after the collapse of USSR! However, I left the city of my birth at the age of 8 in 1963! After that I lived for 33 years in Belarus before leaving to the USA IN 1996 where I lived for 26 years. I have zero relation to Russia at all! I am a citizen of the USA and I never had a citizenship of Russian Federation that people called just Russia! However, the management of Santander bank didn’t open account for me because they think that I am a Russian and citizen of modern days Russian Federation! They think that if the person was born on the territory that now is Russia - that person is Russian and the citizen of modern Russian Federation! I think the management of the Santander bank is just stupid and badly educated! They don’t understand that place of birth say nothing about the person’s ethnicity nor about person’s citizenship! They don’t understand that person who was born on some territory could be any ethnicity and any citizenship like be Chinese by ethnicity and French by citizenship!!!
If at least something went well in this "bloody" bank ...
It would be better to ask if at least something went well.
A complete lack of professionalism, both online and in an office.
This bank is guaranteed to lead you to nothing but loss of your money anyway.
When opening an account, the bank managers take advantage of the client's trust and don't pronounce all the details, failing to mention the main regular deductions. As a result, the client, trusting the bank without checking the deductions from their account, finds that the account has been "thinned out" in some amount.
Online services don't work; the client is invited to a bank branch, then invited again and again, not even given the opportunity to quickly close the account and withdraw the remaining balance so they can forget about this "bloody" bank forever.
I went to the bank to send a wire…
I went to the bank to send a wire transfer to another country. Their system was not working. They told me to do it on the app. I do not have this option activated so it's impossible. I am paying 7.70€ a month in maintenance fees but I don't get anything in return. Every time I go to a branch there is a problem. They don't offer internet either in most branches. I asked for a credit card once and the teller told me I would get it approved within a week. It never happened. One year later, out of the blue, I received a call from an employee telling me that I was approved for the credit card. I told him 'thanks but no thanks '. What's the point anyway to pay 70€ a year for s bad service and useless credit card. I will close the account as soon as I leave the country. Apparently, nothing is working in Portugal except for or the payment of your taxes and you can only do your declaration online, no other way. Good luck trying to understand the system. You get 0 help ! Even when you pay, you get a lazy service in exchange. They love to take the short cuts in Portugal.
Unfortunately I was a victim of fraud
Unfortunately I was a victim of fraud. I used MB Way. Lost 4900 euros. Santander says basically not their fault. But I know of many folks being easily scammed same way using the MB Way App. Bank does nothing in fact 5 days later then charged another 38 euros for international bank transfer!!! I notified it was fraud and they continue to process the payment. So - don’t use MB Way and don’t bank with Santander.
Write a Email get a Copy Paste answer…

Super rude
Super rude, the worst bank I've had to deal with. I do not recommend. At first they are all friendly, but as soon as you become a client you are treated as a piece of garbage. They don't make things easier, quite the opposite, and push you to the limit.
Horrebel bank horrebel costumer…
Horrebel bank horrebel costumer services tell you they offer you money to open account with them and then they find an excuse for not doing so and even rude if you call them about, so fees charge for all even charge to use card per year and charge 15 euros if your lost your card and monthly fee charges and even for a sample tranfer they charge they have hiden charges and they wont to some how they do have accees to every little information about you and your finances situation with no conscents.
Inefficient service in Pico Azores
I have had to wait an hour on two separate occasions in order to withdrawal an amount higher than the ATM would allow.
There is no cashier for withdrawal or deposit and if you ask for withdrawal assistance, you would ll be charged 6,00 euros. So I have an adversion to a bank that uses my money to collect interest for them and charges me a fee that Ava’s my funds.
I will seek a new bank.
Really rude costumer service!
Really rude costumer service!! They let you wait 20 minutes and hang up. I called again with a question. The answer I got I didn't understand the first time and asked to repeat the guy says ' I already explained this 5 times, why you want me to explain it again'? I told him he could be a bit more patient with his costumers and he kept on being very very rude and impatient. When I asked for a supervisor he hang up on me.
Waste of time
Really polite staff, just not good enough to really solve a problem
Wast of time and days going back and forward to try to open an account
To get to the end and it’s not possible
Terrible bank,staff don't reply to…
Terrible bank, staff don't reply to urgent matters, with deadlines. The Loule branch are completely useless, asking for documents, when sent 3 months ago.
This bank are so useless
This bank are so useless. So technical issues this morning with no SMS or e-mails being sent by the banking App. Santander help desk are useless and hang up then when I do get through they transfer me to Superlinas or something, who then hang up. After 3 hours of trying to get hold of support they finally answer to say there are technical problems with SMS!!! Why don't you tell your own staff, put out an answer phone message or even a message on your website or mobile banking App. A primative bank with very poor IT. Go to another bank....
I have been calling for 45 day sending…
I have been calling for 45 day sending mails, to Coimbra branch "Teresa" is never at the branch. I still can't get my internet banking set up. This is so unprofessional. They just give you the runaround. There is no customer care service! The help line in English are very rude and just don't make any effort to help, just tell you to call your branch!
Regards
Grace
This is the worst bank I have ever…
This is the worst bank I have ever used, I have lived in many countries, and held bank accounts in most, but Santander PT are by far the worst, following COVID, i was made unemployed, I informed the bank and requested any assistance that may be available for this situation, I was fortunate to have savings, but I also have a mortgage. their response was to immediately, and without notice, use my saving to clear my credit card, and their offer of help was so bad, even the lady at the branch advised me not to sign it. I was a Banif customer, it seems now that my Mortgage is at one branch, and my account is at another, and neither talk to each other, I am trying to update my personal details as they have frozen functions on the App, but none of the branches wish to help, I cannot wait to move to another bank, actively seeking better banking options.
Unsuccessful bank account opening
We, a Portuguese and EU citizen, dedicated nearly three hours of our time at the branch with the intention of opening a bank account. Despite signing numerous documents, we left the branch empty-handed, only being assured that we would be informed about the status of our account opening. Unfortunately, our request was unexpectedly unsuccessful, and the representative was unable to provide any confirmation or specify a reason for the setback. Moreover, we were informed that it could take up to a month to receive any updates, during which the representative would be unavailable for at least two weeks. The lack of information regarding the cause of the delay and a reasonable timeframe for resolution led us to make the decision to withdraw our request and seek services elsewhere.
The deposit function on the automatic…
The deposit function on the automatic teller almost never works. Especially over weekends and holidays. The teller behind the counter is very slow and one spends unnecessary time in the bank.
Has to be the worst bank on earth
Has to be the worst bank on earth! I say that having lived in Asia and middle east. Truely backward in everything. App never works, branches speak minimal English. Took 6 weeks to open an account. Sent the card to the wrong address. Bombard me with spam in Portuguese. This bank is not for foriegners.
Ridiculous and utter rubbish service
Phoned the Bank wanting to change my Direct Debit amount as my storage price has gone up by 4 Euros. A simple request in this day and computer age, I would have thought. Told it was not permissible. Was told I had to go to a counter service in Portugal to amend the amount. I said I can't do that because I'm currently in the UK and can't you amend it as you have all the details in front of your computer screen. I was told that I could do it on Home Personal Internet Banking. I stated the whole point of using a Bank in my view is to have an Assistant to do it for you. Don't like being bullied into doing Internet Banking. The patronising woman said she could cancel the Direct Debit over the phone. I said that was no help. Then she was only interested in her own feedback survey nonsense.
The Banif Bank I used before unfortunately was taken over and swallowed up by Santander. They don't exist anymore. Banif use to have a branch in London, that I could use for these situations. The UK Santander branches don't have anything to do with Santander Portugal I was told, as they are a separate entity despite sharing the same name. So they couldn't help either. Found the whole simple request frustrating, an archaic system and tiresome. Unfortunately the Banking system in Portugal is all pretty much the same with other Banks full of self importance and poor service.
The worst services ever!
I am trying for months to reach someone. I called them, they couldn't helped me, I sent them emails and several reminders, no one replies. Today I called them again, asking to speak with someone in English, they redirect me to someone else, I was put on hold, then during the call I was redirected again somewhere else where the lady was screaming at me that she doesn't speak English and she cannot attend me. She took my number and she said someone else will call me during the day. No one called. Not mentioning the high maintenance fee. Worst mistake to become a Santander client.
