Serious Concerns About Misleading Practices, Unauthorized Changes, and Customer Treatment
I am an independent songwriter and music producer who paid RadioPlugger.com for a four-week Priority radio promotion campaign for my album While We Sleep, marketed under my professional artist identity, Michael Rowan.
Based on my documented experience, I strongly caution other independent musicians against using this service.
1. Intentional Confusion with RadioPluggers.com
Prospective customers should be aware that RadioPlugger.com (singular) and RadioPluggers.com (plural) are completely separate businesses.
RadioPlugger.com is an Australian business based in Rose Bay, a suburb of Sydney, and appears to be trying to convince the world that it is a US-based company by presenting a New York mailing address.
RadioPluggers.com is a well-established UK radio-promotion company that identifies itself as "The Original Radio Pluggers."
The similarity in names could easily confuse musicians researching radio promotion services. I believe it is highly likely that this similarity is intentional, and I encourage prospective customers to carefully verify which company they are dealing with before paying.
2. Unauthorized Modification and Concealment of Approved Promotional Materials
Radio Plugger initially approved my recordings and artist biography without requesting changes. My original biography already disclosed the use of generative music technology in the production process.
After the campaign concluded, Radio Plugger admitted in writing that it had changed my biography without my knowledge. Its exact words were:
"The bio was changed by us. You don't see that."
The company subsequently invoked an AI-first disclosure requirement that was not communicated to me when I purchased the service. I would not have purchased the promotion under that condition because I believe leading with an AI disclosure could prejudice radio programmers before they even listen to the music.
I was never asked to approve the revised biography, never provided with a copy, and never told which radio stations received it.
I consider this an extremely serious breach of customer trust and a clear violation of the company's own Terms of Service and stated business practices.
3. Questionable Value and Lack of Independently Verifiable Results
Radio Plugger claims to provide promotional access to thousands of radio stations internationally. Despite paying for Priority promotion, I obtained no independently verifiable evidence of actual airplay from this campaign. The response was laughably trivial: a total of just six stations showed any activity involving my music, with no verified airplay whatsoever.
I recognize that radio promotion cannot guarantee airplay. My concern is whether the service provides meaningful, transparent value commensurate with its marketing claims and pricing.
The company's refusal to disclose any meaningful information about the types, countries, or numbers of stations it serves—including whether it even markets to Sirius satellite radio stations—makes independent verification impossible.
4. Hostile Response to a Legitimate Refund Request
When I requested a refund because my approved promotional materials had been altered without authorization and, by the company's own admission, intentionally concealed from me, the response included personal insults and a threat to pursue debt collection and damage my credit rating if I disputed the charge.
5. Account Access Subsequently Revoked
After receiving the insulting and threatening email, I discovered that Radio Plugger had banned my account. The login page explicitly stated that I had been banned from the application.
Fortunately, I had already downloaded my campaign records. Nevertheless, denying customers access to their accounts and promotional histories during a dispute raises additional concerns about transparency and accountability.
6. Formal Consumer Complaints and Payment Dispute
I have filed complaints concerning Radio Plugger's conduct with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and NSW Fair Trading. I have also opened a formal credit-card dispute.
Those matters remain unresolved.
In my opinion, the combination of unauthorized modifications, concealment, questionable promotional value, hostile correspondence, and subsequent account termination makes this a service independent musicians should approach with extreme caution.
I would not recommend RadioPlugger.com and would never use its services again.
