Incompetence and dishonesty

One star is far too high a rating for this company. My experience with them has been extremely unpleasant. The sales guy (Sujan) made many false statements during the sales process that ultimately proved to be lies. For example, I was told that they employed all their installers on salary to quickly deal with any issues. Absolutely everyone that was involved in my renovation were subcontractors – some incompetent, others far too busy working on other things to care about good workmanship on my project. The ceramic floor guy was the only real professional and he was sub-contracted by one of the sub-contractor.

I had to contact the company to remove the electrician from my home. He did a number of things contrary to the electrical code for Ontario. Electrical boxes wern't bonded, wire connectors fell off, sparks flew from a light switch when my wife turned on the kitchen lights, and wires were hidden behind drywall without protective plates. When I insisted that a new electrician must come to inspect the first guy's work, he corrected 15 deficiencies to the electrical code.

Cabinet installers were polite and friendly when they put in all of the cabinets and moulding, but had to come back because they had installed moulding where granite was to be located. Sujan has made incorrect measurements and the planned cabinets were too big along one wall. I ended up having a cupboard installed instead of pot drawers because the correct prefabricated drawers weren't available. I was surprised, since Sujan assured me, during the sales process, that everything was custom made for each installation. When they came back to remove the moulding, they were rude and accused me of changing my mind. I had already tried to tell them that what they were installing was going to cause a problem later. They refused to listen to me (taking direction only from Sujan (the sales guy). Anyway, they started to remove all kinds of things that were no where near the problem area. When they refused to stop demolishing good work, I ejected them from my home. They were rude, insulting, and used obscene language as they left.

Their gas technician left us without hot water for more than 24 hours after moving the stove connections because he forgot to relight the water heater's pilot light.

Next was the installation of the granite counter-tops. As they were being installed, I had them stop because the front edge was cut to a very different profile than we had requested (and documented in the contract). Since the counter-tops were already 75% installed, I was offered a discount if I would accept the incorrect one. Since our renovation was scheduled for completion well before the Christmas holidays, and this would have left me with an unusable kitchen for the holidays, I reluctantly agreed.

After a couple of months, the cabinets had sagged slightly on the wall and the crown moulding had cracked away from the ceiling. Since Sujan assured us that any issues would be corrected quickly, I reported the matter, along with pictures to Sujan. Here we are three months later and no one has come to re-caulk the crack. Apparently, the only person who can do the caulking is the installer that I refused to allow in my home. I even suggested that he could just get me two tubes of the same caulking and I would get it done myself. He agreed, but that was over three weeks ago.

If you enjoy being treated like you don't exist in your home, this is the company for you. If you like random changes imposed on you due to poor workmanship, poor scheduling, poor measuring, and unresponsive sub-contractors, this is the company for you. If you enjoy the excitement of sparkling electrical equipment and potential fires, this is the company for you. If you like waiting for a response to eventually come (or never come), this is the company for you.

If not, run – don't walk – to the nearest exit and keep going.
