Bad experience with Sail in Greece
Having recently returned from a sailing holiday on the Harmonia with Sail with Greece, unfortunately, due to a combination of bad weather, bad communication and organising from the company and a very unfriendly captain, the trip turned out to be a bit of a disaster.
On the afternoon of Saturday 12th September 2026, we were informed by their Customer Support team that we would be unable to sail as planned on the morning of Sunday 13th Sept due to adverse weather conditions.
As you can imagine we were disappointed to hear this news but continued to board the boat on the Saturday as instructed.
We were told by the captain at this point that in fact it would probably be Tuesday or Wednesday before we would sail as the weather conditions at sea were not good for several days.
At this point, we were asked by the captain to hand over the 300 euros port fees.
We also paid extra monies when booking our holiday for a standard plus cabin which we were told were the bigger cabins on the boat. This was not true as in fact we had one of the smallest cabins (Cabin 3).
If the captain knew we were not going anywhere until the Tuesday/Wednesday, why did the company still put us on the boat? We would have been better off kept in a hotel as the boat was moored next to an area that had a lot of building work going on, which was noisy, dusty, and not great to look at!
The captain of the boat had absolutely no people skills! He was abrupt, grumpy and had very little interaction with us for the entire holiday. He didn’t join us for the Captain’s dinner except for a photo and did not even come on deck to say goodbye as we left the boat on the Saturday morning.
The rest of the crew were very friendly, especially Farris.
Why did we still have to pay 300 euros port fees when we only had a 3 day cruise. The captain couldn’t collect these quick enough!
The swim stops on the 3 day cruise were terrible. We were too far away from shore, the sea was choppy, the stairs leading into the water were not suitable for most of the guests onboard, and the snorkelling equipment provided had not been cleaned in weeks!
All in all, the entire experience was very disappointing and although there is absolutely nothing that can be done in regard to the weather conditions, I feel that the company should have pre-empted and had a contingency plan for such occurrences. Communication and lack of organisation from the company was evident.
