KOD Soho / What a horrible experience
KOD Soho. FRI 13 FEB 2026. What a horrible experience
On our trips to London, we love to go to a high-end steak house restaurant and that is why we booked a night at KoD. Other venues provide a wonderful ambiance, atmosphere, food, and service. This dinner fell way short on all levels.
First of all, on entering the restaurant looks like a Mexican restaurant was bought and they decided that providing some tables and chairs, a few fake palm plants would fit the bill.
What was provided was no atmosphere, on entering you enter a space with kind of circular desk and a fake palm. Oh yes, and on the counter of the desk was a raving air freshener misting machine. That should have been the clue. If any restaurant wants to mask the smell of the restaurant that should itself tell you something is wrong.
The steaks, while large, were not hot and poorly charred. Both were rare when we asked for 1 rare and 1 medium rare. They were the same. A really poor limited selection of not just sides but other mains. Most top steak houses offer some kind of fish, etc offering. Poor selection of sides. I tried some kind of corn thing. Pointless.
As for wine, maybe 3 offers of a red wine by the glass. Mine was like grape juice.
Service? Forget it. Not ONCE did anyone stop and ask how our food was.
Then my wife needed to use the toilet. She shared a photo, and when I saw it, it looked like a toilet from a poorly maintained west end pub. When my wife returned, she was unable to finish here food as she wondered, and rightfully so, that if this is the cleanliness of the toilet, what about our food. I asked for the manager, showed him the photo and his reply? ‘I don’t go into the women’s toilet’. Seriously.
And after all this, they managed to mess up my bill and had to chase me down and claim they made a mistake and need to charge me more. Nothing from the manager. No sorry for the mistake, let us take something off your bill. Nothing.
We will be going back to Hawksmoor in future.
